My prediction: Americans chances in Round 1

Ryan Harrison vs Yen-Hsun Lu - Good win for Harrison on the last one, but I think it depends on Lu's serve again. Wasn't really clicking on that day and Harrison won. I think Ryan gets the duke in 4 this time. His head's still vacant against better players, but he's starting to beat more people he should beat.

James Blake vs Benjamin Becker - I'm looking for ANY reason to see Blake win here, and I can't find one. He hasn't even played a challenger since RG, and when he played one, he got squashed by tennis' resident jobber Paolo Lorenzi. He's not playing to form at all, and doesn't even have a warmup. He MIGHT take a set if his serve is there, but I see Becker in 4.

Michael Russell vs Adrian Menendez-Maceiras - Two qualies. Congrats to Maceiras for making it, but he hasn't played up to ANY form since the Morocco challenger in Mid-March. Russell runs hot and cold, as we all know, and he's only decent right now. Still, he's playing better than Maceiras, and I see Russell moving on in 5.

John Isner vs Alejandro Falla - Isner in three. Giant man server vs clay courter. No contest. Probably like 4, 4, and 3 or something.

Donald Young vs Mikhail Youzhny - DY can get nothing going at all, not even in warm-up events. Youzhny, other than the absolute flameout against Ferrer, has been playing some good tennis this year with a semi run and a win in a 250. Youzhny in 3 easy sets.

Ryan Sweeting vs Potito Starace - This is Sweeting's chance to get some confidence. Starace is a clay courter by nature, and he's played something awful all year long, even on his surface. Sweeting hasn't been anything pretty either, but he made it past qualies, and he gets this draw, so I see Sweeting in 4.

Wayne Odesnik vs Bjorn Phau - Congrats Wayne, you make it probably based on the fact that Monfils can't be bothered to take care of his body(I understand injuries, trust me, but he isn't taking care of himself). Still, this match is going to be big piles of suck. Phau had a little run earlier in the year, but has played horribly since. Odesnik has a Colombia challenger around the beginning of the year, and that's about it of note. I'll say Odesnik in 5 because he's been a tiny bit more consistent. Roddick will destroy him in the next round though.

Andy Roddick vs Jamie Baker - Ehhhh, I'll say Roddick in 4. Baker has been playing the plucky underdog in these grass events and doing decent. He'll probably take a set. Roddick's just playing too well right now on his surface.

Sam Querrey vs Vasek Pospisil - Querrey in 3. Before Eastbourne, Pospisil had won one match in two months. Querrey's had a couple little runs and is playing better.

Jesse Levine vs Karol Beck - Beck's just playing at a better level right now. Final in the Nottingham challenger, Semi in the Athens challenger, and Round of 16 in Rotterdam. Levine's been playing fine, but I see Beck in 4.

Mardy Fish vs Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo - Fish hasn't played at all, but he's playing a guy who hasn't won a match of any kind since April 30th. I say Fish in 5 because of rust.

Brian Baker vs Rui Machado - Guy playing out of his world vs the worst ATP player in tennis this year, and not even on a surface he likes. Baker in 3.

Blake is 4-0 against Becker or something isn't he? So that is something in his favor, although they have not played in a year.

Falla a CC'er??? Oh yeah, that's right Wimby'10 was clay so it explains serving for the match vs six-time champion. Also explains ****** win.

I think everyone forgot that Falla was serving for the match and 3 points away from defeating Federer 2 years ago.

Well Falla's career record on grass is 8 wins and 16 losses, so it's not like he's some great grass-courter. He has really zoning on that particular day against Fed, and if he has one of "those days" again he's a threat to anyone, but he hasn't had that many of them, especially on grass, in his career.

Don't really disagree with any of OPs predictions. Really, Russell, Sweeting and Odesnik all got surprisingly soft first round opponents, as I favor all the against their opponents even though I don't think any of those 3 Americans are actually among the top 80 or so players in the 128 that are in the draw on their current form. Baker got a very easy 1st round too obviously.

Have no idea what to expect from Fish, and The Donald is going to get absolutely crushed.

Out of all the Americans, DY got the short straw in the draw. Mikhail is one of those players that rarely has a bad match, and for DY to win, he has to morph into David Ferrer and just attack like hell...not happening.

Most also forget Fed waxed him @Halle two weeks before. I think it was 1&2. He took his medicine well and went to UNICEF for a 1/4-run (lost to Malisse in 3).

Don't get me wrong...Issie wins most probably but not in a cakewalk. 8-16 is a number...look at the victors and victims and/or scorelines...usually losing to good grasscourters and high seeds. This is at least his third year in a row drawing a relatively high seed (Isner, Melzer, Fed). If you don't upset them in R1, it skews your overall. 24 total matches & a .333 conversion isn't a stat to earn the "clay courter" label hung on him by OP. Also, the leftie advantage will make an Issie waltz less probable. Funny that neither have a "t" or a "b" in their names, bcoz I see a couple TB's in the scoreline.

So far so good, although the sets weren't exactly right.

Congrats to Mike Russell for advancing. That'll bring him up a bit in the rankings. Same with Ryan Sweeting.

Isner, in this form, will NEVER pass 9 in the world.

Between the French and Wimby, I've probably seen 30 chances where he had putaways, short balls, and sitters, and he's netted them or hit them out. After those awesome matches against Fed and Djoker, where he was hitting that forehand with consistency, he's reverting back to serve and done guy who is dangerous if serve is on, but beatable.
