I know it's a bit dumb to put it all down to one match, but I really think it's very significant now that Djokovic is a gigantic threat on any surface whenever when he's near top form. Murray 2.0 is untested against Nadal in slams but I think he can beat him on hardcourts. I don't think even Nadal can dominate the French for the next 4 more years.

it helps. he will have 12 which puts him 5 away plus its a non djoker final whichshould be easier plus he will decline sooner or later. he has to get as many as he can in the next 3 years.

I voted for "No, this match doesn't have that sort of signifance." See, if Rafa doesn't beat Murray, Djokovic, Federer, Del Potro, Ferrer, Rosol, and Laver in a slam, it has a huge asterisk, and ought not be counted towards his slam total.

He'll have 14, 3 fewer than Federer

If I had to guess now it would be Nadal breaking Federer's record with his 18th at either the 2015 French or 2015 U.S Open. I think he wins today, the 2015 French, 1 or 2 out of the 3 slams after that, and the 2015 French.

if he stays healthy he will do it. If he has six month layoff who knows. I think he has three more french opens left in him.

Probably, but he definitely has some more non French Opens on top of the probably 3 or 4 more French Opens. If he wins tonight it will be his 2nd straight hard court slam, does anyone seriously think he wont win others if he wins today. One could easily argue he has overtaken Djokovic as being the best hard court player right now, and the player to beat on the surface. If he gets his grass game back together he is also the easy favorite given the current field there, but that is a huge if at this point.

his dominance at the french is just ridiculous. we will never see anything like it again at any tournament.

Muster was indeed an animal for a couple of years but Nadal has been Mustering the claycourts for what seems like a decade

I still think he will get the record even now. My guess would be something like:

1 future Australian Open
3 or 4 future French Opens
1 future Wimbledon
1 future U.S Open (maybe 2, I think he loves this slam)
