Wrong section. And any points you earn from a tournament last until the conclusion of that tournament next year, or 365 days if that tournament isn't around anymore.
So what you earn from your results at Wimbledon 2016 lasts until the conclusion of Wimbledon 2017. Points are updated weekly, so they'd be updated the following Monday? Just a guess since afaik all tournaments end on Sundays, right?
For a 2-week tournament, like the 4 majors, the official rankings might not update on the middle Monday.
I doubt they will give you points based on your results in a tournament only halfway in. I can imagine situations where if a lower tournament was somehow scheduled at the same time as the first week of a major and you competed in it, and the next year you played in the major, you'll lose the points from the lower tournament, but won't gain points from the major until it's finished. Otherwise it'd be a bit of a mess. They probably might not even allow tournaments to be scheduled at the same time as the majors for this reason.
Only 128 guys get to play the 1st round of singles at a slam event. Wouldn't your think that there might be some lesser tournaments for all those hundreds of pros who do not qualify for the slam event?
4 weeks out of 52. Do lower ranked pros even play THAT many tournaments? I can't imagine they play more than 20, which is 20 weeks of tournament play, 40 if you include travel. You still have 8 weeks left over.
Don't know. We will have to take a look to see if any players outside of the top 150 or so are playing some other tournament during the AO this month. The live rankings page lists what tournaments each players is currently playing.
Wow so I guess these ranking points are kind of like historically old, they just keep adjusting. So a person with 10,000 points if they miss a grand slam gets deducted down to 8,000 when the tournament ends? And if a person had 10,000 but following year they only reached whatever stage and only get 1,000 so they actually go down to 9,000?
Yeah there are futures and challengers the same weeks as the slams. If you lose week 1 of the slam you can play a tournament the following week if you can get a WC or sign in to qualies. No one loses out.
Stuff runs the first week too. Again challengers and futures
The Open Era is like 40 years old... So yeah, they're kind of old. And yes, if they don't show up to a major they won, they will lose 2000 points at the end of the tournament. That's why Federer's ranking tanked so hard. He missed half a year's worth of points. His ranking won't go up until the second half of the year where he can make significant gains, and his ranking will shoot up pretty quickly if he performs remotely well.
Lower ranked pros play a lot! There are futures and challengers events that take place concurrently all over the world.4 weeks out of 52. Do lower ranked pros even play THAT many tournaments? I can't imagine they play more than 20, which is 20 weeks of tournament play, 40 if you include travel. You still have 8 weeks left over.
