does ANYBODY use the wilson ultra 100?

not talking about the hallowed ultra tour, but the wilson ultra 100 tweener with the 74 RA stiffness rating. is anyone using it, and if so, how is the comfort? how does it compare to the pure drive? I have used both ‘18 and ‘21 pure drives.

obviously I’m interested in this racquet because it is blue.

Out of the 20+ rackets I have demoed this year, this is the worst racket I tried.

Negative power and very stiff. I can't really think of any reason for it to exist unless it's made to be played with multi or weighted up significantly but the balance is horrible too.

Doesn't play anything like a pure drive. More like a high spin control racket with 0 power.

I was on the playtest of the CV version a few years back. It was ok. It was stiff but not necessarily uncomfortable. It had tons of power, which was to be expected, and I remember being able to serve bombs with it. I will have to see if I can dig up my review.

What about the Instinct? It appears to be much less stiff... and it's blue. ;)

I was kind of interested in this racquet since it is said to suit people who have more of a horizontal swing. I haven't had a demo of one but several people at the club use the 100 v3. I may see if I can borrow one.

I actually liked the way this one hit, but it feels a little fat in the throat. It has more of a controlled hit than the PD, but just felt a little too chunky for me.

Thought the v3 was at least solid feeling and comfortable in my short period of demoing it. The power level is a bit hard to control, especially hitting flat.

I prefer by far the crisp and solid feel of the PD.
Recently demoed the Ultra 100 and honestly I found it looks and play like a granny stick. Stiff, bad feel, rocket launcher. And I’m not the kind of player that typically plays heavy soft thin beams, I can appreciate a PD too. This Ultra 100 was just not my cup of tea.

It's Ultra Fat... that is for sure.. decently tighter 16x19 string pattern..hides it's stiffness... But it's Ultra Fat...

I personally haven't used one but Mike Trice, who I've seen on the Essential Tennis Youtube matchplay videos looks like he switched to the newest Ultra 100 from previously using some version of the Clash so there are some people out there who like it.

I used the Ultra 100CV for a year as that is what was on sale that the pro shop recommended for me when I first started. After demo'ing many racquets I really hate the way it feels now. I switched to a blade as I got better as a player. It's very powerful, and very stiff. Big beam, not very maneuverable. Muted feel as well. Not much to say good about it other than I can serve faster flat serves with it than any other racquet.

A lot of professional players use Ultra, especially women.
Not sure of course if they use the CV version to further protect their arms or not.

This is a thread revival. I'm assuming this thread is referencing the v2 based on start date.

My local Play it Again Sports has a 'new' Ultra 100L v2 for $90. Still has the cardboard piece in the middle and plastic on the grip. Someone obviously never played with it and sold it/traded it in. I hit with a neighbors Ultra 100L v3 when I demoed the Blade and Clash, and hated it....but I think that is probably more due to the strings on the racquet than the racquet itself. Part of me wants to purchase and see if I can resell online, but another part thinks it might be a good racquet for my wife (who is new-ish to the game). Reading this thread, I would think that it is the worst racquet ever made. Is it really that bad? Other reviews seem to make it sound rather delightful for match play.

THey all used painted Pro Opens and H25 pro stocks. The Pro Open died for this abomination of a frame

As of this moment I play better with this racquet than any of my others. I do agree with others that it has less power than I thought. However, I am getting good power and great control. I tried all of my rackets and keep coming back to this.

Update: 11/10. I actually started getting a little pain in the wrists and elbow. However, I was hitting ~2 hours per day, and I was really pounding it with less than stellar form. I did note that it really is lower powered than a couple other rackets I’ve been using. However the ball is dropping in the court every time when hitting at 75%. No flyers at all. I still hit with it but limit it to 50 balls. I think this racket has very good spin and control along with good power. I consider this racquet a good all a rounder. For those with arm issues, I’d stay away from poly. It hit perfect with me with Wilson Gut Power. I know it is cheap, but I like that string along with Head Velocity MLT. Both are good on the airm.

The newest Ultra 100 plays fantastic, actually really like it. We added about 2g of lead @12 and like it more. Both it and the FX play better than PD for me. I also have an Ultra Tour 95 (which doesn't have much to do with Ultra but) which is a really really nice stock frame.

Couldn't agree more! Never had played an Ultra 100 before (only the Pro version) maybe because of bad reviews. Tried most PD iterations and then had the chance to play the 2023 FX500 and was surprised how good it felt. I always extend my rackets and unfortunately the Dunlop didn't work for me and went back to my Clash Pro extended. This week got one new 2023 Ultra 100 noir edition (gorgeous) and was completely surprised how good it felt. It's plush...feels somewhat like the Clash Pro V2 (which I hated) but much more stable and controlled. The swingweight it's too low for my liking, so I added 10g to 3&9 (5g to each side) and it played much better than my previous experience with the Dunlop.
It's a possible switch for sure, but need more playing time to take that decision.
The Ultra Tour 95 has nothing to do with the 100. Poles apart. Played with the 95 some years ago and never felt confident enough (the serves were great though)

They should drop either the Ultra or the Instinct, and with the one left go back to the original Instinct mold the Liquidmetal Instinct used with the 18x19 pattern.

Got my hands on the Ultra V4 last month...and haven't given it out of them since. Wasn't expecting too much but I was really surprised how they perform. If you're a 3,5-4,0 player who is not an attacker in the game and appreciates some help from the racquet in defense - this is a great frame to try. Not mentioning the cosmetics...it looks awesome. Strung with Alu Power at 24/23 kg this frame delivers tons of free energy, nice spin (surprisingly the balls stay in the court sometimes even when you think it's going out) and the stiffness is not an issue. Serves bombs...for sure it's not a control frame but that's clear of course. Not having the attention that it might have in my opinion. Bought a 2nd one already and it just gets better by everytime I play.
