is that some kind of record on here? and i didn't even go into the matches forum, cos i'm sure she got bashed there, too.
i guess this is what an economist would call "market saturation."
calgon . . . take me away!

I'm sure she wasn't 100%, but she was hitting the ball fine, moving fine. The stomach probably just kept her from focusing on the match and finishing points. If it was really hurting her, how would getting off the court help at all? How about just expending less energy on the court. Slicing back shots, moving less...it would have been over in 20 minutes and Mauresmo could have had her moment.
Also...she's a little young to have menopause!

Not a bad point. But my reaction just feels different here. With Mauresmo (and Davenport), I just get annoyed/disappointed at the lack of mental strength. But JHH and the injuries--it just always seems like they come out at the most inopportune times for her opponents. And they *feel* strategic.West Coast Ace said:One more thing: think of all the quarterfinal and semifinal matches that you (and I) got ready to watch that involved Mauresmo, expecting a good match. Then Amelie came out and stunk up the joint. She's probably cost me a lot more wasted time than JHH throwing in the towel with 4 or 5 games to go.
BIGGS said:Bad mistake?!?! Get a grip. She quit in a championship game, no excuse for that.
Her stomach hurt and she didn't feel well? Then why did you stay through the awards ceremony, the press conference AND carry her own bags out to her car?
She could have finished the match, she just didn't want to. Her behavior shouldn't be tolerated. Period.
BIGGS said:What does that have to do with what JHH did?
West Coast Ace said:I believe arosen meant menstruation. Just another example that the spoiled little kids on this board will lash out at everything.
I'm pretty sure most of the bashing comes from those who will never forgive or forget the FO incident against Serena. They refuse to admit that it was a minor incident and Serena lost that day because she started spraying UEs all over the court and whining about every line call which got the French crowd to turn on her.

GrahamIsSuper said:This Nalbandian guy needs to be banned ASAP. His direct verbal assaults of other posters, calling them "mo-Ron Pikes", "jackasses", "idiots", "retards", "Dwarves", etc is embarrassing and offensive. His lack of courtesy is a shame to himself and it demeans the aura of kindness that used to, until his presence, maintain a rather steady hold over the boards. If anyone is with me in getting this kid banned for breaking rules and being a jerk to everyone, we need to make our voices heard.

Warriorroger said:You're right that you don't lose a match because of one point. What makes people mad (IMO), is how Henin deals with the issues in the postmatch interviews. Very calculated, even denying. She lied about RG, okay you get over that, but the way her interview went at the AO was again a big lie. I saw her saying the day before that she never felt as fit?

If JHH had at least admitted that Mauresmo was playing great, beating her despite the injury--rather than implying M was winning because of it--I'd have some sympathy for her.
The weight of JHH's history with these things warrants some (not all) of the outrage here.
progman_2000 said:Why do you keep making this about Serena & the FO Ace - you have some kind of weird hangup here? The fact is it is atrocious that JHH bailed instead of toughing it out for 4 more games. I too heard all the hype about both these women saying they felt they were in the best shape possible going into the match - and then to quit because of an upset stomach? These are professionals, right?
Dude, I think you're confusing me with someone else here. My syntax was perfectly fine, and I didn't even make several of the claims you respond to here (nor did I use the term 'tummy ache'). And besides, it's a cheap shot to comment on someone's language use if it's not a relevant part of the discussion.kosmikgroove said:If we are to bring history into judging what occured, then it's only fair to bring up her numerous matches in which she had fought from the brink of the match. Being down a set and a break is nothing compared to her epic battles with Davenport and Capriati. The USO '03 Semis was a titanic match trailing 3-5 in the second and 2-5 in the third. She cramped and still fought through without the trainer. To think after this that she quits because she has, what your poor syntax describes as a 'tummy ache' is asanine. She had severe gastro problems, which had to be in such magnitude for her to withdraw.
Btw, carrying tennis bags is nothing compared to competing in a match. i'd like you guys to try both and tell me which is more physically taxing. The only possible way some of you would be satisfied is if Justine had collapsed with a seizure or tanked the match. in which event im sure you could come up with some reason why she was cheating amelie and the fans out of a true final.
