If Thiem wins this Australian Open he will win French Open

I am calling it right now. If Thiem wins this Australian Open (and I am not saying he will) he will also win the French. The confidence surge he will get from that will put him over the top. If he doesn't win the Australian Open, it is unlikely he will win the French over Nadal as well though.

Will be the exact opposite. Nobody has done that double since the Great Jim Courier in 1992.

Thiem is not winning 2 Majors in a year. I cannot remember anyone winning 2 Majors in their first year winning a Major.

Well we will see if he wins the Australian Open. I am sure I will be right. He probably won't win the Australian Open though, so we won't likely find out.

I also think he is the only one left this applies too. If Djokovic wins (most likely result) or Zverev wins, neither guy will win RG I am pretty sure.

zverev has no chance
but novak djokovic has chance
if thiem goes same section with nadal
he has the chance
so that 's so scary

Got to win his semi first.

Yes, and I am not assuming that. He needs to win 2 more matches, and I think unfortunately the odds might be against that. However if it does somehow happen, watch him win RG too.

And the main reason it has not been done more often lately is more since by far the best clay courter of the last 15 years has only won 1 Australian Open title.

Djokovic 2016? Martina Hingis in 1997.

I hope he wins.

I’m just really tired of the big 3.

This is how i feel. I don't think anyone can debate that Federer/Djokovic and Nadal are the best 3 players to play the sport but i'm ready to move on. Ideally i would like all 3 of them to finish on 20 slams just so the debate never ends and all 3 remain legends but i'm ready for something new. Preferably Zverev over Thiem tho xD

IF IF IF IF.....

First of all, Thiem won't win A.O. Even if he gets to the final, he won't even win a set vs Djokovic. He will be clobbered by Novak.

Second, what Thiem does at A.O has no relation to F.O. It depends which Nadal shows up in Paris. If Rafa is on his A game, then forget about it. No one beats him there. Not Thiem, not Djokovic.

I think this final will be fun, whatever we get. Old guard vs next gen. We will get more finals like this going forward and it’s gonna be fun to watch. Djokovic and nadal are far from done in slams and the next gen like Thiem, Zverev, Medvedev, Tsitsipas are all getting better. It’s gonna be interesting year for sure.

Thiem ran out of gas against Nadal last year. He will be almost 27 in 5 months. Yes he is a better player now but stamina wise he isnt 24 anymore.

Still think Nadal has a couple of French Opens left and one more Us open.

Medvedev needs to be careful as his 0-5 5 set record is a massive problem in the making

In 15 to 20 years time the seniors tour will be more competitive than the ATP provided the Big Three continue to play chasing records, as the most Seniors Grand Slams crowns :-D

The Thiem/Rafa quarter final was incredibly tight and that was Rafa on Rod Laver, statistically his least successful court. Take that tight match and transfer it to over to Chatrier (where Rafa goes to God mode) including Dominating Thiem (one set lost in four matches) and it doesn't automatically equate that Dom will win the matchup at RG.

I will say though, that the AO victory will give him a lot of confidence and Rafa's reign at RG has to end one day but Thiem has to take that AO performance up another few notches to take RG off Nadal and I don't know if those extra gears are there. I suppose we'll find out.

Lendl at age 60 can possibly wrap up his 4th FO.

Never doubt Ivan. Thiem can't compete with this, sorry.

As someone already said Novak in 2016 did it. Really timely Nadal's one AO he lost to Soderling at the French.

For the 2nd part, the following won multiple Slams their first year winning Slams: Connors & Vilas

Not at all tight that match rallies Nadal got dominated. Thiem has 4 crazy shanks in a service game in every set to donate a break. He needs to solve that to be an elite player.

Nadal depended on it to get to tiebreaks.

Fair enough. I don't see how you can't describe a match as tight when three of the four sets went to tie breakers though and then Thiem having to take his incredible game from the other night up a few levels to beat Rafa at RG is going to be a big ask.

NOT happening. RAFA almost beat him at this fast hard court at Australian open which give Dominick significant advantage. Guess what will happen on the surface which gives RAFA the advantage...…………….RAFA wins
