ESPN - Coverage of US Open - Question

Some cable providers are having commercials saying ESPN may "go black" on Sept. 2nd due to a dispute with the contract. That is right in the middle of the US Open. If they don't settle the contract, does that mean the US Open will have no t.v. coverage?

Doesn't anyone care that there might not be coverage to US Open on ESPN? I thought this would be a big news story....since the US Open is one of the most popular sports. If ESPN doesn't settle the dispute by Sept. 2nd - those who depend on ESPN to view US Open won't be able to. Has anyone heard any updates on this?

No, man. Nobody in the US gives a **** about tennis. How do you think NBC gets away with the crappy coverage they provide. If they don't air it, I'll find it online.

This happens every year. CBS went as far as blacking out the internet feeds from the USTA last year too.

so this is just a Socal thing. figures. still I have trouble believing this won't be resolved before Sept 2, Time Warner actually blacking out ABC & ESPN sounds insane, esp since cable is losing so many customers these days.
