Head Gravity

This is not a power line at all. Very consistent string bed. Not sure what this "massive G-spot" tech is all about. When I hit in the sweetspot, I could really feel the ball sink into the frame like an ultra tour or prestige mp. Unusual for a lighter frame. I was never over hitting and could swing out of every shot. I can see good players flocking to this line. I hate Head, but good job Head.

The Head Gravity is a player's stick.

[edited comments]

[the pro is very flexible and thin beam 20mm], agree, no put away power with a flat shot without lots of work, it lacks mass on its own
this racquet is screaming for spin!! [both mp and pro]
[both mp and pro] even though its a 100", it was easy enough and fast enough to work with the 1hbh,, i personally did not struggle bringing the 100" around the ball

As a 95 user, this frame does not feel like a big clunky 100. The string bed is surprisingly responsive and consistent. More precise that recent Yonex 98s

You just got my hopes up but will be cynical until I try it. How is the head shape? (round, oval... hard to tell in the pics)

Not sure of the specs. I don’t recall reading anything about an S model. This is the one that came to our club the other day.

So it's confirmed for a fact then that the 16x20 model (mp) is 22mm thick? People were originally saying the mp was 20 mm.

I just had a had a hit with the prototype mp strung in polyester and yes it's quite a lusty frame however it still can't get away from its contemporary graphene like feel. It doesn't have that solid feel of an old prestige not just because it's light compared to what I normally like but more to do with the material in the frame. I do like the look of the frame and would like to see how it would go with a bed of multi filament or gut. I would say that the Prince Phantom pro is a better frame.

I believe this is correct from what I remember on the demo that I tried last night. It wasn't horrible, but I felt too much hoop harshness even though it was soft.

Too bad. The only way Head beats the RA numbers is making a weak throat but harsh everywhere else.

You have to wonder if that has been their plan all along with the Graphene process - just to beat the flex ratings.

I need to fetch my tinfoil hat lol

I hit with the MP the other day. Felt really nice when contacting the ball. Pretty muted, lots of control. The MP is a little light in stock form but none the less it still swung pretty nice.

Same here. I thought it felt a little rough in the upper hoop but was clean in the sweet spot and it definitely needed a bit of weight. I think there's a lot of potential for it to come alive with a bit of lead.

A pro at my club had the MP today, I got to hit with it for a bit. It’s very similar to the speed but it has an extra ~5g in the head, bringing up the balance point and SW. I really liked it, it had nice plow through and felt super maneuverable. It’s the first racquet in a while I could see myself switching to.

I have spent some more time with the Gravity MP now and i use it in stock form (unstrung weight 294.9 grams and balance 32.6 cm) strung with Hawk touch at 21 kg. Compared to Clash Tour it has zero string movement, and by movement i mean that in the Clash Tour the strings move all over the place and stays in that non original position. With Gravity MP, the strings snaps back perfect in place. It is also a beautiful racquet to serve with and it feels solid and , well, good overall. Normally o would add a leather grip, lead at 3 and 9 and some silicone so the weight would be around 315 grams with a 31.5 cm balance and i will try this soon with this frame. But it is without a doubt a frame i could start use in tournaments. Only "problem" is it will take a month more before i can buy these frames and have to use just the one Gravity i have so far.

Sounds like you are gravitating towards this frame :)

Why is this racquet so hotly anticipated? Will it be flexible and pro stock like (55-58RA)? If not, it looks like any other stiff Head frame.

It feels more pro-stock then the recent Head frames. It also creates a different sound when you strike the ball. I will make same mods as some "other" Head frames I have in my possession and see how it feels, but yes, it is different in the flex/feel from the other Head frames on the market.

So would you say it’s closer to the Wilson Ultra Tour?

Ultra Tour is very low powered and imo a racquet that is pretty demanding. The new Gravity is easier to generate power with. Bigger sweetspot compared to Ultra Tour. Then on the other hand, the Ultra Tour is a pretty dense 18/20 pattern and the Gravity is a pretty open 16/19 and that makes a huge different. I would love to see a Ultra Tour 16/19 frame. That could be holy grail alert!

I have had some elbow issues in the past (golfers elbow) and that makes my poor elbow still sensitive. So far i have absolutely zero issues with Gravity in elbow-pain.

the gravity pro really interests me more due to the heavier swingweight. i just dont seem to get along with sub-325ish swingweights

good description of both, and I agree
I would add to your description differences that the w.ultra.tour is a 98" vs the h.gravity.pro 100"
but yes, h.gravity.pro is a bit more powerful and a bit more spin, the 2" difference does give it that edge imo!!
w.ultra.tour I would give more flex, very buttery feel
control are both about even, with both having the 18/20 patterns
the h.gravity.pro does better with polys, the w.ultra.tour imo works better with more powerfull strings
the h.gravity.pro can be good in stock form, very little mods needed,, the w.ultra.tour needs a lot of modification 4me..

