Nope, Roger did not benefit anything.
Before Roger even Agassi was heavily marketable in 90s and even in early 00s was big in endorsements.
Roger then took things to the next level but Novak/Rafa could not get that marketable

Reverse the situation by putting DJokodal in Fed's gen and he behind them, we would have witnessed a lull period in endorsements in the 00s and then Roger arriving in late 00s, starting to dominate and then completely rule the 2010s

^ Proof to this is that Roger made around 650M $ of his 1B+ $ in the 2010s, so the period of 2010s was more fruitful for tennis players as the money minted was more, but Novak the reigning champ was not be marketable enough, someone winning always has an edge and yet this was the case, so you if you put Roger in this period you would have found Roger make 1 Billion in 2010s decade itself or maybe still close to 700-800+ in money, he would always be the most popular anyway, there is no beating him there.

It was very hard to watch tennis in North America (and I am guessing other countries too) other than Wimbledon and USO prior to the specialty cable and internet streaming era. There just wasn't nearly as much money in it prior to the Federer period (which coincided with the arrival of specialty cable and later internet streaming). People played a lot more tennis in the 90s and before, but watched a lot more of it since.

Evidence: Djokovic, despite being relatively unpopular, still has way more inflation adjusted earnings than Borg, who was the most popular player in the most popular era of tennis. Why? There's just a lot more money in the game now. Fans spend way more, especially the upper class and upper middle class elites that comprise the fan base.

Spanish speaking population - 460 million
Serbian speaking population - 12 million

Novak has more than twice the number of fans than there is actual Serbian speaking population .

Nadal has 11 times less number of fans than there is actual spanish speaking population .

Wow .
Djokovic makes a big deal about being into Indian customs amd religion no doubt to get support in India a country of 1 billion people. Apart from serbians a quick look at those social.media outlets shows the vast majority of Djokovic fans are indian.
so by your logic Djokovic is less popular than Wawrinka

literally on the cusp of ending all debates forever and the guy managed to lose to Z and Medvedev in succession. Rough one bro but I’m here for you
It is ironic seeing Djokovic fans trying to cope with Djokovic remaining in 3rd place of this era (by Djokovics own admission given his Olympic 2024 comments) by taking solace in Djokovic making his h2h v a one footed 35 year old Nadal at RG to 2-7 and still being 2 titles behind Federer at Wimbledon and celebrating beating a 39 year old Federer to still be trailing while at the same time trying to airbrush out of reality Djokovic being thrashed by Mededev with cramp when they were saying Djokovic would seal Goat debate in 2021. The disappointment for those people seems to be getting more acute.

You are right about the 90s but I feel same disadvantage applies to Roger of 2000s as well if we compared to the 2010s

Roger himself made 650 Million of his 1 Billion in the 2010s, so that means maximum money has come in 2010s, so the reigning champion of the 2011-2021 period Novak (who won 19 slams) should have made the most money in this period but he is not marketable, even Naomi Osaka of all people makes more money this year than Novak who won 3 years and was going for a CYGS, that is the state of affairs

So I feel Novak & Mr Nadal are not even in Fed's league in terms of marketability, they might even be below Agassi or Borg in terms of cult status/marketability...

In 2021, there were around 1.35 billion people worldwide who spoke English, which is Fed's mother language.

Fed has 34 times less number of fans than there is actual English speaking population.

As you said, Rafa has 11 times less number of fans than there is actual spanish speaking population .

Spain has 47 million people compared to only 6 million from Serbia and 8 from Switzerland

judging by this Nadal should actually lead by more than he does
Fed holds dual citizenship: Swiss & South African. There are over 60 million people in South Africa. Fed has the largest number of co-citizens compared to Rafa and Djoko.

Federer's language is swiss-german .
Fed's daughter's speak slovakian with Mirka . .

Fed is not from Great Britian . He isn't English . He just converses in English whenever required just like the rest of us .
He doesn't belong to the ethnicity of Great Britain /english Nation .

