You made the same joke in a thread that was deleted. You know you did it. Of course I can't prove it now. Doesn't matter because you and I both know. Like I said, carry on. It's a shame because you're a smart guy and make a lot of good posts, but I see through it. We can agree to not respond to each other moving forward if you so wish.

I'm sure Roger would prefer every one of his fans to be a chill guy who just enjoys the game like @MeatTornado rather than a Fed police like you who lives vicariously through him, takes himself too seriously and thinks he's an authority on who's a real fan and who's not. I honestly think if Fed read ttw, you'd make him cringe.

Don't care for your approval either. You're just another fence straddler. Be gone. I'll have you know that he has tried to police me which is the only reason I'm returning the favor. Policing for 2011 USO. Apparently Federer winning it in the absence of Djokovic was against his religion and he let me know that. Then again, I wouldn't expect you to be paying attention to anything worth a damn.

Source? Because I can find 20 quotes from him which contradict this entirely.

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/tennis/federer-fears-slower-courts-will-harm-game-2346390.html

https://www.perfect-tennis.com/roger-federer-wants-faster-courts-and-so-do-i/

Fed said in 2005, "Slow courts favor point construction, but make it impossible to hit through an opponent and hit winners." There's no way Fed wanted the tour slowed down in his peak 2003-2007 years. Nadal benefitted from slower courts, not Fed.

Thank you, that should shut the haters up.

Amusing that they continue to pretend that Federer preferred slow court when he wants the tour to speed them up while Djokodal are having a field day with surface and homogenization.

Fed would have won zero titles. He didn't win any titles before Wimbledon changed the grass.

The actual speed and bounce really say it all.

And btw, grass was still fast in the early 2000 and serve and volley was still a recipe for success.

BBC overlaid two serves by Roger Federer, one in 2003, the other in 2008, both at 126 MPH on a similar line of flight. The 2008 serve goes 9 mph hour slower, after the bounce, than the 2003 serve, or 20% slower. The ball also bounces perhaps a foot higher.

This is a tremendous advantage for the returner: The ball is slower, arrives later and sits up.

Despite Federer had to adapt to this unfavorable grass condition in the later years, he was still capable of dominating the grass season.
There's no doubt that Federer would have dominated more had the grass continue to play like in 2003.

There's a difference in disagreeing about something and flaming Fed fans every chance you get. That's what I see on this page. Nothing but trash from you and the backhand guy.

The problem is you're seeing what you want to see. I objected to Federer fans claiming he is undisputed on fast grass. That is hardly hateful.

@MeatTornado is perhaps the most sensible Federer fan on this forum but you're even objecting to his posts now. You need to take off you rose tinted glasses and things will appear different.

Thing is, if 2002 was played on fast grass, he would have faced Krajicek (who lost to Malisse in a close 5-set match in real life), or even Sampras again, in the final. He would have lost. Meanwhile, Hewitt might have went down against Escude again.

As for 2003, yeah, he would have made it through Grosjean.

2004, unlikely, since Ancic was also a serve-and-volleyer.

Agree with all, except Ancic. Faster conditions give Henman the edge in that one.

Well said.

Time and again, the facts have been presented--that Federer won his Wimbledon titles in a period where the game/surface was slowed down, and his most of his generation of opponents were largely one-dimensional baseliners also accustomed to the same conditons. None of them would be much of a challenge on 80s/90s grass (if it existed in the period where Federer won his titles), and it certainly would not have happened against those who had the natural game to excel with the conditions of that era.

Great post, fully agreed! When a Federer fan attacks @MeatTornado, you know he's well and truly lost it.

LOL. Didn't you say I only choose to see what I want? That's exactly what you're doing or "appear" to be doing. He attacked me first days ago and then again in my own thread after that. I owed him one therefore he received it. Stop instigating. I'm moving on from it and I assume that he will do the same now.

Couple of passive-aggressive loudmouths addressed in succinct fashion in this thread.

