Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi! [we probably won't win a match] Aussie! [let's hope djoko gets injured] Oi! [and lleyton hits some form] Aussie! Oi!

Aussies don't want to play anybody on that dirt trash surface called clay, and they are winers

5 hours and 7 minutes... it's what it took to sela for beating massu in the 1st rubber of the israël-chile tie !
... in (only) 4 sets : 63 64 67 64 (on outdoor hard court).

i think it must be close to be the longest 4 sets match...
i'm thinking on several long 4-setters (wilander-vilas at RG 1982, mathieu-nadal at RG 2006, djokovic-hewitt at wimbledon 2007) but they don't reach the 5 hours.

any clue on the record for a 4 sets match ?... ;)
This could only happen cause it was played in Israel. maybe Massu was scared of all the gun fire that was going on.
... but if he was so scared, he would not have fought and would have lost rapidly in 3 little sets ! ;)
(...and would have broken the record for the shortest match, on the contrary)

OMG!!! chile is near leaving world group losing to ISRAEL??!!!

chile should win both

Hewitt came back from two sets to one down to beat Tipsy in five ;), doubles will be pivotal as Luczak has no chance of winning a live rubber against Janko.

Also Peru has a chance to go up 2-0 on Belarus after Ivan Miranda upset Mirnyi.

Never heard of Okum. But Sela played Safin at this years AO and he's got some game.

GO BREWS! GO BREWS!
that should be fckng hillarious!! Israel joins the world class of tennis playing nations and eliminates the olympic gold winning nation.
Is something wrong with the chileans? injury or something? how can it be posible that those 2 completely unknown players are beating top ten player gonzales and former competent player massu??
damm, I love tennis!!

Some doubles results to get into world group next year.

Henman/J. Murray win in 4 clinching the tie in Henman's last official match.

Berdych/Stepanek come back from two sets to love and a few match points to beat Federer/Allegro in 5.

Aussies were up a set and a break on Serbia but now are down two sets to one and a break in the fourth :(.

Aussies go down meekly in four sets, looks like world group with only Hewitt on your team is too much to ask for.

Romania - Japan. Go Horia!

Well, the Japanese have just secured a 2-1 lead going into Sunday. I'm rooting for Pavel over the always entertaining Suzuki (ad ct). Could be another thrilling Davis Cup Sunday.

I must say the most interesting and unusual thing about this entire weekend is.....well here's a photo:

DC_8196_gallery.JPG

Look, this is rare. A young, bald Japanese man...who also happens to be left-handed. What are the odds of that?

Incidentally, his name is Satoshi Iwabuchi,
He rockin' threads by Fiorucci,
rolls of Yen in his Gucci,
once dated the soap star Susan Lucci,
and idolizes SNL legend, John Belushi (Samurai Delicatessen sketch, circa 1976).

Allez Japan! Suzuki is very fun to watch. I remember a couple of years ago, his match against Federer.

Would have loved to watch Tim's last match. Not a chance here in the colonies. Congrats. He goes out a winner!

Congrats, Henman! Well done. Had the reigning Wimbledon Mixed Champ next to him, too boot.

So funny that Jamie Murray has 'a (ahem) Wimbledon title' and Timmy does not.

Well, best of luck, Tim, in retirement. Good fella. Excellent career. Overall mensch. Tennis will always admire you. Probably going to do just fine in business, coaching or broadcasting.
But, Tim, now that you're not doing much, would please get off your arse and get me a COKE?! Well, make it a Robinson's Barley Water, thanks, cheers.

WOW, look what is happening with Swiss and Czech republic. Federer went down in 5 sets in doubles and is now in real danger of losing the tie. Fed will beat berdy but Stepanek will probably take out Warinka tomorrow. I would do anything to be able to watch this match.

Warinka looks like he is going to lose to Stepanek. Down 2 sets to love. So would the Czech Republic win 3-2? Or will they continue play? Never payed attention to Davis Cup before.

Traitor Federer let Swiss go into the relagation match by not playing early in the year and now they are going down to minor leagues, that is SAD. and Good for Korea for qualifying for the world group.

I do have a question about that, or a feeling, not quite sure. But it was so anti-Maria in Russia Fed Cup that she was even allowed to be there in the finals match even though she wouldn't be playing, but Fed (and yes I KNOW he is no.1 and playing well, and anybody would welcome him back later even if he seemed not to give a pip about it earlier in the year)...can't ask him personally, but I wonder does it cross his mind to think 'hey could have been here earlier in the year, then could have felt more that I'd been a part of it and made a difference of a sort', or maybe that's just the difference between female and male teams of this sort. No reports of guys on the team making spiteful comments that he suddenly appeared even if in a losing effort.

^^^Someone said earlier that Swiss does not give a you know what about Davis cup. and Fed cares more about his own record than davis cup play. and now i hear Stepanek is doing the WORM on the courts and may have permanatly hurt his back doing it and is going to pull out of Bangkock and will have to Retire...

WOW, czeck out the outfit that Stepanek was wearing. it is amazing. No wonder Warinka lost, after seeing that he didn't have a chance

Federer should not play Davis Cup, his team will never win the event until they have another good player. Wawrinka has a nice, powerful backhand, but that it is it. He only won one set in his two matches, he obviosly lacks the ability to compete with top tier players.

Roger is not enough for them. There's depth but not enough to pull them through consistently.

I agree. Allegro was choking in the 4th and 5th set of the doubles, after they had match point in the 3rd set tiebreak.
Wawrinka was choking BIG TIME in the 3rd set against Stepanek. Stepanek was injured, Stan had him in the ropes, but Step somehow made it to the tiebreak and finally won the match. It was really sad to watch.
Wawrinka was far from hist best this weekend.

Wawrinka has lot's of talent but it's there for the big stages. Stepanek is a solid player and if a player chokes Stepanek can take advantage of that, he's a smart player.
