Head Gravity pro or tour hybrid setup

Has any one tried a hybrid setup on the head Gravity pro or tour? Any idea what it might feel like and if it will work well with this racquet?

I am planning on stringing Gamma professional 17 in the mains and head hawk touch 18 in the cross ( only because these are the strings I have access to right now)

How will a 18g poly in the crosses with a 17g multi in the main? Or should I try the other way around? Any advantage/disadvantage of using a thinner gauge poly in the hybrid cross?

will the thinner poly bite into the mains and cause the strings to break sooner?

Not necessarily. If the hawk is very stiff then maybe a little bit notching . Otherwise if the hawk is slippery enough and has some pocketing it will be fine

Thanks guys, I went with a full bed of head hawk 18g at 55 lbs in one of my racquets and did a hybrid Gamma Professional 17g mains and Tourna black Zone 17g crosses at 55/53lbs. Happy with both the setups but like the softer feel of the hybrid better. I had Tourna blackzone 16g at 55 in the racquets when I bought them and like the full poly setup. Next I am going to try a full bed of Tourna Black Zone 17g. I think the black zone is a very good string comparable to Head Hawk at a much better price.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for in the stringbed. In my experience with hybriding polys, I've found that pairing a stiff, shaped main with a soft, round cross allows for access to spin with more durability due to slower rate of notching in the mains due to the soft crosses being less able to "saw" thru the stiffer mains. In my practice stick, I've been using a combo of Tour Bite 16L and Lynx 17 with a result of good spin, control, and durability with pretty decent feel/comfort as the Lynx softens up the string bed compared to a full bed of Tour Bite. I found that Head Hawk Touch performed well in a full bed, with good marks on spin, control, and feel despite being a bit on the stiffer side, but it did notch and cut thru itself fairly quickly compared to most other polys I've used. I am going to try using the Hawk Touch as a cross with Black Code 4S mains and see how that combo works out next.

After fiddling around with Hawk Touch, Silverstring and Pro Line Evolution, I’ve come to my preferred setup of FB YPTP 52-54#s.
I still have some strings to test on it (Tour Bite Soft, Ice Code, Alu Power, Hyper G, Legend/YPTP), but I don’t think my setup will change in the end...

So I broke the mains in hybrid setup today - Gamma professional 17, Tourna Black Zone 17 at 55/53.

I played one 3 set singles match and 2 2 set doubles matches with about 7 practice sessions. I think the setup had approximately 13 hours of play before the mains snapped. The strings felt good till the mains snapped. But it lasted only a week and I don't wanna be stringing my racquet every week or 2 weeks.

Any suggestions on what I can try to have a similar setup that will last me a bit longer or should I just accept the fact that 13 hours of play is decent durability for this combo.

I am assuming the recommendation is to cut Polys at about 10 to 15 hours of play as well? I am thinking of going full poly to help the strings last longer. But worried that it will cause arm issues if I keep using poly after 15 hours of play

I tried Solinco Hyper G at 54 lbs and it felt great for the first 10 - 13 hours and then it started getting stuck quite a bit and felt pretty harsh. I played another 2 hours with it and never felt comfortable. So cut it this meeting and strung my racquet with the Yonex Poly Tour Pro 17g @45 lbs. This is the first time I am trying a tension before 50lbs and looking forward to test this setup. Anything I need to work/focus on in my game when playing with a low tension like 45lbs ?

Side note: I strung a Angell K7 lime with Solinco hyper g at 40lbs since a friend wanted to try it at a low tension. We both found the setup very plush with a lot of access to controlled power. This is what encouraged me to try 45lbs on the gravity tour.

I have a Gravity Pro and the Tour. I have a history of arm problems so I always use gut/poly set up. In my Tour I’m using Vs Team/Alu rough 55/52lbs. Good feel and plenty of pop when you swing out. I haven’t modified the racquet yet, probably bring it up to 310g.
In the Pro I tried Element in the mains and Gut in the crosses, just to try it. It offers a ton of control but really don’t get the benefits of the gut, so I’ll switch them out soon. Slice was great though.

How long do these setups last for you? Which one do you like in general, Pro or Tour?

You could try the reverse and use the multiflament in the crosses . I am trying this out with my speed pro 18x20 with a softer copoly in mains , will let you know what I find out

So I’m not a string breaker, play twice a week for about 2 hours. I’m re-stinging about once every 10-12 weeks.

The tour set up def has more power with the gut in the mains and I prefer it.

I have tried this setup in a head radical mpa and RF97a. Feels good initially but the poly mains stop moving once the multi crosses get notched by the poly. I have seen a lot of people recommend this setup along with the poly/syngut setup but having a hard time understanding how this setup works since the poly mains will stop moving. May be there is a trick with having different tension on mains/crosses?

Wow. That's great durability. I have tried natural gut/multi mains and poly crosses with similar tension as yours in 3 different racquets. None have lasted me more than 15 hours.

You seem to get 3x more time with the setup than me. That's great. I am just curious what's your style of play. I hit with a lot of topspin and may be that's why I break multis in 15 hours. I have never broken syngut or poly.

Mix of flat and spin, but def no spin monster. I’m actually trying to add more spin to my game.

So I have been happy with Tourna black zone 17 mains and Gosen OG sheep 17 cross at 54/54lbs. The Gosen syn gut seems very durable in the sense that I haven't noticed any notching after 12 to 15 hours of play where a Multi cross would be on the verge of breaking.

I have added about 17 grams to the handle (leather grip, overgrip and polyfil) and about 1.5 grams at 12 and 1.5grams at 10,2. The balance is currently at 4 points headlight. Racquet feels really solid on grounstrokes but feels a bit slower on the serves. Hoping to get used to the weight for serves since I love this setup on groundstrokes. Any suggestions on what I can change in my setup to help with my serves keeping the feel on groundies similar to what I have right now?

How much weight have others added to their Gravity Tour Setup?

So I have been playing with the Poly mains 17( continued playing with Black zone and now tried Kirschbaum spiky shark last 2 string jobs) and Gosen OG sheep 17 crosses and have been happy with the setup. The OG sheep is great for the crosses but I feel that they lose tension and start getting stuck about 12 to 15 hours of play. I don’t think this should be an issue given the polys will be dead anyway by this time. But given that I have not broken this setup even once and had to cut the strings at about 15 hours each time, should I try syn gut / poly setup instead? The only strings I have broken so far are multi and natural gut mains/crosses in about 15 hours

You should absolutely do this. The limiting parameter on spin is always the cross string creating too much friction.

Ok. Will give this a shot in my next string job. Hopefully this week. Am I better off with multi in the mains instead though? I am worried about the OG sheep losing tension in a few hours on the mains and becoming a launch pad. I can actually feel the tension loss after the 10 hours mark but able to manage another 3-5 hours before it becomes unplayable

10 hours of playability is fantastic for tennis at higher levels.

I am thinking of doing Cyclone 18g at 52lbs on mains and Power Fibre II 17g at 56lbs on crosses on my Gravity Pro. Thoughts?

Did you ever switch to syn mains and poly crosses?

I actually use cyclone tour 17 mains at 46 and babolat syn 17 at48 and I m missing a little spin and power.

I was thinking changing the cyclone tour for 18 gauge and see if I get more spin.

But never crossed my mind to use synthetic mains and poly crosses.

My gravity tour is a pro stock at 324 unstrung, lots of lead at 12 , at 3/9 and silicon in the handle.
