Edmund will never amount to anything?

His movement and backhand are suspect. Also his forehand is not that good? It just seems to be a spinnier and uglier version of Wawrinka's forehand??

He was simply lucky at this year's AO. Unlikely to have another similar run like this again?

Will never win a slam, a Masters 1000 or anything of note. The fact Jack Sock won a Masters speaks volumes of the competition these days. And Sock was better than Edmund has ever been.

It's close to fearhand level. Watch this (3:20, if you want just one example):

Have matched it. But it’s not that good???

Better than your average atp forehand but not that special? Not on the level of delpo, versesco, Gonzalez, Blake, Soderling etc

Kyle Edmund has modeled his game after Andy Murray and he has 60 percent of the talent. Andy Murray is a glorified pusher; too afraid to unleash the power on his groundstrokes and play aggressively. I modeled my first serve on andy's second so I guess I am being overly critical.

You may be right, of course. I wasn't too keen on, or followed, him much before this match. In this match, I saw how effective his FH was, and how he let too many chances to approach net go by. If he works on his net game a bit, I think he can do a lot of damage. A GS? Too hard to say, but guys around his age, I don't have many I'd put ahead of him; Chung (if healthy), Zverev (if a bit more aggressive), Shapovalov (if more consistent on returns and a slice return), Kyrgios (if focused), Tsitsipas (when a bit more ATP-tour experienced).

Here's another example. BTW I'm not an Edmund fan before people start screwing with me about posting his highlights :D. Nice FH though.

Kyle Edmund's game is nothing like Andy Murray's.
I apologize, I wasn't being objective, I'm a huge Kyle Edmund fan; I should have recused myself from this thread. Having said that, Kyle Edmund lives and breathes andy Murray's game tape. And he is the number one collector on **** of Murray memorabilia. You are second Mainad; but in andy's jockstrap sales dating back 6 years you are the largest collector in the Sothebys and Christies's auction history. Bravo on the malodorous Murray wears.

He plays nothing like Murray. Lacks both speed and consistency. Murray is 3 times the athlete, and tennis player.

As someone said, he is similar to Wawrinka/DelPotro.....without as much talent imho.

He is a 99 cent store version of Muggy

It says wonders about where the game is when he is ranked at all

If you've watched even a single match of his, you'd know he is an offensive player that looks to dictate with his FH and try to hit winners, that's nothing like what Murray played.

He started tennis late though? He might be another Wawrinka peaking in his late twenties.

I don't know about Kyle but I don't collect any Murray memorabilia. I don't even have a picture of him anywhere (except in my avatar on here). Just because he is my favourite player some people on here seem to have the impression I'm obsessed with him! ;)

Who would spend time watching him

My opinion was based off only where he is from

Probably not, but he gives the Brits hope.

And they need that.

He's got more powerful groundstrokes than murray but Edmund is a one trick pony. He's a power baseliner with a good first serve. Plenty of players like him on tour and even the best ones (Delpo, Berdych, Cilic) only go as far as becoming a one-Slam wonder tops.

Until he actually wins something I don't hold out any hope. Our only hope is for the recovery of the only player who has ever given us any hope within the last ten years!

Forehand is great and does a lot of damage. Movement is decent. Backhand is okay, not a weapon but wouldn’t call it a liability. He’s not winning slams but I see him reaching the top 10 maybe.

How many individuals on this forum are ATP ranked in the top 25 players in the world? These comments are like a Disney fiction movie with a Volks-
wagen Beetle judging a Ferrari! Oops, Disney already made that movie and the Vdub won.

I will stand with the Zen Master story from Charlie Wilson's War. You know, the 12 year old boy gets a horse for his birthday. Everyone in the village says, "how nice", the Zen Master says, "we'll see". At age 16 the boy falls of the horse and beaks his leg in 4 places. Everyone in the village says, "that's terrible". The Zen Master says, "we'll see". Two years later the boy's country goes to war and the boy is not called to the military because of his crippled leg. Everyone is the village says, "what a lucky boy, how nice for him". The Zen Master says, "we'll see".

Do you get the gist of the story? I do. As for Edmund's. We'll see!

I like him a lot and think he has the game to be top 10 and maybe sneak a big win but he has to improve the mental side.

He's a top 20 tennis player, what do you mean he will never amount to anything? He's already achieved things that many would kill for.

I’ve watched both a fair bit and I think Edmund edges Sock, more solid backhand and better first serve as the stats confirm. Def won’t win a GS singles, they have that in common.

I like Kyle, but he's clearly doing too much ''ball-bashing''!

People will probably mock me on here, but I see Karen Khachanov winning 2-3 Grand Slam titles in the next few years. Edmund is more of a passive player than Khachanov, but Kyle's forehand only does the talking to a limited extent.

He's not slam material without the draw playing out strongly in his favour but apart from that he's doing great considering how poor the UK tennis system is for finding and developing players.
