danhtuhoc's Theory: Hats Produce Losses

Okay, danhtuhoc's, constant spamming the various threads has prompted me to create a topic just for him/her. Most of you have seen the claim:

danhtuhoc said:
I think _________ lost because he wore a hat. No matter how you analyse his game, if he wears a hat, then he will lose :-D

My first thought on reading this post -- each of the dozen times I've seen it -- is either, "Yeah, but _____ didn't lose until the Quarters. How did _____ get that far?" (or) "Hey! Wait a minute. ______'s opponent was ALSO wearing a hat."

What do you other TT-ers think when you see danhtuhoc's posts of this type? (danhtuhoc also thinks the girls who wear jewelry will lose....)

Hat's produce Losses? Ok, well girls are more consistent then guys because they don't eat as much. A kid I know said this after we had a game to see who could hit the most shots consistently in and this girl won it so he said that. He's quite weird tho keep that in mind.

I was wearing a hat yesterday, my opponent was not yet I won. Guess it only applies to the pros?

No, it applies to me too (I am not a pro, btw...). I've lost several times recently while wearing a hat. The style gods may be angry at me.

You know you think it's still funny, malakas. Don't deny it. ;)

Angry? No, I think this is their normal behaviour... they just dislike you, period.

Yeah, how does he explain Justine Henin being the world's number one female tennis player ? Justine Henin would wear a hat all the time.

I never get tired of the joke. And I find myself now actually thinking about this silly theory when I watch matches... But as a frequent hat wearer myself, I'm hoping this one only applies to the pros.

That's rubbish. If the sun is at high noon I'm wearing a hat! I can't even serve without it, much less win a match!

How boring would it be if the board were full of intellectuals! We need morons and spammers to break up the monotony of thoughtful posts. ;)

Tell that theory to Jim Courier.

What's his lifetime head to head vs. the hatless Sampras?

I´m sorry what was the topic of this thread? Courier vs Sampras h2h or some theory on wearing a hat not leading to success in tennis? Because that theory is nonsense. Now if you want to discuss Courier vs Sampras start a thread on it. To answer your question it was 4-16. What was the hatless wonder Sampras´ record against the another hat slam winner Lleyton Hewitt? Since we´re on that. Now going back to the topic at hand, Courier still won 4 grand slams and finished number one with a hat. So that theory goes into the trash can.

Some may speculate that Courier's hat that season was just a PJ, maybe a hairpiece PJed to look like a hat.
Hatless theory lives!

Courier + hat = 4 grand slams

Sampras + no hat = 14 grand slams

Need I say more?

I don't agree that hats will produce losses because it works for some players, especially when serving in the sun. But I just can't help noticing all the sweat dripping from Roddick's hat and the way the front of his cap, blocks part of his peripheral vision. If Roddick were to wear his cap backwards, or wear a bandana like Federer/Nadal, his vision when looking up at a high lob would be better, instead of seeing part of his cap, the ball, the sky / stadium roof in the background. Without a cap, Roddick would also be able to see players like Federer sneaking into the net or faking some movements because his cap will block partially these kind of crucial observations that will improve his anticipation level and also execute shots better by knowing absolutely sure where the opponent is. Roddick wears his cap really close to his eye level. Before he hits the ball, he looks all the way down, his cap is pointing all the way down. Then after he hits the ball, he needs to adjust his vision for a split second and look up at a higher viewing plane than "hatless" players normally do because of the obscure view that his cap is hindering him. All this adjustment in sight and the split seconds wasted to do it are likely reasons why his anticipation for the next ball is pretty slow. Playing with a cap when there is no sun or a need to is like blocking the 2 side windows of your car with shades and putting a 6 inch sun-blocking strip on your front windscreen. There are many factors why a player loses, but a player like Roddick should consider getting rid of his cap if he wants to see the flight of the ball when he is volleying. How many hall-of-famers who served and volleyed wore a cap? The action is fast and furious at the net, so you need all 100% unblocked view to execute reflex volleys and lunging volleys.

The theory was that people with hats don't win at all. That's incorrect. Now Sampras won 14 slams because of his game. Courier would've won 10 slams without a hat? Need I say more?

Yes, absolutely.

I can't believe this thread is still alive. It's already been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that hats produce losses, but some people just don't want to face facts, I guess. (Maybe they work in the hat industry and feel threatened by the truth? I don't know.)
