Hey I saw the 2 REd Stars on ****. I like 4 5/8th grip and was wondering if it is safe to build them up to that. I have done 4 1/2 before with no issues.

It's definitely do-able, just depends on how you like your racquets. IMHO the Red Stars are light enough and allow a lot of modifications if needed.

Putting two grips sleeves will weigh the butt end down to make it more headlight. If you like leather grips, two sleeves and the grip may be a bit much and will make the racquet too headlight unless you counter it with more lead weights around the hoop, which will end up making the racquet closer to 13 oz overall.

Two sleeves and a regular replacement grip may not be that heavy and might not require much counterweighting the hoop.

Is there any info on extended frames causing shoulder issues? I have had 2 battles with TE that I have think was due to using a poly string. My shoulder/neck for the month or so. I have been using the Red Star for about 2 years now. I currently have Tecnifibre Biphase at 55lb in my RS and love it. I actually am about ready to take the band it off when I play.

As far as I know from reading around, it can be one of the factors for TE. Frame stiffness, string stiffness, and incorrect technique are other factors that have been suspected of causing TE.

IMHO the extended lengths themselves don't neccessarily cause the TE, it's what it does to one's strokes that cause the TE. For most people that aren't used to extended length racquets, they will tend to hit late as the swingweight is usually a good bit more than their usual frame even though the static weight feels relatively comfortable for them. If you feel you are hitting late or letting the ball go behind you a little, it may be that incorrect stroke echnique that's causing TE for you. With that said, if you only play with extended frames from the beginning and stay with frames in the same length and swingweight, I would doubt your stroke technique would be hindered and you probably won't get TE. Again, this is just my opinion.

Two Kneissl Red Star Tennis Racquets 4 3/8

I have two Kneissl Red Star Racquets for sale in near perfect condition. Will take 160 each or best offer plus shipping. They have about 4 months play using head tape the whole time. One has a nick but, other than that they are great.

I was playing with them because of the flexibility for my arm troubles coupled with TNT2. Also, the extra 1/2 inch allowed me to slice way out wide on deuce side.

Email me at moonz76@gmail.com if you're interested.

Please add me to the club.

I just got two of these bad boys.

I had one strung up with ALU Rough. 60 in the mains, 62 in the crosses. Serving and volleying is some of the best I've ever played. Groundies still need some adjusting.

3-0 so far with my Red Star. Only dropped 1 set in 3 matches, and that was because my opponent turned into Nadal for 3 straight games.

I'm confirming. Got rid of my red stars quite awhile ago but just ordered the tom's machine (leather, 27.5). Let's see how they play

Proud to be an owner of a couple of Kneissl Red Stars (2010).

I had a white star big back in the 80s and most recently was very loyal and happy with Volkl (tour 10 series) but as they say, you never get over your first love. With some lead and an overgrip I am up to 11.8 oz which works very well for me.

tom4ny - I assume your talking about the new 2010 Kneissls (as opposed to old ones being sold on TW)? Let me know how you like them if oyu have the chance. I've been thinking about buying a few directly from Kneissl also...

Thanks!

Mike

Now I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the ones on TW are the new ones,..as of 2010 that is,...not ones from some years ago,..

,..Regardless,...I just got a Red Star, and i'm delighted with it,...(superficially), as much as a person can be based on specs, and looks, and how it feels in Your hand and free swings. I know the true test will be on the court.:)

TW's version is new stock circa 2007, left over from the Kneissl distributor in North America. If you check out Kneissl's website you can view the 2010 models.

Thanks and compliments to you, as well! I used the Red Star for a couple of months in late 07/early 08. I actually posted a rare (for me) racquet review a few years back:

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=170704

I miss the Red Stars and maybe since I've played with flexy racquets/soft strings a few years now, I wouldn't develop the same shoulder/elbow twinge. Good luck with the Red Stars. I love Kneissl products (still use their skis) and am considering picking up a Tom's Machine. By the way, if you think the 2007 Red Star is a beauty, Google Kneissl Shop (located in Austria) and check out the 2006 model...red and black with a yellow racing stripe on one side...best-looking racquet ever, IMHO.

hey guys! i wish that tw would carry the 2010 series of kneissls and hope that it works out in the future. the 2010 red star is a little shorter then the previous edition and has a thicker beam width. i love the look of them, all red with the only graphics being a star and 'kneissl red star'. the finish is matte where the previous versions were high gloss.

i love the power, control, and feel of these red stars and the wider beam width doesnt bother me nor affect my swing speed. i did add a bit of weight to the 3-6-9 positions as well as the handle. i didnt want to change the balance too much as it worked pretty well in stock form but wanted just a bit more oomph. the racquet also volleys well.

its great to be a member of the club and i plan on sticking with this frame for a long time. the vs tonic is a great combo if you can do that. i rotate 4 frames so it works out.

kneissl makes great products and i ski on a pair of black stars. its cool to have products with such a clean and classic look - ultimately though its performance and these things deliver.

if you send an email to tregenauer@yahoo.com i can send you their catalog for 2010. like i said, it would be great if tw were to carry these again in the future. happy hitting :)

The Red Star is an excellant racquet. My only wish is that it would be std lenght. 27 inch.

You can cut the extra length off. Have it done at a pro shop. I hear more complaints about this but no one is willing to have it cut off. What's the big deal with having it done????? If you cut it off and don't like it sell the racquet to someone that, like you, wants to experience this racquet at a 27" length.

Better pick up one soon. Looks like a close out of them. I saw that site you are talking about two days ago. I can't believe they still have some available. I almost bought one....had to talk myself out of it. Well, maybe for now.

Nice! I went all ski season last year without seeing another pair of Kneissls. I have a pair of Silver Stars that are 6-7 years old and love them. Also have an older pair of Kneissl Tanker skis that may be the best powder ski I've used (I'm not a great skiier-probably high intermediate).

I've sold my Red Stars (2007 version) and still have some spare grommet sets left. If anyone is interested shoot me an e-mail.

Can you put on a CAP like I've read in some comments?

NO, you can't. The string pattern is different than head racquets. Kneissls only have one skip hole, not two like head. I have a couple sets of grommets for the 2007 red star but that's all that's left, as far as I know.

Ya know,..I got out with my Red,...(2007),....liked the feel a lot and all,...but found it pretty demanding,..in terms of really needing to get well set for the shots with good preparation and footwork. (Due to the extra length). I suspect this isnt a stick i could go back and forth amongst others like i do with my other sticks, as it took some fair adjusting to. Love the stick in its own right, good serve, groundstrokes, nice feeling stick. I just need to commit if I determine thats what I'm going to use for awhile. 'Raquet hopping' doesnt work when using this (for me).

thanks to Oscar here on the boards I picked up two red star 2010's in great condition! i now have 6 and i could not be happier. this frame is so sweet and gives great control and decent power. i love the feel and feedback that you get when hitting the ball and i play my best game with this frame.

proud member of the red star club :)

Any specs available for the Silver Star and the Silver Star Tour?

Been hard finding info on them as they seem to be the "forgotten" member of the Kneissl racquet family... :(

TW let me have a kneissl official one as well. nothing sinister going on!

with Snauwaert back in the game...we need Kneissl back as well..is it nostalgia? or a recognition of the quality of frames of the past...add Rossignol to the mix and we're all set! seriously, with Head's shift to 'modern feel' and Fischer's departure, Austria's tennis market and the tennis world needs Kneissl back