I'd imagine they'll re-think spouting off next time the thought crosses their minds.

Sorry Machan, there are far too many threads and posts to read here. I wasn't aware that he attacked you first. Alright, all's fair then :D

Contrary to the hilarious revisionism that Wimbledon played fast in 2003, Federer never won a single title on fast grass. Nonetheless, I think he'd manage one in the 90s, and probably 3 or 4 if it took place in his own time. Henman, Roddick, and the mighty Grosjean would have had their share of glory days, and heck even Philippousis might nick a slam. Hell, Pete might even stay on the tour another couple years to get himself #8. Suffice to say, there'd be quite a line around the Trophy with fast grass in the 00's.

yeah, no one said that, atleast no one sane. Just faster than in the years after that.
That guy is a crazy delusional fed hater who makes up stuff to compensate for his fed hate.

According to the BBC, they found out that Wimbledon 2003 was faster and the ball bounce lower than in 2008

Well, that is acceptable. @abmk already clarified it for me. I thought the general impression was that 2003 was as fast as the previous years but I was mistaken.

I'm surprised to hear from you though that 2003 was faster and higher bouncing than 2008. I'm not so technical so I'll look to @abmk to clarify how that's possible. I was under the impression that slow grass provided higher bounce, not the other way.

I'm pretty sure he meant to type faster and lower bouncing.

Of course not.

Revisionism, indeed. That's all you will get from the Federer fanatics still falling to their knees, trying to lift their tin god with lies about how "fast" 2003 grass was, along with coughing up endless threads listing trivia as credits to call Federer soem imagined GOAT (and still attacking Nadal and Djokovic). You are witnessing the full-on psychological breakdown of those who drowned in idolatry for so long.

Providing Federer does not have to serve for championship up 40-15, he would have won all Wimbledons he entered.

Didn't he have a 40-15 lead in the final game of at least one of the 8 championships he won? o_O Surely he did in at least one of them?!

I normally remember TTW users quoting my messages, but in your case, I will be glad to make an exception.
I'm curious as to your method for achieving selective memory loss for my quotes? Perhaps continuing to mash your head against the keyboard will suffice? It's been doing a grand job of suppressing any widespread recollection of your own.

Good Question.

I would say somewhere between 11-14 Wimbledons in a period of 20 years from 2001-2020 had the courts been like the 90s.

We would have witnessed Rafael Nadal's clay like Dominance replicated on Grass by Roger Federer.

TTW thinks players from 30-40 years ago would magically adapt to modern tennis tech and surfaces with only a couple of weeks of training. Meanwhile TTW insists that Djokovic would be lost forever if only the surface of Wimbledon would be faster.

hypothetical Federer never loses.

Roddick would have been playing until late 2010s if the surfaces remained fast

Poor guy suffered the most due to the corrupt slowing down of wimbledon and making it a disgusting ping pong competition, real grass is supposed to have big serves, net rushing ...... not a ping pong competition with balls bouncing everywhere during rallies

I keep hearing this dribble about servebots dominating on fast grass at Wimbledon and it's simply not true. The ONLY big server who didn't have an All Time Great net game to win Wimbledon in the Open Era was Ivanisevic. It took him 14 tries and he still had a better net game than every player who has won it since, bar one.

Sampras had an amazing serve, but he also had an exceptional net game and groundstrokes that are infinitely better than the current Wimbledon champ's net game. Same goes for Krajicek, Stich, Edberg and Becker. Actually, Edberg didn't have a booming serve, but he and Cash had even next level net games, maybe even as good as Medvedev.

What we see now at Wimbledon is one dimensional baseline botting, plus a few pure servebots (Raonic, Berrettini, Opelka, Isner, Querrey), so all that has been gotten rid of is net play. As Federer is almost the only player on tour who still has a full array of skills in that area, he'd clean up on fast grass.

good post but what do you mean by Edberg and Cash being almost as good at the net as Medvedev?
