If Nadal wins this WTF, the GOAT discussion is over

Rafa will be considered the GOAT by June anyway, since he will be on 21 slams. This WTF is simply the cherry on a very large cake.

Credibility goes downhill when someone thinks Hewitt is beating the greatest HC player of all time in his prime in a BO5 match.

Hewitt and Djokovic are in different leagues altogether. Nice try though.

but Hewitt did beat the greatest HC player of all time Federer in a Bo5 match very close to his prime (Davis Cup 2003)

you also lose all credibility pretending Novak is anywhere near top 3 at USO level wise or achievements wise.
Beating prime djokovic at USO - Frickin Nishikori did it. Stan did it. Murray did it. All 3 worse at the USO than Hewitt. Of course prime Hewitt could beat prime Djokovic at the USO (unless Djokovic was close to his best)

Your tennis IQ/knowledge is -ve. That's the reality.

Peak Murray, Goating Nishikori all beat Hewitt.

peak hewitt > peak Murray at USO, but atleast you can make some argument there.
GOATing Nishi? LOL. prime Hewitt takes him down.
Like I had predicted, Nishi's level was good, but nowhere near enough to beat Cilic.

Yes and when that happens, Nadal will continue to add to his record-breaking slam count via FO victories.
So he will go from mega clay goat to mega clay goat +1.

add Bagdatis to mix as well. Seriously how one on earth can compare Fed 20 to Nadal 20. Fed had a free run which stopped as soon as Nadal/Djoko emerged on the scene and you want to use that free run as an argument against Nadal/djokovic? bamboozling indeed..
Nadal’s beaten more slamless slam finalists than Fed has.

lmao @ any version of Nishikori over Hewitt.
2014 USO Nishikori is beating Hewitt in 4 sets. Hewitt could only dream of playing that aggressively for the course of a match. Hewitt beats any other Nishikori though, correct.

Hewitt took the ball early but Nishikori took the ball early and changed direction consistently with pace in that SF.

Even 90's Clay would have been offended by this.
When has Prime Hewitt ever displayed the aggression and level that Nishikori did in that match. He was ripping backhand winners unconsciously from everywhere on that court.

No ones denying that Hewitt wipes the floor with Nishikori in most of their matches but not in that USO 2014 SF.

The GOAT debate will never be over. It will just move to the former pro player section soon, and 20 years from now it will still be a hot topic, just like Seles stabbing incident, and McEnroe vs Connors rivalry.

Take USO 2005 SF vs Fed for example:
Hewitt had 45 winners in 290 points =15.51%

Nishikori in 2014 USO SF had 37 winners in 237 points = 15.61%

Before you bring in slower USO court for Nishi, keep in mind Federer is more of a winner machine than Djokovic, so that cuts down Hewitt's chances of winners.

Bottom line is that Nadal is a one trick pony who can’t win consistently off the dirt. He’s only won two Wimbledon titles and one Australian. That is 3 titles total at 50% of the majors. That is sad. His resume is way too skewed and he’s not nearly as well rounded as Federer or Djokovic. He’s way too one dimensional.

Since the beginning of time it’s always been a fact that you need to be considered dominant at Wimbledon and an arguable grass GOAT to be considered the greatest of all time.

Djokovic has only one FO and three USO, that’s only 4 total at 50% of the majors. That is sad too?

Nadal has reached the final of each slam at least five times, he has nothing to prove.

Federer is a legend, I don’t think you should mention Djokovic next to him.

It's all the more impressive since the tour is highly skewed towards hard courters (before the 90s, it was skewed towards grass/carpet courters). Nadal is the first clay court-oriented player to be considered the greatest player of all time, despite most of his matches being off his favourite surface!

Nadal would still need to win one more slam (as long as Fed doesn’t win any more), in order to be considered GOAT.

Anyone knows what Nadal needs to do in order to get back to No1? Would winning the WTF and a deep run at AO and a win at either IW or Miami be enough?

Horrible lose for Nadal. He had everything perfectly lined up for him this week. Huge blow for his legacy. The Feddy boys now will have another argument to continue to call him a clay court specialist.:(

Rafa's only even won 1 indoor hardcourt title in his career. And that was in a final in Madrid coming back from 2 sets to love down and when he was 20 years old.

It's all in the thread title.

If he wins the WTF, he will have done everything. Olympic Gold, all four grand slams, tied for most grand slams, many weeks at #1 and most at #2, Masters, clay supremacy. There's just no path for Djokovic or Federer to overtake him anymore once Nadal closes the deal here. That will be it for at least a generation or two.

I don't care about this tournament. I only care about how he lost it. Why couldn't Medvedev just win in straights? Every time Nadal loses it has to be a choke these days...
