@Doctor/Lawyer Red Devil: Thanks for postings those stats, I was wondering how many tournaments he'd won after saving match points. :) Out of interest, do you know when the last time was that he lost a match after having match point? I was really starting to think along those lines after the 2nd set today.

Novak Djokovic for Blicsport: "I can't wait to see Federer and Nadal in Melbourne"

It was really a privilege watching Nole live last week. The Serbian left Qatar with the Golden Falcon, while he gave Blicsport the analysis of his work in the first working weak of 2017.

Novak Djokovic lost two sets in the first week of the new season, against Fernando Verdasco in the semifinal and Andy Murray in the final. Apart from those two minor slumps, everything else was totally working for the world number 2.

"Generally I am extremely satisfied with my game. Apart from the first set of the first match and the first part of the match against Fernando Verdasco, which weren't at a satisfactory tennis level, everything else was ok. I played at a high level, now I must confirm that continuity in Melbourne", said Djokovic for Blicsport.

lLvktkqTURBXy8zNDA0NDQxNWY1Y2ZhYTI3MWYxOTJlNjQ1YThjMTZkOS5qcGVnk5UCzQMUAMLDlQLNAdYAwsOVB9kyL3B1bHNjbXMvTURBXy8xZDc0Y2I0MTcwNTk1MDQzNjYyOWNhYmQ2MDZmNTBmNi5wbmcHwgA

It was especially tense when he saved five match points against Verdasco in the semifinal.

"Back then I was hitting the ball and thinking: "If I have to lose, then let's lose with honor!" Then I first won one point, then second, then third and so on. You find yourself at the brink of defeat, and then you just think how to pull through. When we pull through, then we gain extra self-confidence and assertiveness"

Novak underlined that the tournament in Doha was physically exhausting for him.

"I will need a bit of time to recover, but it's totally enough time to recover before the upcoming challenges in Melbourne. I am looking forward to them"

Smiling Djokovic went on a trip to Melbourne immediately after the Doha final. There he has seven days of preparation for the first Grand Slam of the season. Novak is aiming for the seventh trophy at the Aussie Open.

"Australian Open is one of my favorite tournaments and undoubtedly my most successful Grand Slam. When I come there and enter the court to train, I feel that I belong to that tournament. Winning six titles there and starting this year with a win Doha gives me more self-confidence as I approach new challenges"

7XXktkqTURBXy8zNzhjN2NkZjcxNmM0YmZiNjIyYjNkZTkxMzBjZDk3NC5qcGVnk5UCzQMUAMLDlQLNAdYAwsOVB9kyL3B1bHNjbXMvTURBXy8xZDc0Y2I0MTcwNTk1MDQzNjYyOWNhYmQ2MDZmNTBmNi5wbmcHwgA

As for Melbourne...

"Andy Murray and me are certainly the favorites because of everything we have done recently. But Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are coming, and I can't wait to see them and play tennis together. Plus there is always tough Wawrinka, as well as Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori, who are in good form. Murray and me are the biggest favorites on paper, but those are all just predictions. On the court, numbers and statistics don't play. We will all be at the highest level, and we will see who is going to win"

Djokovic already noted how much Andy Murray and him are alike. He found an excellent comparison, and said that playing against the Scot is the same as playing against himself in the mirror.

"All dices had to assemble for me to beat Murray. Nerves play a big role, quality, matches are physically and mentally very exhausting. The mental crisis that we have to break through are also common. The two of us push each other to the end. The matches with him are difficult from every aspect of the human being. But they are of course the most interesting as well"

Guarantee of success - winning the first set

We reminded him that he won all of his 20 matches against Murray after winning the first set.

"I didn't know that, but now I must win that first set in the next match as well. It looks like that is the guarantee of success"
- said smiling Nole.

Novak Djokovic reveals: I watch my matches on the internet

The preparation is just as important as the duel with the opponent which is why it is no surprise that Novak Djokovic has action in "Play site" firm which works with tennis stats. Novak has decided to invest in business that helps him to prepare better for the match.

MVxktkqTURBXy85YzZjMjVlM2EwY2I1YzMzMjI2MzYwZWE4N2NmYmI5Yi5qcGVnk5UCzQMUAMLDlQLNAdYAwsOVB9kyL3B1bHNjbXMvTURBXy8xZDc0Y2I0MTcwNTk1MDQzNjYyOWNhYmQ2MDZmNTBmNi5wbmcHwgA

"It's about an innovative technology which helps tennis players to prepare better for the match. The focus is on tennis players paying attention on some specifics of the opponent and so find good and bad sides of the rival. Also, we help the parents to watch the matches of their kids on lower category tournaments. It's important that parents are always informed about the development of the child, to see how the child plays and behaves", said Djokovic for Blicsport.

There are people in Novak's team that have the duty to scout the opponent, but he didn't want to reveal the names.

"There are people who work on that, who collect information and send it to me in video form which I later analyse with my team. If I need something more to prepare myself for the matches, then we have additional meetings", said the world number two.

