Does anyone else have vivid, enlightened dreams?

This is exactly it. I think people who have the ability to dream lucidly like @Gary Duane and @-NN- probably have two things going for them: It's true that they can conjure dreams specific to their need or interest, but I think, most importantly, they can wake up at the right time. I think the fact people can exert some sort of control on their lucid dreams (this seems to be a feature unless I misunderstand the term "Lucid Dream") might indicate that the brain activity during those dreams could be a hybrid between a waking state and deep REM dreaming (so something similar to an artist in an inspired state, which kind of justifies the higher degree of coherence (if not logical at least artistic in a sense) and sometimes visual/textual/auditory sophistication. But I'm just theorizing here.
My understanding is that there are two major elements at work during lucid dreams. One is that the body enters a sleep paralysis state when dreaming; if this didn't occur, people would be constantly injuring themselves or the person next to them during dreams. The other is that the actual duration of dreams is far shorter than people perceive them to have been when awakening. It's a fleeting state where the mind and body are in a twilight zone between being asleep and being awake. It's a state where people can't move their bodies and often become aware of this, and it feels much longer than the actual duration. Once the person becomes aware of the dream state, it vanishes quickly.

Do you know why some people or a lot of them experience some demon like entity sitting on their chest during the sleep paralysis? Apparently it has been frightening people for centuries. I've personally never experienced it even though I've had sleep paralysis a number of times in the past.

I have never heard of someone saying this, but my guess is that their subconscious mind turns to the religious imagery of demons to explain the condition and it seems real in the lucid dream state. This seems like it would have been more common in the times when churches warned of demons and witches, and people explained things they didn't understand in these terms.

It's not just the demon but all sorts of bizarre experiences during those moments. You can find those online.

In one of my paralysis, I woke up but was unable to move and there was a country music playing on the radio. I was supremely conscious but my body was still paralyzed as I wasn't able to move. The song they were playing sounded like as if I was in Alabama. I never had any radio in my bedroom and I don't think I was ever in Alabama.

As soon as I was able to move my body, the song stopped playing.

If you cannot move after partially waking up, it simply means you are tired and not getting enough sleep.

That's not what's being asked here but the experiences during the state. Have you ever had sleep paralysis?

Yes, but during recursive dreams. Like I am dreaming that I am dreaming but I am a little bit awake and know I have to get up but can't. Looking back, it was due to sleep deprivation.

That was your case. In my case, I had a good night sleep and didn’t dream anything. I remember this clearly. I simply woke up and found myself to be completely paralyzed unable to move etc. but I was able to see the bedroom door as I was facing it when I woke up and it was closed as it should have been. Then I heard the sound of a country song that was playing on the radio and it had the word ‘Alabama’ in it. I wondered what was going on and started panicking right away but then quickly controlled myself. A few seconds later I was able to move and the song stopped right away.

And I still have sleep deprivation (and who hasn’t experienced it and yet, sleep paralysis is not that common) from time to time but I don’t get the paralysis anymore. It just completely stopped once I decided to stay calm upon waking up.

But I also know some people who experience serious night terrors. What’s your explanation on that? I mean science has completely failed to cure those.

I am surprised you weren’t having sex with some hot chick in your dream. But it’s probably a good thing for a change.

I had a very vivid lucid dream where I was hearing classical music that I composed.

I must add the so called hallucinations are almost always of very dark nature.
I have never had a dark lucid dream. They were always interesting, like observing cities and people in different cities past and present. When I began wondering how my mind was doing this, I would wake up.

Lucid dream and sleep paralysis are two different things and I don't think there's such a thing as dark lucid dreams. I categorize them as nightmares. This is more of a flight or fight situation whereas lucid dreams are probably more creative or just plain lucid.

