Bizarrely, Novak did the exact same thing when they met a few weeks later at the US Open. Sometimes their rivalry just feels scripted. Too many weird coinkydinks.

Andy repeated a back to back defeat of Rafa, ranked #1 and Roger, ranked #3 to win Toronto, 3 years later. He couldn't manage to include #2 as he had already been taken care of by Roger in the semis. His name? The hero of 2007 of course.
