If Murray wins French Open, insane to think only Grand Slam missing is Australian Open

I guess we'll soon see. ;)

Maybe. Novak is statistically NOW about where Wawrinka ended up last year AFTER winning RG. In other words, Wawrinka was way worse before RG. I can't think that his early loss on clay and his troubles last week are going to be of much importance at RG.

Nadal used to win as many games or more than Novak is winning on serve this year, and his return used to be off the chart. As much as I would like to see big improvement this year I just don't see enough so far. The key is still his serve. Can he add a bit more speed and go for spots more? Or will he continue to serve predictably to the backhand side? I can't see him winning against Novak serving as he has been serving. Novak just parks himself on the backhand side and fires back. He isn't going to go on missing converting BPs. :(

Yep, seems inevitable. Damn the clay season for making us excited about other things :p #RealityTime
In practice, Nadal needs to be working on his serve + 1 right now. If you can't convert 1 of 5 set points, you're doing too much to try to win a point.

It's too bad there is no stat for how many points players play on the average service game! You know how it can go, duece, add in, deuce, add in, deuce, add out, deuce, and so on...

At the end there is only 1 BP, but all those deuces kill energy. After you see a couple games like that you just know that a break of serve is coming up. And there are so many games like that on the Nadal serve.

Murray's better on faster surfaces and therefore at faster slams (Wimby, USO) He has been very consistent at AO, but is clearly inferior to Novak on that sort of court. Clay is his worst surface, which is why he's come closer over the years at the AO than RG. However, he is still a very good retriever and it's more of a mystery why he has been so challenged on clay than that he has finally put together two decent clay court campaigns together. He is still an underdog there by a rather sizeable margin to both Nadal and especially Djokovic this year. If he were to win, it wouldn't be amazing to me that he won there before AO. What would be more amazing/unfortunately ironic from my perspective would be that he would get the coveted RG before Novak!

I don't know, how did you root for Nadal all those years at RG then? How could anyone not want to see a curveball? :D

In the past, I would have agreed with you but not now. Why don't you think he could do it now?

Because for me Nadal is playing well enough that a tussle with Murray on Chatrier would be probably be advantage Nadal.

Anybody but Robot! :D If Robot pulls it off I will respect it but I'm seriously sick of seeing this guy's mug lifting trophy after trophy without any rivals to challenge him. It was a novelty at first but now it's enough. He needs some competition!

If Nole continues to give away sets in early rounds it can be an exhausting march towards the final for him, playing 4 and even 5 seters.

Exactly. 128 guys playing the FO. I'm ok with any of the other 127 :p

I gotta say, the FO should be interesting this year. Rafa is more or less back into form, Murray picking a win over Novak in Rome was surprising, Novak himself doesn't look to be at his best physically. Will Wawrinka be a dark horse and surprise us with a deep run? Will Roger even play? Can Nishikori make a deep run? Lots of questions which I think will make the event more interesting than in recent years. I don't really care who wins as long as it leads to great tennis.

By your logic Johansson > Andy Murray on slow hard courts (not just the Australian Open but slow hard courts overall) since he has the Australian Open title and Murray doesnt.

Or Conchita Martinez > Hana Mandilikova on grass since Conchita won Wimbledon.

Or Anastasia Myskina > Gabriela Sabatini on clay.

Perhaps you might believe all that too, but they all just make me split my side with laughter.

When you talk about greats, you talk about about their slam titles first of all. I'm sure Murray would rather have that 1 AO title than a bunch om Miami titles. And yes, when I look at the greats at each surface, I look at the number of majors they have on it.

Djokovic will never be considered greater than Federer on clay unless he wins the FO. It doesn't matter if he has 20 masters on the surface.

I agree on Djokovic and Federer on clay, but that is because Federer has 6 Masters and 5 French Open finals himself. That is totally different than some of the other guys you listed.

Again do you consider Conchita a better grass courter than Hana, Johansson a better slow hard court player than Murray, and Myskina a better clay courter than Sabatini? Is Gaudio a better clay courter than Correjta and Rios (or for that matter even Djokovic if he doesnt get RG)?

Do you think Conchita would trade her Wimbledon title for anything Hana had accomplished on grass?

I woke up this morning and my first thought was:

If Andy Murray wins the French Open, how insane it would be that the only Grand Slam missing for him is the Australian Open.

Murray, of course, has reached 5 finals there and another semifinal. The Australian Open is the only Grand Slam where he has defeated Federer and Nadal at. Who else can say they have done that? Djokovic at the Australian Open/French Open/Wimbledon/US Open, Soderling at French Open, Del Potro at US Open

Now THAT'S dedication to the sport.

I agree Tennis_pro.

OP's first thought in the morning is Murray ? Now, that's being too invested in tennis.......or being SICK. Eitherway, it's hilarious.......
