Dinara Safina comes to mind, and Ostapenko could follow although I see her steadying herself in at least the top-50.

I mean yea I guess. I can't argue they dropped fast. Safina for all her critics won a bunch of tournaments and I think she collapsed with injuries. And yes Ostapenko isn't great but she hasn't totally collapsed like you said.

Safina? She was a Top 20 player for 5 years and Nr 1, and her rise was not spectacular at all. She slowly moved herself towards the top. Her injuries were quite unfortunate. She didn't decline, she stopped play tennis altogether in 2011. With Ostapenko you just can't tell. She had partially decent results since her RG title (1/2 and 1/4 at Wimbledon, a couple of minor WTA titles) and is still too young.

I've just noticed, Bouchard (wrist?) has just been replaced with Dabrowski (not Andreescu!) in both singles
And Fernandez lost the 1st rubber, relatively close though

Bencic takes 1st 6-1

Bouchard needs to get her business agent and Nike, Yonex to work on her behave to get some WC MD WTA entries by waiving her appearance fee!

Then Bouchard around 100 points net to move back to around 150 ranking so she can do qualifying in WTA tournaments!

will drop 60 points from dubai 2019 during her absence (she wasn't really going to be able to defend these anyway)
so will be around 330 in the world, if not lower, by the time she returns

You might be right! Bouchard needs a lot of luck and in two of her ITF tournaments of $100K needs to reach the Semis to get back the 60 point from the Dubai tournament. Otherwise, she will continue to drop because she is shut out of all WTA level tournament with her low ranking. Going below 350; she can only doing qualifying in ITF tournaments of $50K which means she would have to win the title to get any reasonable point to move up the ladder again.

I think Bouchard has some psychological problem with how to play points when she is serving and get broken quite easily now! She pretty good at returning srve but her holding serve is where she is most weak! I do not see Bouchard making any comeback to say 1/2 of her current ranking of 326 or 163 in Single Ranking. I think she will play at least a year in the ITF Woman’s Transition Circuit and then retire if her ranking drops below 500 in the world.

She’ll retire when she can no longer convince WTA tournaments to give her wildcards - for now, she’s still finding some success in that department (basically all her 2020 points are from the Auckland WC, without these she’d already have fallen to around 500, and she had another WC secured to the Thailand Open that she’s now missing out on due to injury)

Her comments a year ago about wanting to go down to lower level tournaments and build confidence show how fake she is - she knows she cannot grind her way back into the top 100 with low level tournies, as her game is far too inconsistent to win match after match week after week against hungry upstarts and veterans looking to keep careers alive - instead her team begs for WCs every week of the year, which is fine, just be honest about that strategy - she wants handouts to tournies with Moet champagne tents, and has no interest in playing the tournaments her ranking actually qualifies her for

I can hear now the commentators feeling sorry for Bouchard and relay the tail of her downfall in the ranks if she plays in future WTA MD tournaments. I doubt she get into the MD but maybe the qualifying tournaments due to her 300ish ranking! Qualifying has become very competitive since many qualifiers have been able to knockout seeded players!

Saw the first ad for the Rogers Cup or the mens Canadian Masters set for early August in Toronto. Haven't seen an ad yet for the womens tournament in Montreal scheduled for the same week. I remember last year, the ad prominently featured Bouchard, Andreescu and Serena Williams. Bouchard had fallen into the 100's at that time and I think had to be given a wild card to get into the draw. Will be interesting to see this year if she gets top billing again, or will she even get a wild card. There are a handful of more deserving Canadian juniors.

Haven't logged on for a long time, but just noticed that Bouchard was ranked 72 in 2019, finished 2019 at 224 (YIKES!!), and now in 2020 @ 211.

Holy Moly what a roller coaster! :cool:

Liked Bouchard for a few months AFTER her junior's success, and BEFORE learning what a complete biotch she is, not to mention she's a pretty sh*tty player in the realm of standards for a pro tennis player. :cool:

She may not be the best player or at her best now, but I salute her for the charity work for good cause.

Well, the auction winner can go to any tournament she can get into, so probably a 25K ITF in Wisconsin instead of Wimbledon :)

This thread at 134 pages, has a long way to go to catch up to her ranking. As of the middle of March she had fallen to something like #780 and with no play in the last three months, I presume Genie's ranking is still around that level. There was a time when her ranking was within the number of pages in this thread....we will never see that again!
