Nadal lost money for his last appearance in Queens the tax situation is really bad in the UK.

Nadal is only second to Federer in endorsements! He and Federer are very popular in the EU and around the world too! So I would not think that Rafa would be thinking of tournament money since that is much less then endorsements money! Nole is third or maybe second now in endorsement money since he is number one on the tour! Rafa maybe third now!

Yh Novak earned $48M this year and Nadal earned $32m. Novak has outearned Nadal by a nice margin. And deservedly so finally.

Look at it from his and his family's point of view........part of the families legacy was the park........he has always fought against any big time development in Miami-Dade (the Matheson family is one of the founding families that helped build Miami).

He's trying to prevent the loss of more parkland for what......a two week event that he feels Miami doesn't really need......I personally think he is wrong but understand what he is trying todo.
I also understand where he is coming from. But he comes off as salty and unlikable

I doubt anyone in the community really cares if the tourney moves. That and the city just got screwed into giving the baseball team a new stadium only for him to line his pockets and put out a bad team year after year.

Yeah and combined with Canada, that makes 4 Master 1000 Series for North America. That seems like quite a bit. When you consider there's 4 in Europe and 1 in Asia.

That's where the money and history is when it comes to tennis! I mused several years ago about a grass Masters somewhere, but so much would have to happen; one of the existing events may be failing and some Millionaire like the one who owns IW comes along with a stadium and nice chunk of change! ;-)

Dominic Thiem doesn't approuve.
Just move those couple of European clay tournaments from July into the current time slot of Miami Masters. That way the clay season would be continuous. We should get rid of these ATP tour 2nd tier tournament slots anyway. No top players go play clay tennis during that time of the year, so these kinds of tournaments should NOT be anything more but Challenger or Futures tournaments.

If Miami lose the status, does a new master have to take a 2 week slot? coz if a new master play in 1 week, that will leave IW as the only master that play 2 week with largest draw compare with others.

I think it should be Atlanta!

If done during Spring break, I think Atlanta would sell more tickets than Miami.

1) Atlanta has Delta Airlines as it's home at Hartsfield. So many cities have connecting flights through Atlanta.

It would continue to be the Masters of the Southern United States (Indian Wells is West Coast, Cincinnati Mid West, and of course the US Open represents the Northeast)

Decided to head down to Miami to watch it for the last time. Last time I was down there was 2008, when a certain Roddick managed to defy the odds...

Stearns maintains that agreement is no longer valid because the county has failed to provide an updated home for the yearly event.

Does the agreement say the county must update the venue? If so, the county officials were stupid.

In its brief to the Third DCA, Miami-Dade wrote that the tournament “abandoned” the process of trying to amend the master plan “in favor of this wasteful and unmeritorious litigation.”

Well, that confirms that IMG wants to leave.

How about Texas?
Outdoors in April might work there, but what venue in which city? Houston hosted the Masters outdoors in a part of the calendar that wasn't ideal weather. I'm not sure if "The Furniture King" behind that experience is even active in tennis anymore.

Miami used to be one of my favourite events to watch in the 1990s and early 2000s. But since around 2006 the tournament seems to have become less and less interesting, the finals have been incredibly dull. The South Americans did well for a while which added a great atmosphere, and the 2000 final between Sampras and Kuerten is one of the all time great Masters finals.

Move it to my back garden. That has grass. I can't afford any prize money, but there will be bacon sandwiches.
This works well with your avatar.

Also makes it look like an innuendo, what with inviting a whole bunch of men into your back garden, and having bacon sandwiches...

I think it lost it's luster when they went Bof3; always thought of as an unofficial 5th major! It hasn't lived up to that billing since the days of Steffi/Seles and Sampras/Agassi! IIRC Nadal hasn't won it, while Nole owns it now! This should be one of the hardest tourneys to win; "and defend!" Too many multi-winners IMO! In the old days it just didn't happen much on either tour! I hark back to "The Lipton Int'l!" ;-)

Grass courts masters thing can only make sense if it would be before Wimbledon. If Miami would be a grass court master in different country it shouldnt be before CLAY SEASON starts.