Most English readers are in india .
By your logic , Indians should be the biggest fans of David beckham or Andy Murray (Scottish but he represents Great Britian ) . But that is not the case :D

Swiss-german, Spanish ,Serbian are the languages / ethnic languages of Fed,Rafa , Novak !

Kids, who I think are more inclined to follow tennis players on social media, etc, love Nadal the most, imo and from my experience talking to young tennis fans. I don't know why. He is my favorite but I imagine for different reasons- I cheered him to usurp Federer. Maybe for young people it was the shorts? The muscles? The kit?

You are wrong. Fed's mother language is English. His mother is South African and has spoken English with him since he was a baby.
Fed's kids also speak English (according to Fed, they understands 3 languages: English, Swiss-German, Slovak).

Fed's mother is South African . She speaks English . Whites in the country South africa speaks English .
And English definately is Global language , maximum readers of English language are in India . Are Indians English by ancestry ?? Nope .

Fed has always associated himself with Swiss-german ethnicity/nationality . He plays for Switzerland and not Great Britian .

You are ignoring facts. Facts are:
- Since Federer’s mother is South African, he holds both Swiss and South African citizenship.
- English is an official language in South Africa.

So, if money makes Federer goat, and popularity makes Nadal goat, where does that leave Djokovic?

You’re shortchanging Fed. He was worth almost 1 billion dollars before the On shoe IPO drop in September. He’s conservatively worth 4 billion now and that will go far higher as the show stock rises.

I hope forbes announces the official figures soon

Federer needs to announce a plan to donate his immense wealth to be a GOAT in my eyes.

Otherwise he will simply become another out of touch billionaire and lose the magic surrounding him to the deadly sin of greed.

Introverts like Rafa or Guys like Novak who are seen as a divisive force by Fans could not have become any sorts of Global Icons in the 2000s if the gens were swapped.

Roger was just too dominant + charming + classy + elegant to become a global icon .... he did not grunt like an animal while playing .... these things matter

Disliking player is fine but this is taking it to another level bruhh .
Divisive forces ?? :-D

By divisive term you mean , begging for " unity between masters and labourers" :D

Forming PTPA is divisive ? Because Rafa thinks it that way via his tweets ?
Fed later said in an interview that Novak is a wellwisher of lower ranked players .

All he asked for is better payment to lower ranked players and giving the players representation in decision making process in the tennis association as a whole .

Novak can be divisive only for the establishmemt and beneficiaries of the establishment and the Media that they control .
Novak simply asked that players shouldnt be treated as labourers by Master ( ATP ) and that players must have a say in decision making process too .

It is the stupidity of certain masses to believe the lies of Establishment & media which potrays someone as " divisive " ,who actually tries and stands up for the marginalised or un-privileged .

Such comments only shows that , people are fine with Establishment promoting stars who are loyal to the establishment and not to tennis fraternity .
To hell with such global popularity then .

Sachin was sold as National icon and Global icon for 20 years , but noone gives a F about him now ..
He is named in every Tax frauds that comes to light .
Even the pandora leaks mentions Sachin's name which Indian media is trying hard to hide.
Indian establishment working round the clock to hide the name of their BharatRatna .
What is the use of such Icons ? :-D

Roger Federer is worth 1 BILLION+ $ >>> ( Djokovic's 388 MILLION $ + Nadal's 411 MILLION $ ) 8-B

Beating Roger in tennis stats (like Slams, Weeks at 1, YE1s) is only the first part of the challenge , the real challenge would be to surpass his brand-value and popularity to become a bigger icon......! :sneaky:

Unless this hurdle is passed, nobody can surpass him as the GOAT because GOAThood in reality is a popularity contest among the best ATGs who can raise a stake on that claim
Well played (y)

Yes, we had deliberatestranger, Nadalalot, nadalrecords and so on...many stupid Nadal fan. :happydevil:
I've probably disliked more Nadal fans than I have any other fan base, because I don't like seeing Nadal fans criticize or doubt Nadal :happydevil:
So many of them have written Nadal off whenever there was an injury, or blame him for scheduling an event when they think he shouldn't have.
Whereas its expected that non-Nadal fans criticize or underrate him, so not a big deal when they do.