Obviously, Djokovic regularly follows the results of his biggest rivals wherever he is in the world.

"I am always following and it is tough for me to picture any other top player not following the results of other rivals"

Qs2ktkqTURBXy8wYmQ4OWFkZDA1ZGY3OTBiN2I5ODJjNTA5YWUyNGQ1Ny5qcGVnk5UCzQMUAMLDlQLNAdYAwsOVB9kyL3B1bHNjbXMvTURBXy8xZDc0Y2I0MTcwNTk1MDQzNjYyOWNhYmQ2MDZmNTBmNi5wbmcHwgA

Unsurprisingly, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer draw most of Novak's attention.

"To be clear, I don't watch all of their matches, but I do watch some segments. Semifinals and finals. That is the daily part of my work, I must always be prepared"

Technology has improved a lot in recent years which makes all your interest accessible on the internet.

"I find my matches on Youtube as well and I watch them. Internet is full of all sorts of matches and points, so when I need it, I watch them. Now it's very easy to find some information regarding the tactic of the opponent"

After winning the tournament in Doha, Novak immediately went to Australia.

"I enjoy Melbourne, I feel that I belong to those courts as soon as I step on them. This is my most successful Grand Slam and I came here with highest goals. I have time to acclimatize"

Novak Djokovic has won the Australian Open in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016.

Vajda instead of Vemic

Instead of Dusan Vemic who took the position of Novak's coach in Doha, it's Marian Vajda who will fly to Melbourne. Vajda and Vemic will rotate at the coach position in 2017, while Novak will be deciding who will show up at which tournament.

Djokovic: If I had no belief in the title, I wouldn't have showed up

The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic deeply believes in winning a 7th title at the Australian Open which would make him the all time most successful player of season's first Grand Slam.

8180582-3x2-700x467.jpg

Djokovic and Roy Emerson have the most titles at Aussie Open with six each, and the Serb would stand alone on the all time list in Melbourne should he triumph for a 3rd consecutive time.

"A lot of tennis players have Australian Open as their favorite Grand Slam, and I am one of them. Melbourne is by far my most successful Grand Slam, I love to play here and I can't wait to start. If I didn't believe in the 7th title I wouldn't have even showed up in Australia", said Djokovic.

He added that he awaits this tournament more experienced and that he believes that he will reach the real form when it's needed the most.

"This year is a big challenge for me, I hope that I will respond to it adequately. I learned a lot from the previous period, it's going to be difficult to repeat the form of 2015 or the start of 2016 but I am looking for a new one", concluded the world number two.

Djokovic will start his Melbourne defense against the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, against whom he has a successful head to head score of 9-4.

Potential rivals in his road to the final will be Denis Istomin, Carreno-Busta, Grigor Dimitrov, Dominic Thiem, Milos Raonic or Rafael Nadal, while the favorites in the other half of the draw are the world number one Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, while there is also Roger Federer.

Australian Open starts on 16th of January, the final is on 29th of January.

Vajda on the relationship with Novak, Becker and Imaz

In an interview for the Slovakian media, Novak Djokovic's coach Marian Vajda talked about the player's form as well as the former and new members of the coaching staff.

1807967256587d299441c29399183638_640.jpg

The Slovak became the first coach of Novak Djokovic this season once again, while the new name of the coaching staff is Pepe Imaz.

The Serbian tennis player had a crisis in the 2nd half of last season, but the start of this season and winning Qatar Open gives hope that it's behind him.

"Novak was reviewing himself last season and he found the balance. He played the Doha final very well. There was a small crisis as well, in the semifinal against Verdasco, but he managed to raise himself and finish the match as a winner. After that he defeated Andy Murray in the final and is awaiting the Australian Open ready", said Vajda.

After huge success when he was the holder of all Grand Slams, Djokovic admited that he had personal problems, while there were stories that it culminated with the departure of Boris Becker, who was the first man of Novak's team since the end of 2013.

"I have tried to explain several times already, but it's not simple. I have known Novak for a long time, very well privately and personally. I am a professional too and was asking myself what is the priority. Boris was a significant part of the team and contributed to Novak's success in the previous period and winning titles. Novak was self-critical, while Becker maybe didn't conciously accept that breakup, but he didn't talk with us about that and we can't guess what has been happening him since leaving the team", added the Slovakian expert.

2075584124587d29945fbe9696137047_640.jpg

Vajda has been in Novak's team ever since 2006, while in the interview he also talked about Pepe Imaz, the man whose appearance in the team caused a lot of controversy.

"Novak as a top sportsman is exposed to big stress, and now he found a mentor for himself who knows about tennis and helps him with stress a lot. Speculations appeared about me having a problem with his presence in the team and that I don't like that relationship, but that is not correct. I don't see anything negative in that, in fact. Novak's biggest priority is his appearance at the Grand Slam, and in order for everything to be successful, it's needed to maintain a positive mental attitude", concluded Vajda.

