Injury problems for Nadal before the Masters Cup start

Thought I heard somewhere that Federer has already clinched the year-end ratings race, (i.e., finishing the year ranked #1). Is this not true?

yes, but Nadal could claim the #1 ranking early 2008 if results go his way.

You have to think about Federer as well this year pulled out of his usual year opener, pulled out of Halle, then Tokyo in an effort to prevent injury, in all honesty he'd have been better playing those and skipping a couple of MS, would've had more titles and more points.

Federer won't skip MS in favour of smaller tournaments otherwise he'd lose out on a $1.5mil payout from competing in 8 out of 9 MS events. :D

Nadal will not end 2007 as number 1 even if he wins TMC without losing a single match and Federer decides not to play.

This is exactly what everyone said was going to happen. Nadal may be destined to be another Courier/Hewitt. Burns brightly for a few years, then sputters out. You can't have any longevity in tennis with an inefficient game.

nadal could have some years left in him. Borg got 6 FO titles and Nadal is on pace to beat him. I'm not saying he will, but he could continue "to burn brightly for another couple of years.

Nadal is improving all the time on the surface he obviously does not enjoy playing on. He always hinted that improvement would not happen overnight and he is taking his own time to make this improvement and never mind what people say or what pressure may be put upon him.

Nadal needs to switch to a heftier racker so he'll get more value for his shots, especially on hard courts. Then he won't have to run so much. He should borrow one of Agassi's.

I do not see it

I see this statement all the time about Rafa, but I do not see the results. Let me get this straight, I do not hate Rafa, I think that he is great for the game. However, I go only by stats and results. If you look at Rafa's results over the last 4 years, he really has not improved all that much (on the 2nd half of the year) and he is getting injured more often. He has more injuries at 21 than most players at 29. As he gets older, his body will not be able to recover from those blows.

With chronic tendonitis in the knees his speed will soon drop from ligament damage if he does not rest aproprately. His tenacity and mental strength have kept him going so far, but if he does not take his injuries seriously, his career will end abruptly. That would not be good for the game.

I know Nadal plays a physical game and doesnt have that big of a serve to finish off points or a huge forehand.

What was Agassi's big weapon in his game? He had a long career, but when I think of him I dont know what weapons he had.

agassi was able to handle power, and take balls early to take time away from his opponents. it wasn't as noticeable later in his career because everyone starting to do the things he did. at first he was more known as the guy with the bleached hair and a massive forehand.

Nadal needs to rest every once in a while. like when he didnt rest during the clay season, that was probably a lot of wear on his body.

Agassi also would never have had such a long career if he hadnt taken those breaks that he did.

Big backhand, big return, big forehand (early in his career when he used to cut loose on it). He was such a smart player that he didn't really need to blow guys away as he got older. He just kept the ball in play and kept his opponent running. Nadal is a much more instinctive player, I doubt he'll be running guys like Agassi did when he's 35.

Nadal has only 1 or 2 more years as a top 3 player. He has 3 or 4 more years at best as a top 10 player. I cant see him lasting as long at the top for sure.
