What worried me for Thiem is in WTF he choked. He choked v Rafa in Paris last year after getting to a set app as he didn’t react at all to Nadal shortening points and he is very old to be a first time Major winner. Nadal will be utterly unstoppable in roland Garros to get 20 Majors. I do not expect much from Nadal in Melbourne as I think he will concentrate on clay this season until May. I can see Nadal and Djokovic splitting Majors again this year as nobody is close to either even over 3 sets let alone 5.

Injury is the biggest threat to Nadal and Djokovic. Thiem I think may struggle to stay on top 8 this season . Hope I’m wrong as I’m a big fan. I dislike Tisitsipas
Well for one, I love Tsitsipas. I don't like his spoiled attitude sometimes, but he's got a great game and mentality overall.
Thiem didn't choke WTF, Tsitsipas was on fire in the 2nd set and proved too clutch in the end. Tsitsipas fully deserved his win.
Nadal is still a huge favorite at RG as things stand now. The Thiem thing is more of a hope that he goes on a clay rampage in 2020, given his dominance against big 3 in 2019.

And the more Thiem wins on clay the worse he'll play in a Roland Garros Final, because he hasn't got the stamina to sustain it :)
And Thiem's stamina is only going to get worse with age.
Rafa's stamina will get worse too, but Rafa doesn't need stamina to win Roland Garros, as his skill level is supreme.
Rafa is the favorite at Roland Garros and US Open, and 2nd or 3rd favorite at the other 2 slam events.

I've seen threads bumped from as far back as 04, so I'm assuming TTW has been a thing even longer than that. I can't comment on any "golden age" of TTW (if such a thing even existed), but I've enjoyed my 7 months here.

Pretty lady ''she got big in all the right places, maaan.'' But is she had anything to do with Ghost's shooting then it is bad news.

i haven't posted in many years. other than couple of posts, probably at least 10 years.... but i'm on here today, because of a specific question.

anyway, i agree partially with OP... the last thing i'm interested in is a GOAT debate about fed/nadal/djoko/laver/borg/etc.... it can't be answered anyway. i think it depends on your core value system.. i hate watching arguments about it.

in the old days, i also remember some very aggressive posters.

where i disagree some with OP is i would thought GOAT discussions would draw people. to change sports, people love to debate TW/JN, lebron/jordan/etc.... maybe it's the attitude of the some of the posters that turns people off

There are about 8 Nadal fans here. Not sure they can be accused of ruining the forum . Nadal fans have taken over the ATP Facebook pages.

I don't think Nadal fans have ruined the forum but there are plenty of them on here

Trolling itself isn’t the problem, it’s just that there’s not much else. MTF used to be more lively despite having more trolls, but it was just more active overall. It died with the forum software change they implemented. TT held out longer by not shooting itself in the foot but is fading in terms of activity. Basically the generation of people interested in posting on forums is aging and younger people would rather talk tennis on reddit or twitter than in this format

He wasn’t dominant v Nadal?

Dunno if it is because I’ve just come back from a year off but seems to be the same amount of people chatting in all sections. So probably not quite just yet but one day it may fade away if forums become a thing of the past just like chat rooms did.

I'd say that this is partially true. Trolling helps the natural process of pushing people out of forums too.

Time is a snake eating its own tail.
Newcomers come and enjoy and think the glory is theirs and the age is golden.
Oldies have seen the same shït again and again and again and they grow bored thinking that the end is nigh.
Oldies slowly leave.
Newcomers slowly grow old.
The cycle slowly but surely continues.

Anything is better than rst !!!

I sincerely hope TTW forums isn't dying because this is my go to Tennis site, I don't like MTF because it's a clusterfudge

Usually between the ATP finals and the Australian Open there isn't much to talk about in regards of tennis but it heats up pretty fast when things start in Melbourne.

there’s lots of trolling on the other platforms people use though too
but people still use twitter, Facebook, reddit for other purposes. The thing is: this is a tennis forum and most of the users barely plays tennis, some of them don't even watch the sport on their television apart from a couple of matches from their favourite player.

That was always true, but the people who were passionate about tennis also posted. Toxic trolling definitely hurts quality participation but humor and levity also boost it. I think it’s loss to other platforms plus maybe big 3 fatigue/predictability as well

Maybe not currently, but i'm guessing it would 'die' once the Big 3 are gone. I won't be hanging around for much longer once Fed retires, unless one of the 'young guns' wins me over.

”attached their identity to Fed”? like they go to their Jobs every morning thinking they’ve won 20 majors and have millions in their bank accounts?
same as people who vote for their politician.. ”he’s just like us”. They are either billionaires like him or extremely stupid like him.
haha well, some connection to the tennis sport they have to have though, like they happened to watch tennis a couple of times instead of soccer or whatever.
it's not special that people watch sports and look for an idol around there. ;) you are just kind of parodying it.

if you want good debate thenATP Facebook page is where all the action is. Within minuted if a thread they post there can be thousands of replies. It is very hard for forums like this to compete.
are you referring to the 'ATP Tour' Facebook page? :cautious: only the ATP can post threads there, no? you can only discuss their threads and those are rarely interesting for direct debate. and if they are, they usually land here too. i remember the "big title kings" story, but even it is too lame for many replies.

Says someone who legit believes that Nadal losing a tie-break against Djokovic on HC (and a 19th set in a row on the surface) is a stellar success for Rafa.

Then you don't like tennis.
HUH? So you're saying only true tennis fans hang around TTW? I said I won't be hanging around TTW. That doesn't mean I won't be watching, or following tennis. Being a fan of a player gives me that added motivation to go on a forum and chat about things related to that player or tennis in general. I have better things to do (in life) than chatting on a forum all day just because I like tennis, it doesn't mean i don't like tennis. Being a fan of a player (in my case it's the obvious) gives me that extra motivation to get up at a ridiculous time of the morning (e.g. 3am) and drive to a sportsbar somewhere in town to watch a non-slam match of that particular player i have a keen interest in. The same goes for chatting on here.

When Fed retires, you are only going to watch last rounds of Slam matches?

I don't usually write here because my mother tongue is Spanish and it would take me a long time to do it perfectly if I want to write long posts, but I frequently read the threads, your opinions and trollings xD I think this is, or used to be, the biggest forum to talk about the sport we love. However, lately I have the feeling that there are less people than ever writing and watching matches. It seems the GOAT debate is getting aaaaaall the attention right now, and in spite of being a fascinating thing, it starts to be boring.

What do you think? am I wrong and the forum activity is the same as usual? the GOAT debate is bad for tennis outside the Big 3 and Grand Slams?
This place used to be pretty good . . . before the Big 3 Wars. Then it just sort of began it's slow descent into hell. I think you're partly right when you say that the dominance of the Big 3 has sort of killed some interest in the sport altogether. Dynasties in any sport kill neutral fan interest, and tennis is no different. So with the same old, same old on the tour, which has led to the same old, same old discussions, this place has fallen on hard times. It still has it's moments, though.

I mostly just show up for the Slams now.
