full poly suggestions for a Prestige Mid?

The Youtek Prestige Mid is apparently string sensitive. So keeping that in mind I am wondering who uses it with full poly. Here are the requirements I have :

17 gauge or less - the racquet pattern is real tight, so thin should be better.

Good tension maintenance - i want to get 8-12 hours of play if possible. The Prestige is one of the most consistant stringbeds I have hit with, and the closed pattern should help as well.

Feels good in the racquet - I'd like something that retains the plush feel of the stick.

Inexpensive if possible - I prefer 12 bucks or less if it all possible.

My style of play - semi western, 2 handed BH, do not care about spin factor since I can make any string spin. I like to string a little higher than lower to keep my serves in, but I think I can get away with 55 or under with the Prestige.

So far I am curious about Big Ace Micro. Seems like it could make sense in the Prestige. I am not sure how long it lasts though as a full job.

The other wildcard may be the Genesis Hexonic 18 gauge. I am definitley interested in that as well.

BAM or SP Hyperion 1.18. I've used those with great results in dense mid (BAM), or mid-plus (SPH), frames. SPH has better tension maintenance though, while BAM plays outstanding for the first few hours, and is almost half the cost. IIRC, I cut it out around 6-8 hours; it does drop tension a bit, but 6 hours for an $8 string if you string your own is decent. SPH though is a very nice, quality "feel" poly, which compliments an 18x20 superbly and holds tension with the best of them; perhaps the best I've tried.

Both are definitely plush when it comes to poly, while the Prestige Mid (although my experience is with the Prestige Tour 600, I've only demoed the YTs) is great with poly at 50-53 lbs.

Fits all the above.

But you can also try BAM, PLII 1.15, MSV Focus Hex, there are a lot of thin polys.

BAM and PLII 1.15 are pretty similar, IMO. Perform really well at the beginning and die quickly.

MSV Focus Hex 1.10 was stiff for me. But A lot of people like it.

Technifibre Black Code 17. Its 13 bucks, but if that is an issue you can hybrid it with Gosen micro 17, which is 3.75 (?). I use a prestige MP and the feel, control, and spin are really great. Its a bit low powered, but maybe thats because i strung at 58 lbs....Anyway, you should research more on this string if you're interested.

I use hyperion in all my frames now, I just pick the gauge depending on how dense the pattern is. Its the best poly out right now. You do not have to go super low tension to get pop and feel out of this string.

Well I used to play Typhoon wich is fine, but Spin X brought me A LOT of control.
If you will use Typhoon I would go higher instead of lower (tension), for it is really powerful.

well it feels pretty tinny to me. I don't know. Maybe its because I'm use to the solidness of a Microgel that the shifting stiffnesses(Yes I do believe d3o works) that's messing with me.

I logged about an hour and a half and got a far better hitting experience than with the demo stick I had before (Bab Excel 16 55#s- awful, horrible setup for Prestige). The Hexonic is in at 55#s and will probably drop to 50 or so. I want to see how long it goes for and how the playability is on my next outing. So far I experienced far more control, weight on shots and spin. Basically, the racquet played liked I expected it to when I bought it.

Strings to come :

Hyperion 18 gauge and Mosquite Bite.

I also plan to buy another prestige and hybrid it with Black5edge and Gosen Micro.

The hexonic is real good. It dropped 6 pounds of tension today per racquetune. I am hoping it holds steady at that or it may not be the string for me in this stick. I made about 6 straight UEs before getting control of it and then I was fine. I do remember the thicker gauge doing the same thing before it settled in, so we shall see how it goes tomorrow.

Ok, tension is about the same today..hit for another 2 hours. I feel like the playability may be going a little, but it is a tough call..may have just been me being a little worn out. I just remember wondering about my strings more than once and then I would a perfect slice or forehand and forget about it. So far the Hex is a nice 7.5/10 due to price and insanely plush feel on the sweetspot.

Big Hitter Silver in the mid 50's range is pretty solid in the prestige if you are looking for something thats not so expensive. Ive only used the 16 gauge but the 17 might be a bit more responsive.

I am trying to stay at 18 gauge, but I may try a 17. I know the Hexonic is gone. It just played very inconsistent tonight. I hit around 7 hours of play and while the string is not moving yet, it was real erratic. So I guess that is why the Hexonic is cheap..it will lose tension and then settle for another hour or 2 of play and then the playability is gone. It is better in the thicker gauge, but I don't think the thin gauge version is going to make the cut for me. Playability is gone way too fast. I am hoping this is not the case with the M Bite and Hyperion as well.

I just cut out the Genesis. Have another stick coming, so I am going to make this racquet my backup. Keeping that in mind, I will go with the Black5edge/Gosen hybrid at 56/58 next.

In all seriousness, we are very much in the same boat right now. I've been pondering string choice for my mids especially seeing as they are string sensitive. Tornado was just amazing and I am trying to fight the urge to try other strings. But with a TW order looming, it may be too difficult to say no.

Another cheap option that might be worth trying is Solinco Outlast. I finally strung it up(in a hybrid). It's not as thin as you seem to want, but it does feel fairly soft without being mushy. Pop is decent, and the best part, IT'S RED! It would look very clean in a Prestige. I'm not sure about tension maint yet, but I am impressed with the string.

I can't say it's my new favorite or anything, but it's definitly a decent poly. I'm still liking SPPP 17L more.

These all sound good, curious how you find them in the Mid.

Hyperion IME does last a long time. I've only tried MB as a cross, and it seemed to hold up well in that role. It is a very lively poly though, but if that's what you seek, should be great in the Mid too. Curious how those two compare.

Was not my experience with Tornado, granted I was using 17g. I got about 10 hours of really good play from it but even when it started dying it was still pretty good.

I still love Big Banger Ace in my mids. I string a lot tighter than most though (I string them at 60#, and the tension usually drops 4-5 lbs before I hit with it, and then it's stable there for a while).

I tried a lot of strings, but always struggled with consistency when I moved from the Ace to anything else.

Update on the Outlast: This Copoly is impressing me more and more. I'm at about the 10hr mark and it just doesn't seem to go dead and also hasn't gained that major trampoline effect. The crack of the string is quite loud, always enjoyable right! Yes, I'm attempting to encourage you to hit it. Price point is good, and I'm very intetested to hear how it plays in that small headed Prestige.

I also hit the 17g Hyperion a while back in my Rebel. Real good poly too IMO. I don't remember it having the same pop as Outlast, but I did hit in a closed pattern string bed. It's just priced a little high for me.

Preston, I actually have some Outlast coming, thanks for the suggestion. What tension do you string at? I am realizing that I need to string lower with the prestige mid..like 52 or less if I go full poly. I have been reading about poly stringing techniques and they are saying that unless you are on the pro level where you can restring every 3-6 hours of play, you should string the poly at no higher then 52.

I will try Outlast..hyperion, Mosquite Bite and if none do it for me, the tornado. The Outlast really sounds awesome..the pricepoint is kind of crazy though..makes me a little nervous since the Hexonic is cheap but loses playability pretty quick.

I strung it up at my normal tension of 55-57.

What are the facts behind not stringing polys above 52? I've tried tensions all over the place going as low as 40lbs, but anything below 50 was just unplayable for me.

Also, where did you pick up Mosquito Bite? This string sounds interesting to try.

I would push for you to try Kirshbaum Spiky Shark. It have played with a lot of different poly's and Spiky Shark is my favorite by far. I use a full poly set up and love the pop and feel I get from the string. Also, at $12/pack or $150/reel it's not that expensive
