Federers last two handshakes with nole

Im a big fed fan, he is my hero, but after the match yesterday and the one in paris it just bothers me the way he thanks his opponents when loosing. Yesterday and the match after paris he has been cold towards nole. When he wins he wants too hug and kiss all day long. Nadal is exactly the same to. Bad sportsman in that kind of way.

Djokovic is the only one acting the same when loosing and winning, always congratulates at the net and is very friendly.

I agree, Djokovic is the "best" loser out there, always very friendly, whether he wins or loses.

Feder in general seems to be a sore loser, but he can be very friendly after he loses. In his press conference afterwards, he mostly is a little more honest and can reflect on the loss, generally giving his opponent the credit.

Nadal -I think- is a little more friendly in his handshake after a loss, but he can be quite cold sometimes. But when he loses, he tends to be a bit negative about his opponent.

I guess Djokovic is the best loser of the three. he seems to have this sportsmanship notion about him, like when you watch a tennis video of the 60's where the loser always seemed to run towards the net to congratulate the winner in a warming way.

It's more than obvious Federer does not like losing to Djokovic, to put it mildly, and will never warm up to it. He tries his best to be sporty about it, give him that credit.

When the tables are turned, Djokovic is a far more gracious loser, whether or not it's sincere or for image, it doesn't matter. He shows a lot of respect to whoever can beat him.

Handshakes at net are fascinting to watch :)

Agree with OP. I used to be a fan of Federer & dislike Djokovic but the more I watch Djokovic in and out of the game, the more I like him. He always keep a positive attitude, much like Ronaldinho or Messi in soccer world. :)

Big respect for Djokovic he has matured into a great great champion. He's a fantastic ambassador for tennis, in ways that Federer and Nadal can't match.
They are all amazing champions and big credits for tennis.

The handshake is the only part of the match where Djokovic displays a positive attitude. He looks like the most miserable man on earth during competitive matches; the guy has a hard time controlling his frustration. Like right now in the Del Potro match. Djokovic missed a forehand long and starts screaming loudly in a fit of anger.

For me the question is did he use the shake hands grip. or did he go more SW? Don't tell me he shook Nole's hand continental, the sly old fox.

Overanalysis. People can be in better or worse moods depending on the day, the circumstances, etc.

Generally speaking, I think pretty much all the top players display good sportsmanship. I do agree that Djokovic seems to give the most friendly handshakes following losses. Good for him. But, I haven't seen anything bad from the others. They just don't look as happy after a loss.

Next we should have threads like

He really should consider hanging up the racquets.

But he'll try hang on until next Olympics.

Imho time for him to look after the twins and be a real dad now.

Because Federer doesn't respect those who have the audacity to beat him all the time.

Which is why he was so fond of Roddick and all of his other lapdogs

I sincerely prefer someone who says "Haha *** u I'm better u stinkin luzar" when he wins and acts like this when loses then shameless hypocrites like Nadal who are your best friend as long as they win comfortably and laud you but when a streak like 2011 against Nole comes he starts showing his real face.
I think Sampras - Agassi rivalry was much exciting, as much as I can remember, from when I was a kid, those two didn't overkiss they're butts and if they play an exhibition today they might still find a reason to poke the other one.

I agree that Djokovic is the most gracious in defeat (let's not call the guy a loser :) ). When Murray won the US Open, Murray was clearly in shock at what he had just acheived as a British player and for Novak to come around the net to where Murray was crouching in disbelief and to hug him and acknowledge what he had just acheived, I think it shows what a nice guy he is.

I think part of it may also be that Nadal, Murray and Djokovic have known each other since they were kids, whereas perhaps Federer was just in that age group before that came through, so doesn't quite have the same bond.

I think the other thing with Federer is that he has an in-built hatred of losing and is unable to accept defeat, which is why he is so successful.

Very true. The best "sportsman" among Fed, Rafa and Murray, though the Scot isn't too bad either.

One shows their true personality in loss. This is where Novak stands out to me.

Amen.

Can't understand why the Vamos-brigade don't see that. It's easy to act gracious when you're winning. Not so easy when you're losing.

And then the vamos-brigade say that Djokovic is just 'acting' nice when he's losing. They're missing the point. He is acting. The point is that he's nice enough to keep up the act. He probably wants to sprint off the court as fast as possible and hit a punching bag - that would be pretty natural when facing a tough loss. But he's nice enough to 'act' gracious in defeat, and show respect to his opponent despite his true feelings.

Fedal could learn a great deal from that.

They're both good at tennis and bad at being decent. Federer can't stand losing and is totally freaked out about being ugly, which I guess isn't as big a deal if he wins. Novak is a showboaty bi curious wuss who overcompensates with his over-the-top dumbassery and antics

OK you guys spoiled my match results. But does this mean Roger could go on to win at least 2 more Majors this year ???

The way I see it is, Federer is usually emotionally conservative during the match, he is visibly controlling his feelings. If any of you play any competitive tennis, youll know that this is hard to do. So I can imagine that when he loses in general, he is visibly disappointed because all that conscious effort controlling his emotions was wasted.

Federer thinks it's the natural order of things when he wins. When he loses the world is spinning off its axis and there should be no joy in it for anyone.

Can't understand why the Djerks can't see Novak is one of the worst winners of all time. We get it, your guy is awesome when he loses, yes.

I kinda agree.... wouldn't say he is the worst winner of all time, but there is a chasm of difference in his graciousness level after a huge loss vs a huge win. So it is not possible for me to commend one and not deride the other.
I found his AO 2012 final reaction to be over the top, checking himself out after ripping his shirt and beating his chest and roaring. LOL.

Some folks here think Rafa should learn from Novak on how to handle the loss, I think Rafa handles it just fine. A respectful handshake at the net while looking the opponent in the eye, that is all I expect from a good loser.

Win or lose, murray is great in this regard.

Nadal celebrates just as much as Djokovic does. The only reason MichaelNadal doesn't like Djokovic doing it is because he just doesn't like him period, especially if he celebrates in such a manner after beating his favourite. It's not exactly rocket science.

To add to his chagrin, he is a fan of Serena Williams who is cocky, arrogant, whiner and known for 'I will kill you' celebrations. Hypocrisy at its best. It is your username that hurt MN, the former Djokovic fan.

Nadal celebrates as much as djokovic, true. But the way they celebrate on court at the end of the match is very different. Nadal seems to be overwhelmed with emotion after a huge win , if it is the final he tears up. Djokovic is different, he has this angry face, I can't explain it.
My favourite djokovic post win reaction, US open 2010 semifinal, the arms outstretched glint in the eye. Wimbledon 2011 final as well.
