If Nadal finishes the year #2

If somehow Nadal finishes the year #2, he will have won 14 Grand Slam matches in 2012.

This will be the fewest matches won by a player who finished the year ranked #2 since Federer won only 13 Grand Slam matches in 2003.

In the last 30 years, the record for fewest Grand Slam matches won in a season by year end #2 was Agassi, with 11 in 1994 and 2002.

Unless Djokovic totally tanks the USO, I don't think there's any way at all for Nadal to finish #2. Nadal is already about 1400 behind on the year and likely to be 2800-3400 behind after the USO.

And what's left after that? 2 Masters tournaments and two 500 events? That's 3000 points total, if Nadal were to win all of them and Djokovic stayed home.

3000 + 1500 for WTF (as if).

Ah right I can't add and forgot about the WTF. But still. This is pretty much an impossible scenario and would require Djokovic to basically stay home the rest of the year.