Maybe because they want to attract so the new customers as existing Head customers and sell N + 1 racquet. They want to convince us that we need a new racket every year. Every new racquet is slightly:) better than the previous one according to marketing brochures.

In all these years, there have been so many improvements that I do not even have to play tennis any more, the racquet does everything on its own. Now I need only the right shoes to improve my foorwork.

I'm pretty sure if you owned a company that made things you would try to keep making your things better and selling some products. Should there slogan be "we have good rackets, we don't need to change anything so we don't even do research into new products?" I don't let marketing sway me into my purchases; but tennis is my sport and I like trying new things and buying new stuff. However, I think the rackets coming out the last 5 years have been horrific. No feel. No feedback. Stiff. Light. There is a reason the pros play with prostock sticks that are very different from the commercial ones.

The solution would be to offer classic rackets. They have the mold and the materials... just release them as "heritage" or "classic" lines instead of crapping on what brought you customers in the first place.

The alternative being chasing away that 30% of your customers that liked your **** now you have to get 30% of NEW customers on board.

Yes having old Prestiges still on sale would eat into new Prestige sales... but would you rather sell 10,000 old Prestiges and 2,000 new Prestiges... or only sell 3-4,000 new Prestiges?

They don't have to... and HEAD will be fine if they don't. But Yonex didnt get as big as they are by radically (heh) changing everything year after year. At least Yonex still has the balls to sell a frame thats 330g unstrung. Will it be a big seller? Probably not... but the ones who do want it get it. HEAD dropped anything over 11.1 from all but their Prestige lines.

Rant over

Yep, myself and others suggested just that many months ago; apparently it was too obvious for Head.

How do you compare it to the extreme pro or mp?

No similarity what so ever between gravity and the new Extremes. Gravity is more of a players frame that is easier to use as and swing. It is demanding but if you do the work of swing through properly you get amply rewarded.

For me and my game, this frame is at the moment perfect and that in stock form..

Anyone knows if Head Gravity is foam filled? Zverev's pro stock is foam filled.

If not, i would rather get an Angell than Head.

^^^Head is not going to release Zverev’s actual racquet to the public. It sounds like an IG Speed.

Does anyone know whether the old Head Youtek IG Speed racquets were true 100si or smaller (ala 98si Prestiges being closer to 95si)?

Sorry for diversion from Gravity racquets...

Considering how round they were I doubt they were smaller.

Thanks for your reply. The reason I was asking is that the specs of the Head Youtek IG Speed MP 300 look very close to the Gravity racquets, however, the RA is lower at 60, the beam is a thin 20mm (same as Gravity Pro), and the price is going to be significantly lower than what I suspect they will attempt to charge for the new sexy and very special Gravity racquets... So, I bought one :sneaky::rolleyes::censored:

With some easy and simple modifications... it may even be better...:giggle:;)

When I wear it out in a couple of years... I'll be ready to buy one of the Gravity racquets (on sale) as they look very nice.

I've been considering that model as I know it's still available... I'm afraid of the head shape on my one hander. I have a client who plays with them, they do feel like they cut through the air extremely well for a 100". That being said these days I prefer stiffer frames than RA 60. If you want DM me how that racket goes for you!

Will do... I was thinking it could be the racquet I use for doubles. It's coming from Canada (and I'm in Australia) so it may take some time before it arrives. On previous occasions, it's taken 4 weeks for items to arrive. Let's hope that's not the case this time around.

I'm also concerned about the OHBH performance and the possibility of it being more clunky on that side. That, however, would be the issue with both the Gravity and the Youtek IG Speed. The last 100si racquet I had was the Pure Drive Roddick and I had issues with the topspin OHBH (and therefore used to slice more on that side unless I had lots of time to set up), but I'm hoping the 20mm beam might make the YIG Speed feel more maneuverable.

Its crazy how Head has gone full circle back to the IG series with a new pj.

The reviews I've read and listened to all mention how the feel of the Gravity racquets is solid and old-school like. The thing I'm not sure about is whether the Youtek IG Speed model might feel more hollow. I know that some reviewers of the Youtek IG Radical line mentioned that without a dampener, even though the hit was plush and stable, the sound may have been more hollow. For that reason, they recommended the use of a dampener which made the racquet feel more old-school solid and muted.

We'll see... I use a rubber band on my racquets anyway... so it's probably a non-issue either way.

Actually i think Head are trying to look at getting some of us fans of the Pro Tour/Prestige classic, twaron frames , back into the fold
