Fed at AO: Easiest Path to a Grand Slam Semi Ever?

I know it's not Federer's fault, but his draw in the AO has been profoundly easy. Here are the rankings of his opponents so far:
1st. Johnson, 75
2nd. Krajanovic, 41
3rd. Millman, 47
4th. Fucsovics, 67
Qtr: Sandgren, 100
Assuming Fed beats Sandgren, he would have made it to a GS semifinal without facing an opponent in the top 40. Has that ever happened before? Perhaps on the women's side where there seems to be more upsets. Of course, he will likely face Djokovic next and then a tough opponent in the final, but so far it's been borderline Challenger-level competition for him.

BTW I just checked and all of those guys have played Challengers over the last year. Also, I honestly want to know if this has ever happened before, someone making a GS semi without facing a top 40 opponent.

Considering there's been like 200 slams in the open era and there are 4 paths to the semis in each one of them, I'm willing to bet at some point there was one easier than this.
