why would they want to discourage the future of tennis from being his best self? makes zero sense.

Daniil Medvedev has been fined $9,000 (£7,400) for his antics during a straight sets win over Feliciano Lopez, in which he aimed a middle finger at fans, snatched a towel from a ball person and taunted the US Open crowd. Tournament organisers slapped the world No. 5 with a $5,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct and a further $4,000 for a visible obscenity, taking his total fines for this event up to $19,000 (£15,600).

The 23-year-old has been fined in each of his three matches at the final Grand Slam of the season, with previous offences for verbal abuse and racquet abuse. Umpire Damian Dumusois was unable to hand the Russian a code violation for his not-so-subtle swearing because he didn’t see it live, but he has been retrospectively fined after it was picked up by cameras in the stadium.

Grandslams have a very good audience. But what about the bread and butter events like 250 and 500s ? Grand slams have a tradition and it's a one time event.

Like I said in the deleted thread Med is more likeable because he's more like a true villlain who doesn't give a f* about what others think, unlike Djokovic who tries too hard to be liked or Kyrgios who despite his misbehaviour is really trying to impress by building this talented bad boy image.

Roger and Rafa earns respect the same way. They just go about their business and aren't insecure even given their occasional outbursts.

That. I agree with you and if ATP events adopts best of 5 final for any Masters 1,000 event, it will go a long way to bring back respectability. I feel that best of 3 has ruined this sport throughout the year. People dig best of 5 on Grand Slams and is where you see a good mixture of young and old alike onsite.

They're ageing well!

There is no one young there, except one indian. Which reminds me the future of the continent. Totally different people will live there after time.

R U Saying younger people like douch3b@gs?
Young people are impressionable and they love controversial types. That's why Tyson and McGregor were/are popular. They were entertaining but also real whackos who got themselves in trouble often. It's why people like Kyrgios and want to see him screw up. It's entertainment.

He is timidly attempting to be Kyrgios, but it’s not in him.

Wow. A whole $9,000. Let's take up a collection for Medvedev.

Should have been fined $40,000.

Tennis has a serious problem of attracting younger audiences. That's a fact. And it's been said by tennis professionals and players themselves. The sport isn't attracting young audiences anywhere close to the level of other major sports.

“Tennis” may which has nothing to do with the USO attendance. There have been so many young kids this year I’d say the average age of the crowd is about 9. It’s been like attending camp.

No-one young there? I suggest you look a bit closer unless your idea of youth is someone still in nappies! :p

I barely noticed you, so anything assuming that I "know" you is a bit of a fantasy.

Do you know how I know that you are trying to BS around? It is because you opinion about what is on that picture doesn't match the reality.

Yes, but... it's your reality...

That reality isn't held in very high esteem here at all.

I see. If many posters tell you that you are wrong, you retreat to "most around here are delusional", so do tell, who is the beacon of "reality" for you? Please, let not the answer be "myself".

Is there any way you can actually substantiate your assessment of the spectators in that picture?

I knew you'd overreact... again.

I just don't understand why.

For me young is until 25. I don't see anyone in that age. Unless they look older than their age?

EDIT: I saw one guy with long hair in the top who looks around this age.

money well spent. x100 in future appearance fees.

his “antics” are great, different than kyrgios whose outbursts mostly center around the theme of persecution or unfair treatment...medvedev, there is a comedic goal there obviously, a true troll. right on.
