Thinking of buying this string and I wonder what some thoughts are about it.
I curently use tecnifibre black codes. But want a cheaper string and i heard good things about genesis typhoon.

-Which string is stiffer?
-Which has better spin?
-Which has better tension matince?
-What other string is similar to Genesis typhoon?

Thanks for any imput.

There is nothing special about Typhoon. I like B5E better. Stringing Typhoon is like stringing with a stiff thin twisted wire. Not very pleasant.

I am thinking about trying out big hitter blue rough, volkl cyclone, solinco tour bite. Do these all have a similar feel?

Search. Typhoon is a great string. Haven't used Black Code in a while. Typhoon has a nice fairly soft feel for a poly. I like the ball pocketing effect it provides. Tension maintenance is good. Powerful, pretty good spin, good price, comfortable to hit with. Typhoon, Twisted Razor, and Barb Wire are three strings that I feel play similarly and are all great.

i agree with Pwned typhoon is great valued string. very powerful, good tension maintenance, and soft yet crisp. i have been playing with it for about 10 hours and it has dropped in tension but nothing extreme compared to other rpm or lux.

Just be warned this string is very powerful and very lively

When it comes to stringing Typhoon and Black Code, they're both similar. They're twisted, and doing crosses sucks. But Typhoon has more pop to it, and is a lot cheaper in reel form...

Out of those 3, which do you think is the BEST string ? if you are using 17 G. thanks:)

I think Barbwire is the only one that comes in 17. I thought it had worse tension maintenance. But I did really like the way it played.

I have been using RPM blast ever since it came out. but i may try the 17G barbwire and see if it is better. like better power and just as good of spin and control ???
Also if they all came in 17G, would you still say barbwire is the best ?

I would say Typhoon or Twisted Razor. But they are 16. Typhoon has more power than Barbwire. Or perhaps its the slight bit more of spin in Barbwire that makes it drop a bit shorter.

How do they compare to RPM blast ?? like in spin, power, and control ?

Power isn't that much of big issue with me since i hybrid it with X-1 biphase and X-1 provides the power so probably the spin and control is the main thing i am looking for. I may just try the Barbwire and see what happens. I also use the PHT time to time as well. Control is absolute Crap with PHT especially in higher tension like 64 lbs or so. have you tried the PHT in the past ?

A long time ago and only once. The twisted strings may eat your X-1 crosses. I like the control Typhoon and Barbwire provide. But it is the feel on contact I enjoy the most. That is why those strings I can switch between easily. I think they provide a very similar feel.

That is Exactly what i mean. with PHT, ball just Pops out of the string bed and it is very hard to control--- very little ball Pocketing effect, thus more difficult to control.
RPM blast actually has decent ball pocketing effect, that is why i think i prefer that. but if Barbwire or Typhoon can provide more power while giving a good feel on contact and ball pocketing then they are the IDEAL poly strings in spin Oriented polys.

Well I think you will like them then. They both get generally very good reviews.

This Comment from TW site worries me though.

Comments: I knew is was going to be trouble right after I opened the package, it literally SPRUNG open when I cut the tie. It's REALLY wiry. I expected more spin due to the sharp edges but, this was not the case. This string has ZERO pop, feels really dead and I strung it 4 lbs lower than my usual tension to gain some power back, but that didn't help much. (Note to the string makers, you aren't going to get much more spin if you don't have power, and this string has none.) I have tried many many different strings, and I prefer a firmer feeling poly, but this just is the opposite, it's not soft and its not firm, it's just DEAD. It felt like there was a rubberband tied to my racquet pulling it backwards, when I hit. RPM Blast has more spin than this string because it can sling shot the ball off the string bed, and the proper swing path will give the spin, Barb Wire, cannot do that. For what it's worth, Tour Bite is WAY better. You could theoretically call this a control string, but if you string it in a control racquet, your balls will land short, so you will have to make really loopy shots to get depth, in which case I would just step in, take your ball on the rise, and crush it.

You are always going to get differing opinions. I feel the opposite of him. I did not like Tour Bite and really preferred Barbwire. Find the threads about each string on here and get a general idea of the properties of each. Try out the strings that sound interesting and form your own opinion. It's only like $7. I think you'll find that most reviews on here for Typhoon give it good marks, especially for power. Maybe try it out even though it is 16.

IMO, Black Code plays like wet card board. dead and way overhyped.

typhoon is much livelier, better spin, power, tension maintenance, and better feeling overall.

I do agree with other posters though, that it is more of a pain to string up.

Also, it is less expensive.

Good luck.

That's the only reason I don't think I'm going to stick with Typhoon. It's a pain to string in a full bed, and when I used a hybrid, the Typhoon completely ripped through the synthetic crosses...

does typhoon become too powerful if strung in hybrid with multi string?

Just curious... Typhoon > BHBR > B5E > how would ppl say these strings differ? Which do ppl prefer ad why?

B5E>Typhoon>BHBR. I don't see the reason behind the hype for BHBR. It was average, and didn't stand out in anyway. I liked B5E and Typhoon equally, but B5E is easier to string...

...He must have accidentally strung up the string packaging. I have never once heard anyone call Typhoon very low powered, let alone dead feeling.

then what is the point of Hybrid ?? reason to hybrid is to get more power and feel from the Poly

The reason for hybrids was originally to eliminate some of the stiffness of harsh, first generation polys. Now people do it to get the spin from a poly while getting the feel from a softer string. You don't get much feel from a poly. That said, if you have a strong elbow, then try poly in a full bed. Using poly in a hybrid is somewhat of a waste unless you use a cheap synthetic, because other cross strings(Multis, Gut, ect.) will hold tension much longer than their poly counterparts...

I don't think a multi or gut combined with a poly is a waste especially to soften up the stringbed. Just because they hold tension longer does not mean they won't break first.

I think it depends. I use multi crosses sometimes, and I always end up cutting out the strings because the poly is dead. I understand, however, that others will have different experiences with strings...

I think they are pretty similar in terms of spin. I've used both on my YTPP, and I find that they both dip nicely.

The major difference between the two is that Typhoon has much more pop than SpinX. Because of this you get a more penetrating ball with the Typhoon.

does typhoon maintain tension well?
You could hang a truck over the side of a bridge with the stuff and it wouldn't even flinch. Signum Pro, WeissCANNON and Genesis have the best tension maintenance of any polys that I've seen (in that order). Curiously, they're all apparently made in the same factory, and yet, none of their offerings play alike. I guess the base processing just makes for astounding tension hold.

lol.. have to agree that it holds tension very well for a poly...

The Typhoon was a solid string for me. I do like Black Code better...but that just may be because it is A LOT easier to string than Typhoon. Opening up the Typhoon package was like opening up a Jack in a Box...everything just flew out. Not a pleasant string to string just because it is wire and out of control.

people say solinco tour bite and typhoon are similar.

No, they are nothing alike.

* Tour Bite (17 gauge) = stiff, bad for the arm
* Typhoon (blue) = fairly soft, relatively arm-friendly

* Tour Bite = smooth, buttery feel (but still bad for the arm)
* Typhoon = lots of bite

* Tour Bite = lots of spin, but it is the kind of spin that makes the ball sit up and allow your opponent to take a whack at it.
* Typhoon = lots of spin, but it penetrates the court.

* Tour Bite = easier to string, easier on the other string in a hybrid setup
* Typhoon = harder to string, harsher on the other string in a hybrid setup