Vajda says that Novak is ready for the 2017 season.

"We had successful preparation in Monte Carlo. I took over the role of the main coach, with Dusan Vemic and other members of the team. Every member contributes to Novak's preparation, condition and state. Every member of the team is important and we are all cooperating excellently and making sure that there is positive atmosphere around Novak. Novak is physically ready, very flexible and healthy. He is in good mental state, and that mental balance is very important. He is ready, which he is confirming himself", ended the Slovak.

It shouldn't shock any of us that Novak went out early! We shouldn't think much of it since it has been routine for him with 6 titles; the only guy with 3 in a row in the Open era! With his consistency, we expect him to make the quarters or semis every time! Nole had to come back to Earth sooner or later! I think he's more than earned a little confidence in his ability to come back! It didn't bother me too much! I just hope he gets his act back together to start the Masters series events strong; taking at least 2 of the 1st 3! Right now he's a victim of his own success; needing to defend so many pts before Wimbledon! He took Madrid even though he hadn't planned on going; special invite by tourney owner Tiriac! I only NEED him to win another FO & I'll be satisfied enough! Staying perfect isn't in the cards; even for the other ATG's of Fedal, Sampras, going back to BORG! :p ;)

i can't see djoko going far in iw / Miami..with so little tennis since AO, and with a dodgy shoulder.

Percentages should be against him anyway being pret' neat perfect for the last few years as at the AO! If it was automatic they wouldn't bother playing the events! I'm hoping Nole takes at least one of them; after being at the top for so long there's only one way to go and that's down! :p ;)

I would say whatever makes him happy. Man is already living tennis legend.
On the other side ,5 days after Stefan was born, he played Paris Masters and started his second domination on tour which lasted until RG16.
So we should wait 9 months, then expect another 4 in a row, eh?

:D Yeah, of course I want whatever Djok feels would make him happy. But then, it'll always be a sad day when an ATG leaves the game.

Difficult draw for Djokovic in Acapulco

Novak Djokovic will play against Martin Klizan in the first round of 500 event in Acapulco.

30461974758b3d317a97b6736931133_w640.jpg

The world number 2 got a very tough draw because on the road to the potential final he could face Juan Martin del Potro, Nick Kyrgios, Bernard Tomic, Dominic Thiem/David Goffin.

In the other side of the draw the main favorite is Novak's great rival Rafael Nadal, followed by Marin Cilic.

Djokovic will play in the Mexican resort for the first time. Unlike in previous years when he was playing Dubai, in 2017 he chose Acapulco in order to acclimatize more easily for the American continent prior to the Masters in Indian Wells and Miami.

Novak will play Klizan for the third time, and he won both previous meetings, in Miami and Shanghai 2015. The match is scheduled for Tuesday not before 11 pm, mid and east Europe time.

The defending champion is Dominic Thiem, while the total prize money for the tournament is 1,6 million dollars.

Novak: I worked a lot, I think I am ready

The world number 2 Novak Djokovic arrived in Acapulco where he will start his appearance on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

16939640_1402440896475424_1174725722281013851_n.jpg

Djokovic said that he used the break after the Australian Open for work and expressed the expectations that he will play at a high level.

"I lost early in Australia, played one match in the Davis Cup, got some rest and spent time with family. In the past I played Dubai before Indian Wells, now I decided to come here. I am in Mexico for the first time, the reception is incredible, people came to training, overall, it's great to be here"

He says he is surprised by the reception.

"I met a lot of Mexicans in the world, I know with how much passion they follow sport but I am surprised how much people love and respect tennis. I hope the week will be good, I am sorry for not coming a day or few earlier but I believe that I will be ready for the first match and that I will go far at the tournament"

16939379_1402440623142118_1865771052160397028_n.jpg

Djokovic spoke calmly about the experience of his loss in Australia which happened a bit more than a month ago.

"For years I have had a lot of luck to be very successful in Australia, I won six titles there, this is the first time I lost in the 1st week. It's good that I had more time to rest and spend it with my family but I worked a lot in the last few weeks and I think I am ready to play well"

Even though Nadal and Federer are his big rivals, he says the Australian Open final delighted him.

"Like everyone who loves tennis, I am also happy for them being here again, they are tennis legends, they brought popularity to this sport and it's good for tennis that we saw them in a final again"

No more tickets - Djokovic got Acapulco up on their feet

Organizers of ATP tournament in Acapulco have informed that after Novak Djokovic's arrival, all tickets for the entire week have been sold.

The Serbian tennis player accepted the special invitation, and was welcomed in Mexico fittingly for one of the greatest in history.

Some ticket owners had additional profit from Novak's arrival because they resold the tickets for 180.000 pesos, more than 6000 euros.

True he is going to be spotty. Maybe we could see a deep FO run. But might not be until the US Open he gets to a final and has a chance to win another major.
Time will tell!
