If Nadal beats Federer at Wimbledon 2020

RAFA has to get to #21 and Ol' Rog has to stay at #20 for RAFA to be considered greater. And I say this as a RAFA fan.

Would you still consider Federer to be greater than Nadal?
Nadal beating Frederer at Wimby already showed that his grass peak is higher than Federer’s. The consensus among pros, former and current, is that Nadal is greater than Fed, but they are keeping up appearances for the media.

Nadal already defeated Prime Federer at Wimbledon , Beating him 12 years later isn’t really important

Djokovic has intimated many times Nadal is greater. And Nadal has often intimated Djokovic greater than Federer.

For me Sampras is greater than Federer..shot for shot i cant think of anything id have in federers game over a zoned in Sampras.

I also think Sampras is underappreciated around here. He was a mental monster and dominating champion who had to play in an era of tough competition and diverse surfaces. Who knows what levels he might have been pushed to if he were competing with Nadal and Djokovic. We would truly have a three-way rivalry.

Sampras Nadal Djokovic rivalry would have been absolutely unreal.

What if Djoker beats Rafa at RG? Does that change anything?
If it was a final probably moves him closer to Nadal as GOAT but that USO result last week really was significant. If Djokovic gets a double career slam it is huge so would just confirm he and Nadal keep raising the bar.

Yes. I mean imagine if Djoker won AO and RG next year? Ouch for everyone not a Djoker fan.
That might cause some bitterness, but nothing compared to the vitriol from some Fednatics around here. Nadal and Djokovic fans for the most part respect the other guy and their fans.

Very true sir! Too bad objectivity seems to get punished around here

Thats exactly what they are doing now. Suddenly there are 3 GOATs lol.

Reality is Sampras and Borg were not dominated by rivals. So its realistic to say Federer is 5th of open era.
YES! You must have been banned for boldly stating something seen as heresy on the TalkFeddy Forum

I think just the opposite: the only thing Sampras has over Federer is the serve. Sampras was a typical big-serving American, in that his groundstrokes were not built for rallies! His groundstrokes were meant to approach the net, not to out-rally anyone. That's understandable, since he still played in the S&V era. Federer was in vanguard of the transition to the BL era!

It's interesting to speculate: what if Sampras and Agassi had played out just 10 years later than they actually did, with more modern racquets and strings, would Agassi be the one with the advantage? Just as Nadal has over Federer!

Nadal beat Federer at Wimbledon in 2008, why would him beating a 40yo Federer that hasn't played for over a year make him greater? There are tons of achievements he's had over the years to claim to be greater. This one for sure isn't one of them.

And 38 year old Fed trounced Nadal at Wimbledon 2019. Mull that one over.
*trounced - beat in a tight 4 setter that had everyone on the ropes and could have gone either way
This a month after Nadal actually trounced Fed at RG

Sampras and Federer won their first slams in '90 and '03, so there's a 10+ years gap. It's interesting to see what happens if there could be a time/role reveral.

Federer would dominate 90's against Agassi, Becker, Ivanisevic just as much as Sampras. Federer's serve might not have the same speed, but he has better volley, groundstrokes and mobility.

Sampras would obviously dominate the naughts, as did Federer. He would struggle mightily in the 10's against Djokovic and Nadal, who are faster, stronger and more athletic than Agassi! And importantly, modern tennis is much friendlier to the baseliners than 20 years ago!

You sound like you think Pete was a servebot...his volleys are ATG and not somewhat, but significantly better than Fed's. His forehand is also comparable to Fed's.

As if you weren't having a little heart attack during the tiebreaker, and when Nadal took the 2nd 6-1? :-D
Some of Fed's most devout fanatics on here voted Nadal to win in 4 or 5 on the match thread :-D:-D:-D

1. for a roookie Sampras fan, you posses a lot of knowledge about what Fed fans did in the past. For which reason your account was banned?
2. I'm still curios which sh*t are you taking, and I'm serious when I say that it seems to be good
3. is your presence here an admission that you chickened out from the discussion about Pete winning Pioline Opens and Kafelnikov Invitationals?
