Is pressure more on Fed or Nadal?

I think it’s ever so slightly more on Fed, simply because Nadal and Djokovic are closer than ever on his tail now. So for Fed to have a chance at winning the final and therefore staying ahead would be huge. Then again, GETTING one closer to Federer is monumental for Rafa, so it’s hard to say. We know they both want to win this match more than anything!

Nadal.

Federer has the Slam and Wimbledon record. He's the underdog. This can only help his legacy, not hurt it.

Nadal is the favorite, and he's chasing the Slam record. Losing to 37y/o Fed on grass would significantly hurt his dominance of the rivalry and his Slam race position.

I see where you’re coming from, but it’s Fed. RG was house money, but there is always greater pressure on Fed at Wimbledon, especially v Nadal, because dumb Joe Public thinks Fed = grass, Nadal = clay and ignore the new reality of green clay.

He's playing very well, and with Fed being almost 38 losing is not a good look.

Fed basically has nothing to lose. He wins tomorrow he'll still be a huge underdog vs Djokovic. Nadal is 2 Slams behind, is in good form and needs to make hay while the sun shines.

Basically, Fed will have an excuse in the eyes of the masses, Nadal won't really.
Nadal himself is 33 and this is Federer's most succesful Slam. Nadal recently defended his fortress at RG and now is Roger's turn to defend his fortress at WB. Plus, if Federer loses it would mean he does not lead the H2H over Nadal in any Slam. Both have the same amount of pression.

It is childhish to consider that one or the other has more pression. The reality is that both have the same pression. You can find many arguments to put the pression on Federer and many argument to put the pression on Nadal.

'Most successful' is relative. Fedr has won Wimbledon less than 50% of the number of times he's played it - 8/20.

Nadal. He should be the clear favorite given current form. No pressure on Federer since he probably doesn't even expect to win himself.

Exactly. And it wasn't an easy match for Nadal in RG even though he won in straight sets. So Federer should be the clear favorite in Wimbledon.

Yeah, the only thing is, I don't see this as Federer's fortress anymore. It belongs to Djokovic IMO. Federer is the greatest Wimbledon champion of all time, but at near 38 he passed the keys onto Djokovic. Djokovic has won four of the last eight Wimbledons, and has a 4-2 H2H against Fedal here. It was clear in 2015, the torch was passed. This cannot be Federer's fortress when he is given an even less of a chance of beating Djokovic than he is beating Nadal.

That's because Djokovic has avoided Kyrgios and Querrey over the years.

Are we talking of Fedal or Fedovic? Wimbledon is not Nadal's fortress either so the point stands. Federer needs to defend his positive H2H at his best Slam, just like Nadal did at his best Slam.

Yes, at this stage of their careers Djokovic is the better player. But that doesn't change the fact that Federer is the greatest in Wimbledon, and in his matchup with Nadal he still should be the favorite here. Yes, he can't beat Djokovic in a slam anymore. But that's how it is, when you are long past your prime you have to pass the torch eventually.

The way you are making out that Wimbledon is Federer's fortress, I disagree. It is Djokovic's now.

Look, last year, the SF between Rafa and Djoker hinged on one point in the 5th set. It could have gone either way and Djoko was so confident that he demanded the match being completed under the roof in the best weather Wimbledon has had.

So, RG 2013 was close to, Djokovic lost. Nadal lost at Wimbledon, a loss is still a loss.

Doesn't matter, I don't see it as Federer's fortress anymore. This place belongs to Djokovic, if he is considered favorite over all of them and has recently won the most titles. People are confusing the greatest of all time with the current owner.

But what does it have to do with Federer-Nadal matchup? Federer is still a better grass court player than Nadal, hence he is the favorite. This is my point.

Sport's description of this being Federer's fortress. I object to that.

Considering the surface, draw, and h2h, I'd say..........................................It's a must for Fred.

If Sunday evening either Bull is at 19 or Nole is at 16, 21 will be looking awfully achievable. There is a lot of pressure on Bull as it's true more excuses will be made for Roger especially due to his age, but at the end of the day, Roger is taking a stand for his slam record tomorrow.

I don't think Nadal can get to Federer's record. After the great chances he missed it is a miracle that he even got that close to be honest. I stopped caring about this record long time ago.

Federer of course.

The fact that a 37 year old player is still playing and trying to win slams, shows that he feels the pressure of losing his slam record to either both of his rivals. The fact that Nadal hasn't won WB since 2010, the fact that Federer won it 2 years ago, the fact that grass is Federer's best surface while it's Nadal's worst, the fact that most people will support Federer and the fact that losing to Nadal almost means no slam title for Federer in 2019 since he hasn't won the US for more than a decade, indicates that the pressure is on him.. Basically the AO and Wimbledon are the only slams Federer still got chances of winning with a good draw.

Fedfans can say a lot. But those who won't admit that the pressure is on Federer, proves to not know tennis. This is Federer's BEST surface and Nadal's WORST. Federer has a disadvantage in age, but he is still playing good and has won most tournaments this year, so he is not as his peak but not far away neither. Nadal has already showed he is the king if he could elect surface, now if Fed wants to be GOAT he has to show his main rival, he is better when he elects surface.

I think Nadal probably feels he should've won Wimbledon last year, and it probably sits on his mind, almost as much as 2007 did, going into 2008s final.
He was determined that wasn't going to happen again, and I have belief that nothing will stop him this year.
To beat Federer, then Djokovic to get within 1 slam of the record is massive. He knows his chances are limited off of clay going forward.
The time to close the gap is now.

Just imagine if he wins. Nadal at 33 playing his worst surface, beating Djokovic and Federer. Proving that a tough draw or easy draw does not decide whether he wins. Tbh this victory should go down as the best run at a GS. Nadal is clearly though the 3rd favourite, no doubt.!

Nadal of course, how can you lose to a man whose career began during the Roman Empire? Allied of course to a reprise of the Australian beatdown awaiting.

I am glad someone gets it.

If Sampras played on lets say another two years and retired at 33 in 2004, would everyone still say Wimbledon is Sampras' fortress or would it be clear the keys have been given to Federer and it's fortress now, despite only having two titles to Pete's 7? No one really would, because Federer's best would be considered the gold standard, and the man to beat.

You can't really own the fortress if you are clearly the underdog against someone, which at nearly 38 Federer is compared to six years younger Djokvoic. Some think that is insulting Federer, it is not. Realistically Federer shouldn't be owning any slam at his age, its crazy how past his prime he is now. Federer is the greatest Wimbledon Champion of all time, there is no doubt of that, he has the most titles, but we are talking about the current state of affairs, and since 2011 Djokovic has won half the titles.

I would say 2014 when Fed serve botted and clutched his way to a 5 set match. He would have 9 titles by now if he took that.

Anything post 2012 is a bonus. He was clearly the best grass player up until that year, with an epic loss in 2008 and a freak GOATing loss in 2011 only things really stopping him.
