I told you so.

I called it yesterday. I freakin' called it. I predicted Dolgopolov will lose to his next opponent after his defeat of Nadal. I said he would be unable to capitalise on that upset, all that momentum, and I am proven right. Vindicated! Yes! Feels good!!! What a waste of a big win! What a waste!!!

I called it immediately after Dolgo beat Rafa.

I bet Dolgopolov loses his next match. That's what really ****es me off about these players who upset Rafa. They play the games of their life against him and then dud out next round. Complete fails.

If anyone watched Garcia Lopez's post-match interview with Annabel Croft, he explicitly said he won by trying to hit the ball harder than Dolgopolov. See my thread to understand why I raise this point: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=535981

Didn't look like a big win to me, looked like Nadal didn't want to show too much of his ace-serve before Wimbledon.
Notice the pattern of Nadal's last 5 matches-
normal serve (baghdatis),
ace serve (14 aces vs tomic),
normal serve (monfils),
ace serve (9 aces in 1st set vs troicki),
normal serve (dolgopolov).

Nobody expected Dolgo to win the tournament. He is the guy who comes in and plays lights out vs one of the Big Four and then falters in the next round or two. That is what he does and he is brilliant at it.

Despite Dolgo's talent, Nadal had no business losing to him and the loss is not a good sign for Nadal's W chances.

I wouldn't say he had any 'momentum'. Beating Rafa today isn't like beating him in IW last year was for him.

He lost the following match then as well. I hate that about these guys. They play the game of life against Rafa and Nole (referring to Nishikori @ US Open 2014) and dud out afterwards. Let their momentum dissipate like a fart in the wind.

I'd much rather Nadal hide the ace serve than waste it at Queens.
Everybody is watching at Queens.
He didn't spoil the surprise at the 2010 Canada and Cincy masters.

Don't get me wrong. I didn't expect him to win the tournament either. But to lose to Garcia-Lope, who is hardly a grass-court specialist and in that fashion, i.e. straight sets? Come on! These guys need to learn how to capitalise on upsets! Wins like these don't come for them that often. They should know better than to waste them.

Stop being delusional. Why would he break out the big serve at Stuttgart only to lose in the first round at Queens to his former pigeon Dolgo of all people?
In his post match press conference didn't you hear him say he was trying to win every point? He was outplayed by Dolgo. His big serve is inconsistent and so is his fh. He ain't winning Wimbledon without a big serve and a fh.

Dolgo never was and never will be a consistent player. The majority of players on tour are that way. He is a spoiler. Nobody should have greater expectations for him.

This happens in every sport. Upsets happen, but rarely does the underdog ever win the tournament or complete the "Cinderella Story" so to speak.

This wasn't really that hard a call either tbh.

Again, I did not expect him to win. I'm not going to repeat myself, so, do yourself a favour and find the post in which I address that issue. Shouldn't be too hard, we've only got one page worth of replies.

Also, can I ask that all you pedants stop trying to wrest this moment away frome me. You can't even allow me this minute victory. Shame on you all.

You've hit the nail on the head. He is a spoiler. I use the term "enemy of progress" but I like "spoiler" better.

Jimmy Connors called those type of players "stoppers." A player who will stop a big seed but won't go on and win the tournament.

Oh course he was trying to win every point vs Dolgo.
But he's sticking to his rule of not overplaying his big serve in non-Wimbledon matches.
He had to use it at Stuttgart for TWO matches to practice it in match situations.
Be dumb to use it in every match, especially at Queens where everybody is watching closely.

since it is already called an upset, the more difficult would it be to repeat, instead of an expected defeat, yeah.

Lol @ this thread. Dolgopolov's career win % is 53.55. Which means your prediction wasn't worth much more than a coin flip.

Thanks for the blinding glimpse of the obvious.

Well done OP, decent prediction - but I'm not sure you were really going out on a limb with this one :) Dolgopolov is a flashy player and he's had his troubles in 2015. Chances were that he was going to score one big win and then bomb out.

However, when he beat Nadal at Indian Wells last year, he went on a run to the semifinals (so he backed up the win at least).

Totally agree. It was going like a vintage Nadal comeback, and I totally thought he'd win. Yet another collapse before the finish like like Venus or something. Rafa is really starting to look done. Losing matches you always used to win is the first sign.

Well, I wouldn't say you were "vindicated", since you were never charged with anything. But beating Rafa is still a big accomplishment for the Dog... not a waste at all.

Ha, ha, ha! I am the naïve one? Coming for you with all of your crazy and wrong Nadal predictions that is hilarious.

Why wouldn't Nadal continue to use his great serve from Stuttgart in order to beat Dolgo and win Queens? Everybody in the tennis world already saw the serve in Stuttgart! Nadal is a complete confidence player who derives confidence from many match wins. Whenever he gets on a run of wins that is usually when he wins off clay slams.

Nadal is not likely to win Wimbledon unless he has every stiff in his side of the draw and players like Wawrinka, Djokovic and Murray lose early.

In addition to meaning "being cleared of guilt, blame or suspicion", "vindicated" also means "to be shown to be or proven right or justified".

Words can have more than one meaning, you know.

Because Nadal has the God particle and he is better than most people on the planet. Your brain is not equipped to handle all the master strategies being crafted by Nadal in preparation for the siege he is going to lay on the future slams. Be afraid, be very, very afraid

Wawrinka? Why is Wawrinka on your list? Don't you think you're getting a little carried away here?

You're just another groupie, aren't you? A glory-hunter. A crowd-follower. You just throw your lot in with whomever seems to be doing well, don't you?

Nice one.

OP, if it's any consolation, usually the person who beats Fed also loses in the next round. Tsonga, Berdych at WO for example. Seppi, Robredo and god knows how many more, I've lost count.

This was just a warmup event, FCS. Take it easy.

Why is Wawrinka on my list? You must have missed the AO 2014 final and the more recent Rome match where Wawrinka cleaned Nadal's clock.

I like Nadal and I would like to be wrong but I am not seeing tennis from him lately which makes me think of him as a favorite to win Wimbledon.

Yeah. He specifically tanked Queens and served badly so that he could be ready to become a monster at Wimbledon. Nadal, the player who is probably the biggest confidence player on the planet. *facepalm*
