Has anyone personally strung 70+lbs?

Sampras, Roddick and Haas string their racquets over 70+ lbs. I really wonder how it feels to hit with that high of tension.

Can anyone share their experiences and why you string so high. Can you even notice a difference once you past 65lbs or so?

I string my Babolat VS Team at 70 lbs. Next time I will go for 72.

Gut is very comfortable even at such high tension.

The higher tension tames power and increases control.

I think Seles used to go over 100 lbs on her super oversize frame.

In my college days I kept my sticks strung at 70 - 72 lbs. I love the high tension for my forehand and serve but my backhand always suffered. But I mainly played dubs so I hit more forehands than backhands anyway.

Now that I am getting older and play less I string them at 60lbs. I find that I dont get after it like I used to you when I was younger and in shape.

I used to string an old Wilson 85 si ProStaff as high as 82 back in the early 80s. I felt as though I got more spin and control with it that tight and loved the pinging sound. No one else liked to hit with my racket.

Now I find I am on the other end of the scale. Last time I strung up my rackets I strung them at 52. The higher tensions are too boardy for me now.

In my junior days I used a POG OS strung around 73-75 with synthetic gut. With such a flexible racket and a large head it just didn't feel right below 70. The high tension stiffened up the string bed and lessened the trampoline feel. If anything I was more sensitive to changes in tension than I am now, but I was breaking strings so often that it was not much of an issue.

Later I switched to pro blend at 65 and got the firm feel I was looking for with much better durability. Then later yet I just switched to a mid-size head.

With todays rackets and strings I don't think there is a need to string at high tensions. There are enough options out there to find that feel in other ways (poly!)

I strung my kPS88s with PSGO at 72.

It's a little (perhaps a lot) too tight.

I typically like the boardy feel, but on that frame with plasticy strings, it's a little too much.

BTW - I used to string my Prince oversize rackets and PS85s tight.

Accidentally strung a couple of N95s with some Gamma synthetic gut at 72. I forgot to calibrate my machine, so even though it was set for 60, it came out as 72. I pulled these out when I wanted to have a little fun. Drop shots were insane with them, and a could wind up and take a huge cut at the ball without it going out.

I was thinking about putting my KPS88 around 65-70 or so. Hybrid poly and synthetic. Any KPS users done this other than VGP?
