I will never complain about ESPN again!

ESPN, PMac, Cliffy - all is forgiven! Come back !!

I never thought I'd see the day. FSN's atrocious coverage and complete disregard for the viewers, players and the game was disgusting. And I wanted to shoot the joker giving commentary with Justin (not that Justin was any good).

Say what you will about ESPN, and god knows we've said a lot, but at least they made a token effort.

yeah seriously it was terrible everything from the poor sound quality when the balls were being struck to the crappy video quality and the cut off matches. I really missed the ESPN coverage I could care less if they showed matches at 2 in the morning. ESPN coverage was way better. I missed the PMAC "droppa!" comments.

At first I didn't notice the bad video quality, but as the tournament progressed I could see the ball less and less. It was like their fps was extremely low where the ball kept jumping when it moved around.

Edit : Heck I'd let Bud Collins commentate over Justin

How many more tournaments did FSN purchase the rights for? I am already afraid of the answer

Miami and Shanghai. Where have you been, articles were posted about this a few weeks ago when it was announced. Where you on a secret spy mission?

Jeez, just give me a live feed of Eurosport instead, or the ATP MS live feed with Goodall, Koenig & Adler as commentators. ESPN still sucks, they just suck less than FSN and that low life Gimelstob.

i know what you all are saying, i got to watch the last mexican tournament like that,
even tough the people playing where not well known, seeing them with good sound would have been good, but since it wasn't, i usually fell asleep halfway through it,
1 more vote for "it sucks!!"

I would rather have Roseanne Barr as a commentator, than Justin. Sorry Justin, you're a OK guy, but TV commentary is not your thing. maybe a sideline reporting job is better suited for you.

ESPN deserved every complaint ever made so don't retract any harsh words just because FSN might have been worse. Otherwise, you will never have improved coverage. I personally would rather not watch tennis at all than have frustratingly bad coverage. I boycotted espn events whenever I could get livestreams.

Sorry, but I cannot believe that someone actually wrote this. You would actually rather have ESPN cover spelling bees and field hockey than tennis?

I think the genie is out of the bottle on this one. ESPN has dropped tennis like the cold stone it has become. No ratings = no coverage. It'll be left to regional coverage or specialty channels like Tennis Channel. Maybe it'll be good for tennis as the amount of money in tennis will go down.

Go to the link (below) and let them know. Once there, don't brow beat them because they'll just throw those type of comments in the "round" file:

http://msn.foxsports.com/feedback

Instead, ernestly and "politely" ask them to refrain from covering tennis, i.e. "if your recent coverage of the Pacific Life Open in any indication."

Kill 'em with kindness; but kill 'em nevertheless. I agree: the coverage was spotty at best and brutal for the most part.

Unfortunately, FSN is also showing the early rounds of The Sony Ericcson in Miami, with CBS showing the semis and finals.

I think its pathetic that because I don't have FSN, I don't get to watch one match. And the streaming times are just complicated.

After that FSN coverage, I think I'll be signing up for ATP Masters Series TV. Anyone have this? Any thoughts on it? Do you have to watch matches live, or can you get them on demand?

I just want them to fix their video feed. I can always turn the volume down.

I could barely watch the PacLife open cause the ball kept blinking in-and-out like a poorly running video game.

Yeah, I bought coverage of the Shanghai Masters from last year. You have an option to either stream it live or watch recorded matches and highlights. Also, want to play tennis this weekend?

Fox sucks big way. Very, very, very poor quality video, idiotic commentators, cutting the matches and presentations!

Whoa, now that's really saying something. I remember my dad saying something like, "That guy probably volunteered to report on the sidelines and they couldn't say no."

Now for an even more surprising comment. I'd take Barry Mackay over Gimelsuck. He says such stupid stuff like, "I LOVE the use of the backhand down the line by the swiss star." The "Swiss star?" WTF! Federer deserves more recognition than that. He pretty much just picks something to say over and over again. WE DON'T CARE IF NALBANDIAN ISN'T SERVING TO FISH'S FOREHAND. LET IT GO. In the final match he actually said, "GO FISH," one of the most biased comments I have ever heard.