From what I know, when we fall asleep, our legs fall asleep first followed by the rest of the body and the mind falls asleep the last. But when we wake up, it's the opposite as our body wakes up first followed by the mind, but in those cases where the mind or the awareness wakes up first while the body is still asleep, sleep paralysis tends to happen in those moments. It's a very confusing state because it would have been one thing to simply wake up and not being able to move but to experience something not so good is another matter and it tends to scare the **** out of people. It's a mystery of the mind I'd say. There's quite clearly far more than we know.

Anyway, nightmares aren't exactly write-offs. I've had such nightmares that would make such great movies if I were to jot them down but I don't care for it and I don't think it's exclusive to me either but in my nightmares, I am often a simple person put in a very challenging environment where I am in a do or die situation and while they can be incredibly tense, I do enjoy the outcome. I mean in my dream I can run faster than anything or can come up with ideas that can see me through any kind of danger with ease. I just don't like it when my brother (who passed away) shows up in those situations from time to time. That's when they become lucid for a brief moment because then I start questioning my reality around me and next thing you know, I am up. I never understand those - why he appears in some and not in others.

Apparently if you sleep on your back, you become more vulnerable to sleep apnea, sleep paralysis, nightmares etc. This has happened to me so I avoid sleeping on my back.

I just find it very interesting. More research is needed on these observations.

Is it common to have dreams which are highly logical, vivid, and enlightened? For example, dreams which have very clear dialogue, and in many cases brilliant dialogue (sometimes even poetic,) complex and interesting plots, amazing visual imagery (like what you would see in a movie,) etc? I've talked to many people and most tell me that their dreams don't make any sense and even that they are in Black and White or strange colors, or that the "dialogue" uttered within amounts to little more than the musings of a schizophrenic avant-garde play.

I often don't remember my dreams, and even I do get some nonsensical dreams (though they are always in color,) but often my dreams are like highly coherent movies with brilliant and original plots, and I've gotten many ideas from dreams. Just last night I had an amazing dream about Artificial Intelligence. Not brilliant on a technical level, but in the story built around it.
hehe, i've been taking alpha brain by onnit, and i definitely have more lucid/memorable dreams... in general seems like my dreams is my subconscious trying to work out IRL problems/questions.

Being pregnant I had orgasms in my sleep 3-4 times a night. No touching. But real orgasms.
Quite incredible. Its all in the head. Also something that should be researched more.
Did you dream of @sureshs?

One time I dreamt I witnessed Sureshs drop volley in person and as I was ready to explode the alarm sounded. I was in a foul mood all day.

My dreams are not pleasant ones and I cannot share those
Just a few examples : verbal poltical arguments , accidents , fighting and nuclear explosions
I feel like Eric cartman when I dream

I only sleep 3-6 hours a night, so rarely remember or have dreams. When I do, they are very vivid though. I used to dream about music all the time too and created some great songs from them when I could remember.

When I sleep that little I also have fewer dreams. The ones where I hear music, like you and @-NN- are simply amazing. It is as if a muse was literally whispering at your ear when you sleep.

I see what you are saying. But what I mean by "Enlightened Dream" is not necessarily what is commonly referred to as "Lucid Dream" which seems to be a very narrow category of dream with the features you describe. By "Enlightened Dream" I mean dreams which a high degree of coherence and amazing imagery / conversation / sound (as in music) or even abstract thoughts.

I have many dreams of this nature. I keep a voice-activated recorder next to my bed and whisper them when I awaken during a dream, and have logs of thousands of dreams. I have shared dreams related to tennis on this forum for several years.

Here's one that I posted here:

I had a strange dream, probably inspired by a post I made in "Word Association" regarding a Hitchcock film. There was a casino in Reno overlooking an impossibly long and steep ski slope. It looked too dangerous and I left my seat by the window.

I noticed a tennis shop inside a huge casino. While I was looking at very expensive racquets, Davydenko asked if I wanted to play a practice set.

The court was on a bed of flat rock with huge cliffs on every side. I soon realized that the net was solid and I couldn't see the ball until it was too late, and there was danger that I would fall off the cliff.

