Former World No. 7 Mardy Fish has announced that he plans to return to the ATP World Tour at the BNP Paribas Open, which starts on 9 March.

Fish, who confirmed the news of his Indian Wells participation on his Twitter account, has not played competitively since the Winston-Salem Open in August 2013.

The 33-year-old American will team up with Mark Knowles at an ATP Challenger Tour event in Dallas next week, ahead of competing at the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of 2015.

Fish underwent a cardiac catheter ablation procedure in June 2014 to deal with misfiring electrical pulses in his heart.

He rose to a career-high No. 7 in the Emirates ATP Rankings on 15 August 2011 and has won six ATP World Tour singles titles.

Nice to see him back. I think coming back at this level at his age will be very difficult. Not expecting much.

I second this. On the plus side, he's just played above 500 ATP-matches, so his mileage shouldn't be that much and he can rely on his serve quite a bit.

Should be able to make it back to top-50 or better, if he regains his fitness to a reasonable degree.

Not a chance of top 50 I'm sorry to say.

Not agree. Definite top 50 if he can stay healthy. but Can he stay healthy ????????
ATP tour seem to be very very tough on the body and if you are fragile, you just can't stay healthy for very long.............

Glad to hear he's going to give it another try.

Curious to see if he'll be using the same frame, or if he'll grab something newer. He essentially used the same frame as Del Potro (PS Classic, 18x20).

It's nice to see Mardy Fish back on the ATP.

I'm still heavily concerned about his heart condition. I'm hoping he managed to fix that issue.

he's no stranger to comebacks, being one of the lowest-ranked tournament winners: in 2006 he won houston after dropping down to #341 several weeks before (he already reached the top20 in 2003-2004, before reaching the top10 in 2011).

it's probably gonna be more difficult this time... but good luck !

I am thinking he is doing this just to get a farewell at this years USO.

Remember he could not do that last year because he had not taken the drug test ?

I thought he had heart issues. Why does he want to come back to play tennis? Health is more important than playing tennis. I wish him luck though. Maybe he must need the $$. However, He's 33 years old.. What does he have to gain to come back at his advanced age? Perhaps he just enjoys the game and competition. I don't get it but wish him well.
