messi should win. rather than iniesta who will win. sorry!
bryant...seriously, wtf? sure he's the mvp but he had way better seasons.
vettel could win but dear god I hope not.
nadal deserved to win one more.
pacquiao I've never heard of and I follow closely to many kinds of sports all over the world...and btw, those kind of sports (also like f1 and golf) shouldn't even be in the competition anymore.

edit:
female: lindsey vonn or kim clijsters
team: spain of course, underdog inter. football either way
breakthrough: I hate the golf ***s, therefore lemaitre.
comeback: hard to say but NOT henin. kluft or rossi?
disability & action sport: no idea.
Unlikely. Tennis is not very popular and for the first time in quite a while there are TWO strong football representatives.
Messi is huge and he is the face of Barca, Barca being one of the most, if not the most popular team in football, the most popular sport on the planet.
Iniesta is a key component of the same Barca team and struck the goal which decided who were the new world champs in South Africa.
Pacquaio is a top boxer loved throughout the world who has way more pull than Nadal.
Federer won in the four years that he WAS tennis(though personally I would have put Phelps above Fed in 2008 and Fed above Schumi in 2004). For people that followed tennis in that period a Federer loss was SHOCKING and tourney wins were routine. The guy lost just 24 matches in four seasons of tennis(04-07), that's basically six per season. Fed went up against some greats in those years but none of them were the FACE of their sport. To this day most people can't name anyone other than Fed(and more recently Nadal) when it comes to tennis.

Well he dominated his sport more than any other athlete, but sentimental favorite Spain Futbol Team will probably win.
As always, the excuses are ready...
perhaps a stupid statement, who knows. I just dislike boxing and seeing people banging the heads. of course it is tough and of course it needs a lot but I just don't care. beating someone up is not what I call a sport.
(ali at the 96 olympic games might have killed it forever for me and million dollar baby is about the worst film I've ever seen personally and I really do regret that I watched it)
Football and people who do well in the olympics(in the year when there are are olympics) have the most pull in these kinds of awards(not necessarily laureus). It's common knowledge.
He's not competing against the football team.
There are 2 separate categories - "Sportsman of the year" and "Team of the year".

2008 was an Olympic year. Federer won it
Maybe you just dont understand what boxing is about?. Its a sport for men with great pride and big b....!, true warriors!. Ever heard these famous words: No guts, no glory!. Pain is temporary, pride is forever!. Theres no room for a bad day at the office, you have to be in top shape for every fight because sometimes your carreer will be destroyed from a single loss!. In tennis thers another tournament nex week, in football theres another game next weekend but in boxing you never know if this fight will be your last..perhaps a stupid statement, who knows. He won it for 2007.
In 2008 and 2009 Bolt won.

Oh and by the way Ali retired long before the 96 olympics.

yeah it just shows that the guy knows his boxingali, 96 olymics... are you really getting into a debate with someone who thinks ali competed in the 96 olympics??
You really are clueless!nah...no, not really, I don't care about that. that counts on the streets in your local gangster-village or mafia-movie but not in what I considers sports.
and seriously, how about thinking before lecturing me? tip: ali had kind of an important role there.

this sounds more like a statement of a freedom fighter, not a sportsmen. No guts, no glory!. Pain is temporary, pride is forever!
ok, so here for you: I was shocked how someone at the age of 54 did look like because he did everything for his sport, even sacrified his body.
and don't come with this espn list, this is about the weirdest most arbitrary thing. I don't say boxing isn't tough or hard or intense. this is all true.
one might say this is wrong because usually there's nothing to damage in a footballers headyou do know that brain damage is more common in football than boxing right?
People expect Rafa to win. Let's hope they're right

If Rafa wins against freaking Messi(who is by far the best footballer on the planet) and Iniesta(great season with Barca, scored goal that clinched World Cup), it will be quite the feat IMO.

Rafa won.
And the Spanish football team won too.
My guess: Hell no.
My guess: Hell no.
WHAT A WIN FROM GIANT NADAL!
HE BIT IT EASILY!
Thanks for being a hatter, please make a fool of yourself again LOL
There will be a day he breaks his teeth biting on a trophy!
vamos ralph!
If there was a biggest lyer/cheater/excuse maker Ralph would win that easily.
