How much do you have to pay for your court time per hour on average? The price you pay can alter during the year, e.g. playing indoors during the winter can be more costly than playing outdoors during the summer. To keep the figures comparable, please estimate the cost of one hour of court time you pay, averaged over the whole year.

And please estimate the price you pay for yourself only, not the price of the whole court. So if you mainly play doubles, the price you pay should be half that of the price of the players who play singles.

For non-US residents: Please estimate the prices you pay for one hour of court time and a PRO quality racquet, e.g. Wilson Prostaff, Head Prestige/Radical etc. in your local currency. Then assuming that the price of the racquet was $200, calculate the price of your court time normalized against this assumption.

Example: Racquet costs 4000, and court time costs 100, the normalized price is

(100/4000) * $200 = $5

I pay nothing at the courts near my house in the summer.

In the winter, I normally play at the University with college students. Their rate is $8 for the court.

Your idea of averaging is stupid. If I were to do this, I'd have to say that I play outdoors 8 of 12 months. I also play more hours in the summer than in the winter, so my average would have to include that, etc.

Using this method, I'd probably come up with a cost of about $1.50 per hour or something (or less), which is really pretty meaningless.

As many hours as I want 365 days a year for 120 a year.

The method is not stupid. Your just a lucky fellow! I play indoors for 7-8 months, and I have to pay $20-30 per court indoors. Then I play some doubles, so my average is about $10 or even more!

I mostly play public courts in parks and at schools which are free if you can find them open.

They aren't really free as my tax dollars go to pay for building them and upkeep, but since most of the taxpayers do not use the courts they are well subsidized.

I also pay more in housing costs because I live in an area with one of the best climates in the world for humans. For example, I could have played today without wearing a shirt if I wanted to get a tan. It was in the 70s F when I was on the courts.

Indoor time costs $44/hour here. That's expensive isn't it? It's not like I live in NYC. Outdoor courts are free.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I wish I could get indoor court time for that price. Where's your facility?

Its outdoor! I wish I could play indoor though, playing with heavy tennis balls in the rain and wind is no fun.

Good to have you back MMI, I kinda wondered when you would resurface. You are one entertaining dude

And it varies a lot here. Average indoor court time here is expensive, probably around $25/hr unless you have a membership to a club (which is also pricey)

NLB Well, if you're reading this please correct me if I'm wrong. Most of the indoor time I get is from tournaments...

He tells me he's not MMI. Apparently I still owe him an apology for calling him MMI. Don't "throw around accusations" (his words, not mine), or you may owe him an apology too. :)

In Southern California I can play outdoors for free pretty much year round.:)

You have no idea how jealous I am. As soon as I graduate I am booking it over to California. I've only been to San Diego once for vacation but it was the best two weeks of my life. Great tennis, girls, weather... It was great. You guys have skiing too, so you have the best of both worlds

As I said, he is one entertaining dude :) It's quite easy to see through his gig

$36 an hour. Divide by however many are playing.

For me, my indoor costs are 60$ a month unlimited use per month. It's just difficult to get courts during "prime time hours" for booking.

$0 here on some public courts, rest is $1 per hour. $1 for lights on some public courts per hour.

No indoor public courts that I know of here. Must be member of country club for that.

$10 per paycheck = $240/year. Unlimited Tennis and full gym (indoor pool, etc). Three newly resurfaced blue HC with (so-so) lights.
Probably put over 300 hours this year (was out of the country approximately 16-18 weeks this year).
During the cold days (I hate playing outside when below 50-55) playing indoor PGA Superstore courts for $30/hr (!!!) but have a 50% off discount.
