How can Nadal be respected as number one if he can't play on hardcourts...

Well these last 2 losses didn't happen with the #1 ranking, so... Hope he doesn't do some kind of 8-4 finish to the season.

I mean like I said in another thread..Murray has been #1 all year. And done absolutely nothing. At least Rafa has had a great year, and up until this point, I have no problem with him holding #1 for putting his body through a lot more than Federer..granted, he has that luxury being younger (to a smaller degree though cuz he does play a violent style).

If we weren't upset about #1 when Murray was there doing nothing, we shouldn't be now. There's A LOT of tennis left before the year ends. Innumerable opportunities for Fed and Nadal.

I would still respect Nadal even though he's probably not doing super well...but heck, got out from injury, finals of OZ open, Won FO and quite deep run on many tournaments.

This was not a suprise its a pattern mostly. Its always sorta been. He has moments he breaks through but never could put ya money on him unless he makes a semi or final. He could fool us all and win the US open

He must win US OPEN to deserve number one ranking
Well, he lost last week to an 18 year old challenger player who has a career record on the ATP of 7-8. Tonight he was absolutely blown off the court by someone who tanks more often than he plays and who trains on Twinkies and Fosters Lager.

Nadal's chances at the USO are extremely low. Playing like he's been playing, he could even lose to guys like RBA or Tsonga.

Oh come on he's made an HC slam final with the other still to play. That's not bad.

Can't play well on hardcourts..... 3 games away from AO win. Made final of Acapulco and Miami......
You did also just say that he is done in your other thread though.

Losing to kyrgios isn't a bad loss. He always plays well against top opponents it's lesser opponents and outside courts he doesn't try.

That doesn't mean he doesn't deserve number 1 because he has had a great year up until now.

If he doesn't play well at USO he will only have number 1 a few weeks if fed performs well.
I'm personally hoping for a Fedal final.

Both young and in the beginning of their careers when they first met - they meet again thirteen years later, now as the elders of the tour, the seasoned veterans of their craft, and the two greatest players the world has ever seen.

In between these two encounters: The greatest rivalry ever, with both players giving it their best and defying expecation at the times when it's least expected.

Now, with every other top player having fallen by the wayside, beaten the the challenge of the sport - who is left?

Federer and Nadal. The Master and the Warrior.
The last men standing.

Finally, for the first time, in New York.
Federer with the chance of becoming the undisputed champion of champions at the US Open.

In his way: The greatest he has ever faced. His oldest and toughest rival.
Fighting each other until the end, and in the end, losing only to the other.

I need this in my life.

Nadal has always struggled in the north American hard court bar 2008, 2013 , nothing new here

But he could still be competitive in new York just like he has shown in the past

I'd love to see this but I don't think Rafa will make the final. I don't think Fed will either but he has a better chance than rafa. We got screwed out of the final when fed had match point against djoker and djoker hit an insane shot for a winner. we were 1" from seeing the Fedal final at USO.

Who do you think will take out Rafa and Fed then?
Just the field? Rafa might lose early, but I don't think Fed gets taken out by a nobody. He almost never loses to nobodies in slams (I think it's only happened 1-2 times in years). I think Fed would have to be taken out by a dangerman like Tsonga if he was going down to anyone other than Nadal in the final.

Does Fed get the #2 seed for the USO?
He really should. Murray has done absolutely nothing to deserve it other than technically not pulling out of the event. He should probably just stay home and rest rather than get owned by any top 20 who happens to wake up on the right side of the bed.

Forget two year rankings, I say we bring in six month rankings. Murrovic have no business in the Top 10 at present.

I can right now resurrect at least TWENTY Threads about how bad nadal is, was, finnished, done, should retire, a joke, etc but EVERY TIME he's come back like the Champion he is to make the haters eat their words.

Actually Nadal has done pretty well upto FO without a doubt.
He surely deserves his ascendency to No.1 without a doubt.

However it is also true that he has not won anything off clay for a very long period of time.
Anyway still a long way to go & lot of things could happen.

When did he come back after 2014? You mean this 4 tournaments on clay this year when Federer didn't even play? Stop making a joke of yourself. After RG it was clear Nadal will not win anything else this year.