Davydenko hit a drop shot; the net was at an angle and shaped like a nose. I ran into the "net" and realized that it was a nose -- Elena Dementieva's nose. We were playing tennis on her face, and I couldn't decide if we were small, or if she was gigantic.

I patted the nose, like I was comforting a horse by patting it on the neck. The court began to tilt and Davydenko fell off. I grabbed the bridge of Dementieva's nose to keep from falling off, and yelled, "Elena, wake up! Turn back the other way!" I woke up at this point.

Another tennis dream:

I also had a dream about Elena Likhovtseva, right around Christmas. We were playing mixed doubles in front of a big crowd and my racquet was so soft and flexible that my serves were shooting everywhere but in the court.

Elena told me not to worry and that my next serve would be good. I only felt worse because she was so nice and I knew I was blowing the match. I went to my bag for a new racquet and I could bend all my racquets with my hands. I took the best racquet, hit a serve, and it went into the stands. Everyone laughed.

Elena walked up to me and kissed me on the forehead. She said, "It's such a beautiful day, why play tennis?" I looked around and we were next to a beach. Elena put her arm on my shoulder and said, "Let's go swimming." I then woke up.

Strangely, have had dreams about Maria Kirilenko, who I also met. The last one I was in a secret lab in Moscow and Maria explained that they have a technique where they can reverse engineer the encoding of memories and read minds. She was wearing a lab coat and led me down a long, dingy hall in what seemed like an abandoned building. I became nervous and woke up. I also recently dreamed Maria and I were on a boat.

Another Maria Kirilenko dream:

I was in Hamburg and boarded a boat to Stockholm. When I opened the door for my room, Maria Kirilenko was inside. I asked her what's going on, and she said we're going to Russia and that I got on the wrong boat. I told her that I don't want to go to Russia and it's not safe for me, and she said that it's too late.

She sat on a large bed covered in folders and documents, and I sat down next to her and picked up a folder labeled "Putin's Secret Banks." Maria explained that we have all we need to arrest Putin.

I became really scared and pulled out an electronics monitor from my sports coat pocket and found the room was wired for surveillance. I whispered to Maria that Russian security knows about you and we'll be killed if we go to Russia. I grabbed her hand to rush off the boat and woke up.

Another tennis dream:

I dreamed I was at a bar and Lucie Safarova, who was smoking a cigarette, was the bartender. She told me that she quit tennis, then served me a gigantic glass of beer, which she said was free.

Karolína Plíšková grabbed my arm and said it was time for my tattoos. I told her that I didn't want any tattoos and to go away. She pulled me off my bar stool and I could see a big Czech biker-looking guy in a corner with tattoo gear. I struggled to get away and woke up.

Here is a lucid dream:

I sometimes wonder how musicians know if they are coming up with something new, or repeating something they have heard before that is just residing in the depths of their mind. I remember once being in the deep winter of Trondheim, Norway and having a lucid dream of classical music I composed being performed by an orchestra in Moscow. As my mind hovered between dreaming and awareness, I wondered how my mind was creating this music, and if it were mine. I then woke up and saw a pretty woman sleeping next to me, and tried to remember the night before.

I barely have this type of dream with surreal situations and a lot of symbolism, but two nights ago I dreamt I played a match of tennis with somebody I know and don't like. We were playing in his living room, and everytime I tried to serve I became paralized, so I ended up hitting the net every time. The symbolism in this dream is probably too simple and blatantly obvious (I need to deal with this person instead of continuing to pursue diplomatic solutions,) and nothing like the very elaborate set of images and actions in your dream. I have some of those, but not very often. Lately they are either very coherent and brilliant, or vague and mildly nonsensical (like this one.)

Finally, I have had a dream about Marloes Horst, who I have met, and found reasons to toss in photos of once, or maybe twice, on this forum.

I dreamed that I was working at a film studio, and Marloes Horst walked in my office. She gave me a giant Starbucks coffee and began taking off her clothes. I asked her what is she doing. She said she was tired of wearing clothes and took a seat. As she sat naked across my office, I began thinking this will look really bad if anyone walked in, and I woke up.