Maybe we should give a John Madden-Bud Collins duo a shot after this crap.

They actually cut 4 GAMES out of the FINAL MATCH. Anything goes with these clowns.

FSN's stupid and uninspiring non innovative coverage--yes.

ESPN better than FNS- no doubt.

ATP internet streaming-- Great stuff. but only covers masters tournaments and doesnt cover other important tournaments (Dubai?). It doesnt give recordings. You have to be online at the time match is being played.

As one poster asked, where is the TENNIS channel. Shouldnt they be covering this important Tennis events?

I dont care if FSN and ESPN pulls out. Lets say all major broadcasters pull out from telecasting tennis. I am sure there will be specialty channels or something that will cover it. When there is a demand, there will be a supply.

gimblestob simply wouldn't shut up during all of the broadcasts. where is cliff drysdale or someone with a more muted, but still more informed, point of view when you need him. better yet, get john mcenroe. john is a "real" expert and is actually entertaining to listen to.

gimblestob rates right up there, or down there, with patrick mcenroe. i muted the play by play at least a half dozen times because i couldn't take anymore of gimblestob's 'expert' commentary. keep him on the sidelines doing 'fluff' interviews where he can clown around and be insignificant. how in the world did this guy ever get the gig? he certainly didn't do anything on the pro tour to warrant it.

OK, I know I am in the minority and I may get flamed but I didn't think that Justin was that bad. He definitely grew on me as the week went on and had several insightful comments. Yes he was very biased toward Fish in the final but that was expected.

What really pissed me off was the FSN production. Breaking away from the Tsonga-Nadal match at 5-2 in the third for a highlights show. Cutting out several games in the middle of a match because of time constraints. Could you imagine Fox Sports cutting out the 3rd quarter of a Bears - Packers game, they would be hung. Guys get a clue.

I'm glad other people know how bad Gimelstob is as commentator.

I really didn't mind Justin Gimelstob. I just don't understand TW's beef with Carillo, Gimelstob as well as all the other commentators? Do you really need someone telling what's going on in the game or can't you watch it yourself? Seriously...

8 or 9 years ago? Seriously? I am not going to argue with anyone's opinion of Justin's commentary, but I will tell you that what he did 8 years ago is irrelevant. I met Justin in 2002 and I hated him. A year later, I met him again and he was a different person. Somewhere in there he made the decision to grow the hell up and stop being so self-centered. We've been friends ever since.

How did he get to be a commentator - bad luck, to be honest. He broke his foot in November of 2003 and couldn't play. He lived in LA and Tennis Channel needed a player for a show they were doing, and Justin was available. He did well enough there that the people at Tennis Channel gave him more work. Between that, his own ability to network very well, and two really good agents (and a spotlight provided by his match against Roddick at the USO last year), he has earned every opportunity he has been given as a broadcaster. If you think he sucks and doesn't deserve the job, then write to Fox Sports.

i think i met you Fee... were you at the exhibition in NEw City hitting with Justin?

Fee, I like your sig. I think Goldstein had a good run over the years. He made some good coin and now he still has a Stanford degree to fall back on: not a bad second act ;) I believe he's working in finance or private equity out in CA.

Don't worry, most of you will complaining again when ESPN covers the slams this summer.

The truth is none of these channels do a very good job of showing the tennis fans want to see. They focus way too much on women's tennis which is boring as he11. The commentating sucks, no one says anything that we want to hear. They all talk constantly during points.

TTC would love to cover more matches but cash flow has to be there for them to cover the matches. I would pay for a subscription if it meant they could cover more of the tourney's we don't get to see in America.

I didn't watch much of FSN's coverage of IW because I subscribed to Master Series TV last year. At least when their commentators they annoy me as much. But what I did watch of FSN, I wanted the commentators to shut up already.

Hmmm, Im surprised with the Gimelstob comments. I havent heard him recently though, I havent seen any of the Pacific life tournament so I cant comment. I did think he was good the match or two I heard of him, I think it was at the US Open last year. I thought he had a good perspective. Maybe his quality has dropped since though.

Agassi did a great job the match he did, it would be fun to have him do it more often.
