Ivan Dodig disqualified in final

I just wanted your guys opinions on Dodig´s disqualification in the challenger final against Alex Bogdanovic in Kolding.

Here is what happend:
The whole week he had been acting absolutely without class. No earlier than in his first round match against Danish Martin Pedersen he assaulted a linejudge and got into a fight with a spectator. He was lucky not to be disqualified in that match.

In every match of the tournament he has been unsatisified with linejudges and calls etc.

Then in the final, after losing the second set in a tiebreak, having won the first he goes to the bahtroom. On the way to the bathroom he says something to a linejudge, which is heard by two other linejudges. And as the rules prescribe, they must report it to the umpire. Then the supervisor was called and based on the independent explanations of the two other linejudges he was forced to disqualify Dodig.
On the way out of the court, Dodig took the runner-up trophy and smashed it into a wall, making it break into pieces.
Besides the fine he is also loosing the 75 points he has earned during the tournament.

Well, imo he deserves it. I think he´s been a disgrace the whole week, and I can´t say I´m surprised that this happens.

What do you guys think?

With you 100%. He should have been disqualified during the 1st round for assualting the line judge and getting into a fight with a spectator. If he's not able to control himself he has no place in a sporting arena.

impressive jerk... any picture of the poor broken trophy ? :?

Looks like an up and comer. Maybe he'll play Daniel Koellerer at some point? That would be a match to bring a flak jacket to.

I just couldn't bring myself to smash a trophy, not matter how angry I was. He should be fined the same/more than Serena was, that would really hit him where it hurts.

well you gotta be pissed if those line judges aint doing their job properly.

well firstly no1 said they werent doing their jobs properly, and being pissed isnt a reason for assaulting line judges and smashing trophies. If being pissed justifies such actions then everyone would just say they are pissed when they step out of line.

A summary, from a user at MTF...

In his first match against Pedersen(local player) he got a couple of shady calls against him, line judges were kids aged 13-15(?????), after he thought one of his serves was good he went to the net and asked the linejudge/Kid if he was sure, the kid said it was very, very close but still out(serving speed of 200kmh) and laughed in his face; he won the match nevertheless; after the match he asked the supervisor how many elementary school kids are linejudges here, the supervisor said 6-7, and that he will change this(did not keep his promise); during the final in the tie breaker at 6-6* Boggo served a serve 20-30 cm out, Alex takes out the 2nd ball and prepares to serve, the umpire looks at the linejudge after 5 sec and says 7-6** Bogdanovic, he was furios, looked at the linejudge(an old lady) and she kept on smiling, he lost the following point, and asked for a toilet break before the third set, he was nervous, talking to himself, shouting a bit, and while walking out to the toilet said in croatian: ''Pizda''(*****) to himself, and tehn afterwards ''Oh ****'', at the same moment they were changing line judges and that old lady probably thought he said to her:''Piece of ****'', went to the umpire and reported it, afterwards Dodig came back to the court and he was informed he lost because he told the line judge she was a Piece of ****. He took the trophy and flowers(gave it to a ballgirl) and went off court immediately, and in some corridor he smashed the trophy into the wall; nobody saw this, they could only hear something breking; he said that he works very hard, has to earn every single $ and he can't accept that some kids and awful judges hold in their hands if he will win a title or not, and taht he needs every $; HE apologized for his behaviour, he knows he was wrong, but the treatment he got was disgusting.

15 year old linesmen? Seriously?

Sounds like a big possibility. Small tourney in an post-communist country = big chance of serious corruption.

BTW, pizda means a certain female body part. As a swear word, used similarly to fxxk or bxxch.

Uh the tourney was in Kolding, Denmark. First world country, no commies:). I have my doubts that a pro tourney in Denmark would us 13-15 year olds calling lines. Even it were true and it unfolded the way he claims, it doesn't matter. His behavior is inexcusable. Take your trophy, your points and the money. Don't play there again.

Sorry, I thought it was in ex-Yugoslavia for some reason.

Actually a lot of the tournaments in Europe at the futures and challengers use high school aged kids as line umpires.

We actually tried it in the US about 6 years ago on a trial basis. The Bronx challenger used high school aged kids as line umpires as volunteers to cut down on the budget. 3 or 4 of them ended up being very good and working at the US Open the next year. Most of them fizzled out pretty quickly though. Using young line umpires is very common. One of the problems is that they tend to get intimidated pretty easily though. Sometimes they are immature and talk back to the players.

Well I am surprised. As far as I know there are no other professional sports that use kids as judges. I don't it is appropriate for a professional sports event. I might be okay for an amateur event, but not when people's livelyhood is on the line.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I am just giving the information that it is not uncommon, especially at futures and challengers in Europe.

pizda means vagina, but a better translation would be c**t or p***y

I know what it means, it's the same in Russian. The use of the word as a swear word is not the same as the direct translation in English. Under the circumstances you would say "pizda" you would not say "pxxxy" if you are swearing.

I never thought I'd say this, but.....even Koellerer wouldn't do those things.

No, they just run the country.

:)

Let's all pitch in and pay for a Koellerer-Dodig exhibition

Safin will be the umpire , he has an even temper. Federer will be the centre linesperson. He never wins any of his challenges.

Should be a classic.

Game on!

Id rather see some ex profesional wrestlers with poor eyesight who are allowed to body slam them if they give any lip.

Ok, but I'm not going to be the chair umpire. :)
I dont blame you, a match between those 2 could very well end up in a hospital...
Slightly off topic, i saw you wrote that you were chair-umpire at the Bronx-challenger, i played the pre-quallifying there in 2005, im trying to figure out what the name of that place was? It was blue hardcourts in the middle of large houses that looked to be burned out...Do you know where that is?
