Donald Young's amazing streak

Wow DY is one lucky guy. Jesse Levine has to be the weakest opponent in the entire draw. This is probably a 50/50 match-up right now, although DY should normally have the edge here.

Donald Young and smoothness

We often talk about athletes and how smooth they play. It doesn't always work in tennis. Connors and Nadal are certainly not smooth, they grind and go crazy, but they are 2 of the all time greats. On the other hand, Donald Young is very, very smooth. He moves gracefully, flows with his beautiful forehand and natural volleys. But he misses lots of easy shots and loses all the time. I don't know if his problem is mental or what. He's a mystery.

Not that poor. For losing 16 consecutive matches, Young has earned 133,071 US dollars (One of those defeats was unpaid – at the London Olympics). Not bad work if you can get it.

In touring pro terms that is poor. How much (if any) do you think will be left after expenses?

Those are all pretty high quality players. I'm surprised that DY has drawn so many decent players in a row with his schedule.

Ryan Sweeting (Delray Beach)
Steve Darcis (Indian Wells)
David Goffin (Miami)
Benoit Paire (Casablanca)
Paul-Henri Mathieu (Monte Carlo)
Thomaz Bellucci (Nice)
Grigor Dimitrov (Roland Garros)
Jamie Baker (Eastbourne)Mikhail Youzhny (Wimbledon)
Michael Russell (Newport)Steve Johnson (Atlanta)Andreas Seppi (Olympics)
Jeremy Chardy (Toronto)

Oh yeah, a very impressive list. 2-3 fairly good players, the other ones are either semi-retired or never made it. I've heard somewhere the highlighted names, but can't associate them with faces for my life sake.

If you don't know Goffin, Darcis , Ryan Sweeting , ... you're not really following tennis at all ..
Goffin, a youngster, made an impressive run at RG this year and this was widely higlighted by ATP website.
Darcis, who took down Berdych in the olympics and made 3rd round.
...
Just saying these aren't just some random players

That's actually quite incredible to see. And they say tennis players outside the top 20 are underpaid!
I guess once he starts being unable to qualify for main draws his earning potential will drop off. Surely he won't be getting more wildcards.

But you haven't factored in the expenses...no wonder Mommy still coaches him...he can't afford anything else.

He's been lucky to draw a qualifier at Cincy. Which by no means guarantees him a win though. Chardy, Rochus, Matosevic, Falla, Stakhovsky, Ram, Goffin, Lu, Levine, Jancovicz, Fognini, Dodig, Mayer, and Mathieu all won their first round qualifying matches today.

And the lucky (or unlucky) qualifier is :drumroll: Jesse Levine.

:levine enters the arena jumping and running through and ripping a big poster with number 17, smoke and cheers all around :

I'm conflicted on if I want to see DY break it... I mean this record means more to Vince's legacy than it does to DY's.
