American teens Caty McNally and Cori Gauff are both in qualifying in Linz this week. See if they end up building on their early successes from earlier this year.

Both are also going to qually into Luxembourg next week. Two tournaments can help one or both lock in AO main draw positions. On the cusp in the 100-110 ranking zone.

A tad disappointed that neither of them qualified for the main draw. I'm not a fan of the way media/social media contribute to what I'd say is over-hype in this day and age. I have no doubt both will have successful careers but this result in qualifying is a reality check I'd say.

It’s been a whirlwind year for 15-year-old Cori “Coco” Gauff, but apparently, it’s not over yet.

The young American had lost in the second round of qualifying in Linz against Tamara Korpatsch, 6-4, 6-2, before an opportunity came knocking on Tuesday, surprising the tennis world yet again.

15 minutes prior to her first-round match, Maria Sakkari withdrew from the event with a right wrist injury. Gauff emerged as the lucky loser and dismissed Swiss qualifier Stefanie Voegele, 6-3, 7-6 (3) to move into the second round.

On Wednesday, Gauff continued her lucky run in Linz when she fought past Ukrainian Kateryna Kozlova. Having rallied from a set and a break down to force a final set, the American teen was up a break in the decider when Kozlova was forced to retire due to a left lower leg injury. With a 4-6, 6-4, 2-0 win, Gauff advanced to the final eight.

Instead of packing her bags, the teenage sensation is into her maiden WTA quarterfinals in shocking fashion. Because, how else would it be?

I think the main/one of the main sponsors is Porsche, so she probably has sponsorship commitments having initially been down to play.

Gauff certainly has been hyped to the moon, let her win a GS and then we shall see.

She may play Bertens in the QF, which would be great to see as to how she matches up against such a player in a smaller WTA tournament and not a GS with wild energy from the crowd. I think we just have to remember that it's not Coco who is hyping herself up, it's the WTA and US/world media who crave interest in their sport/papers/websites etc.

very nice, glad to see she is backing up the media talk. She could be very special but it is still a few years out. Big thing will be how she reacts once players recognize her game and make adjustments. Right now her name is known due to media but game style not so much.

It seems that she will not become a big hitter based on her game rn. Solid serve for the age and move very well. But I also feel her game isn't yet mold into something.
Would be interesting to see her game shape.

American teenager Coco Gauff won her first WTA tour title by beating Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 on Sunday to lift the Linz Open trophy.

Gauff, 15, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon and third round at the US Open, bounced back after losing a one-sided second set to win the decider comfortably.

The American had earlier called Linz "my little lucky place" and its charm held for the teenager through the final despite a late wobble; after racing to a 5-0 lead in the third set, Gauff dropped two games to Ostapenko before closing out the match.

Gauff entered the tournament as a lucky loser, replacing injured sixth seed Maria Sakkari, having initially failed to make the main draw after suffering a straight-sets defeat to Germany's Tamara Korpatsch in qualifying.

Her second-round win against Kateryna Kozlova earlier in the week secured her a place in the top 100 of the women's rankings and a first WTA tour quarterfinal, from which the teenager emerged victorious after seeing off top seed and world No. 8 Kiki Bertens in straight sets.

Gauff's first tour semifinal led to her first final thanks to a win over Andrea Petkovic of Germany, again in straight sets.
