A 17 time slam winner with a QF or better record since 2004, nearly beaten the consecutive slam appearances + numerous records to boot. He'll play Halle and he's one of the favorites for Wimbledon at getting on 32 so in theory there is zero to be depressed about.

I'm saddened more by the way he lost than the loss in general. Hid play was sloppy and uninspired. He just seemed like he didn't want to be out there after giving the break back to Jo in the first set. I'm happy it was to a player I like and not some unknown.
A loss at Roland Garros hurts, but Wimbledon isn't that far away. Hopefully Roger raises his level for the grass season.

As a Fed fan, I was worried about this match when the draw came out. Fed was over-powered and out-hustled today. Credit to Tsonga for really playing confidently, and tactfully, and with his heart out on the court.
Seeing Fed miss 2 routine overheads was depressing. And seeing him get pegged by a ball was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Atleast his streak of Quarters is still alive!

Yeh, that was a pretty amazing year for us as fans. He had a stretch of dominance which culminated in another major... I'm STILL amazed that he managed to regain the no.1 position for some time. All in all, it was a great year.

Ok, I used to be a bigger Fed fan a few years ago, but when Nadal emerged I changed my tune a bit. Now I'm more of a Nadal fan than a Fed fan. But I respect them both. And Djokovic too. I like all 3 really. I don't like Murray.

Fed clearly tanked that match against Tsonga. It was obvious he didn't fancy getting creamed by Rafa in yet another clay final so soon after the Rome beatdown and this would definitely have been the case if he had decided to beat Jo-Willy. He would then have only had to face either Ferrer or Robredo in the semis and since both of them are his total and complete pigeons (H2Hs V Ferrer, 14-0, v Robredo 10-0) passage to the final would have been virtually guaranteed!
Roger is smart and plays the long game. He did just enough at RG to keep his unbroken Slam quarter-final record going and then pulled the plug. He will now be re-focussing his energies on his true goal, to retain his Wimbledon title on his favourite surface!
So cheer up depressed Fed fans. The Eagle will soar once again over the green lawns of his true home, the place where he is almost as dominant as Rafa is at RG!

Both Roger and Murray are in incredibly good positions to win Wimbledon this year, one tanked in preparation for it and the other feigned injury in order to practice sooner on the surface. The truth is, they are in the form and physical conditions of their lives, so expect a rematch between Fed and Murray in another Wimbledon final.

It was pretty amazing to be a Federer fan last year. After he lost the No. 1 ranking in 2010, I was pretty sure he'd never break Sampras' record. Seeing Nadal and Djokovic enjoy their 2010 and 2011 almost solidified it. I always believed he had another slam or two in him, but getting the top ranking back was something I had thought was out of reach.
Here's to hoping that he can rekindle that magic for the next month and defend his Wimbledon title!

I guess because with every defeat we fear that the end is near for him. If the defeats come earlier and earlier, one of them may actually send him into retirement. We don't want to see this man go!

Really, I am not bothered about H2H or troll threads here. I just want to see him play. You know, just to see him play a great shot in a match, and takes up back to those glory days. Even if he loses that match, I can live with that sweet moment. That short moment of glory, transient moment but everlasting forever.
I just love Roger a lot. It's really depressing to see him lose. Its really painful. The reason it hurts this much is because this victory would have made him play his 25th major final. Six finals at RG would have been really great. It would added to his resume a lot. I don't know why people don't see this. Such a great opportunity missed

A loss for Fed is a loss for tennis. Once Fed retires, half of fans will probably tune out. I can't imagine the sport being half as interesting without him and he's become a lot less relevant this year and so has the sport.
More than anything I think that people are depressed about the future of tennis.