Musicians tend to tap into the collective consciousness and collect it from there as ideas are floating around all the time. One can tap into it through dreams or mediation or drugs etc.

I remember one musician saying something to the line that him and another musician got a great idea for a song around the same time but he got beaten by the other musician as he acted quick on it while he was still pondering about it.

Have you ever had futuristic dreams? I have those once in a while and I really, really love them.

In one, I was in a desert riding a pod like vehicle where the front was completely made of glass but the sides were open, as in, no doors so you can easily get out and get back in. This dream is still incredibly vivid to me even though I probably dreamt it at least a couple of years ago.

Anyway, in this pod that I was driving (felt though as if it was self-driving - slightly floating not touching the ground - maybe an inch or two above the ground), it was made for two people or two people can sit side by side with both sides being open. It's almost like an egg shape but not quite (I could draw or sketch it) and we were driving through this desert. What was amazing is that, the air that was passing through the vehicle was incredibly nice (not cold or warm) and just perfect and very fresh almost Heaven like. Soon we came to a very nice ...not sure how to describe it but it was like a pool but only you drink water from it but it was the size of a pool and in 4 corners it had pillars with this beautiful blue curtains that were sort of tucked in to the pillars or wrapped around the pillars creating a very nice view. The pillars seemed to be made of gold. There were beautifully shaped seashell like containers in each corner of the pool and we drank water from it using those even though we weren't really thirsty despite being in the midst of a desert and all. The water tasted amazing and it looked like crystal blue with sparkles everywhere even though there was no sun, which was another amazing thing about it, because it was most surely daytime but without the sun. it seemed we stopped there just to rest and drink this divine water or something.

I can only, however, remember this much. The man who was with me was a tall man wearing all white and with a white turban (is that what they call it?) and he looked very handsome with olive coloured skin but we weren't talking at all and I was comfortable with it, and to this day, I wonder where exactly we were going and for what purpose. It's quite possible I woke up at that point for some reason. I am a light sleeper, after all.

What do you mean by creative side of dreams? The Dementieva dream was a bit strange, but the other ones that I mentioned here were pretty mundane.

I know some well known scientists talk about getting great ideas from similar realms, as do writers.

Interesting dream. One of my most haunting dreams involved being alone orbiting Earth and thinking that everyone I know and love is down there. I felt so alone and starting yelling to the control people to bring me back, but got no response. I woke up feeling terrified in the middle of the night, had to get out of bed, and didn't want to go back to sleep that night. I can still access that feeling as I write this.

not to burst anyones bubble... but arent vivid dreams a precursor for dementia possibly?
For me, it was a precursor to Dementieva. They often correlate to a disrupted sleep schedule. In my case, jet lag or being in bed with a newly-met woman were usually involved, and I had most of them in my twenties and thirties.

Not that I can remember right now.

What do you mean by creative side of dreams? The Dementieva dream was a bit strange, but the other ones that I mentioned here were pretty mundane.

I know some well known scientists talk about getting great ideas from similar realms, as do writers.

Dreams that give you creative ideas. Something to take away and apply in real life etc. Have you ever done that?

I liked this haunting dream of yours much better. Much better than those WTA dreams. :p

Serious question, were you feeling abandoned by your family or loved ones (in your waking life) at that time when you had that dream? I always pay attention to what's happening in my real life when I have those haunting dreams. I think we are subject to many triggers and suppress a great deal in our waking life and they tend to manifest in dreams; albeit in a very weird way. The presentations are always so dramatic and I think it's because it (your sub-conscious) wants you to pay attention to the real problems in real life.

I think I will start writing my dreams where possible.

I would have imagined you would have very pleasant dreams to compensate for your daily traumatic experiences in that post-apocalyptic nightmare you like to call Las Virus. :D

I know if I get any illness I am moving back to Oregon and using the assisted death way
I am going for the pre horse and meth mix then the good stuff
Those Hebrew letters look so cool on my site
You like Las Virus or las Vermin
