Medvedev falling from #1 to outside the Top 10

I wonder how Lacoste is feeling about recently launching the new line of Medvedev clothes with his own personal logo. Straight to the outlet stores?

I feel he's maxed his stats relevant to the modern meta - consistency, speed, defense, passing shots, etc. but beyond that he's really pretty limited - and that's why he's exposed when playing a player with a few extra tools capable of an extra gear

I think Med is a good player. That being said I think he sort of took advantage of a field that was not the greatest over the last 18 months. I dont think he really is any better than many top 10 players who couldn't break through in the last decade because Fed, Rafa, and Novak were just swooping in. I think a dude liker Ferrer, or Berdych or so many or those guys behind the big guns 8 years ago would have given him all the game he could handle. He's good, not great.

Gee wiz, RAFA seriously murdered his career last year :X3::

This guy became #1 is big shame. Even bigger shame is Djoko lost most important slam final of his career to this guy in straights - no less.

Although not all of them (Canadian Open and Cincinnati finals were always best of 3, for example), and some of the best of 5 finals would be changed to best of 3 if there was a weather problem (like 2003 Monte Carlo, Ferrero vs. Coria).

They had the last best of 5 masters final at 2007 Miami, Djokovic beating Canas in 3 straight sets for his first masters title. The last best of 5 YEC final later that year with Federer beating Ferrer in 3 straight sets.

Yep. I saw Djokovic vs Canas when it was live.

Very good match even despite the one sided scoreline.

I really enjoyed the 2005 Rome final between Coria and Nadal and also the Rome Final between Nadal and Federer.

Both of those matches were best of 5. The quality level in both of those matches was incredible!

I wish that Coria had managed to keep things together for a few more years. I would have loved to have seen some more battles between him and Nadal.

The early ones were just legendary.

I guess what Mustard is trying to say is that, while Ukrainian players naturally attract sympathy and support, innocent Russian players who don't support their government's warlike behaviour (like Rublev and probably Medvedev) are still made to suffer because of it eg. bans from Wimbledon, lack of crowd support etc. It must be really hard for them and I think it has affected them mentally especially Medvedev.

Could they just make a statement so they can be leaders on this??

to be effective against Med: serve wide and come in to put away the easy volley
I'm officially starting the rumor that, to counter this tactical development by the opposition, during the upcoming clay season Meddybear will take time away from the tour to work with Hsieh Su-wei on mastering the *lob return* 8-B.

You read it here first ...

He needs to go back to the drawing board. His game hasn't progressed in any way since he won his slam 18 months ago and players have figured out how to best combat his RoS position. His net and forecourt game are basically still the same : average.

If anything, he's regressed in that he's become more passive and become even more of a grinder since the USO in 2021. At this level, you can't just rely on being a human backboard with the aim of drawing errors and exhausting your opponents to win big titles. He's good at it, but slam winners take their game to the opponent.

Even when he was tearing it up in 2021, he was still being reasonably aggressive when he got attackable balls and hit plenty of winners.

Until he evolves as a player, he probably won't win any more slams.

Oh, how we love the unpredictability of tennis. The twists and turns, the comebacks - that's the name of the game
Like the score in games,sets
Remember Alcaraz hype, won a masters few weeks ago ,basically ghost at main page.RG fav .Dozens if Med threads and daily Djokovic vs superfanbase fantasies

Thats not that hard to do when you ban him from 1 slam (USO)...take away 1 slam winning points (Wim)....and ban him from 4 Masters (Mont, Cincy, IW and Miami).

The fact that Djo is still close....is a testament to his greatness.
Nobody “banned” him. He chose to remain unvaxxed, so he couldn’t enter the countries where those tournaments were held. He didn’t have to overcome anything…he made his own decisions
