What downward spiral? Have you not been watching Nadal the past 6 months? He has played like crap. Nadal won 3 slams in 2010 so 2011 has been a disappointing year for him compared to last year's standard. Djokovic has cleaned his clock in 6 big finals this year. Did Djokovic or anybody else do that in 2010?

Apart from the Djokovic problem, Nadal's match results haven't really changed much compared to 2010, although I do think Nadal's serve and backhand are clearly worse than previously and he does look a step slower at times. I think it's totally wrong to say that Nadal has "played like crap" if we're talking about 2011 as a whole. He's the clear world number 2.

Well, he is not the "clear No.2" right now. It must be Andy Murray.

When I say he is playing like crap, I mean in comparison to previous years. To me he looks "off" with his serve, ROS, and his groundstrokes. He also appears to be slower for sure. He can still be the clear number 2 in the world and not be in the form he was previously. Federer was able to stay in the top 2 in the world even though his form had declined from 2008 on. Nadal is still able to defeat most of the guys in the ATP even with his less than stellar form lately but to me he has definitely been "off." Whether it is temporary or not, we shall see.

I mean as of right now. I know that Nadal had a better year, but this last part of the season, Murray has played like a GOAT.

Murray has been playing well lately but all of that does not matter. The only thing that matters for Murray at this point is for him to win slams. He can be great at winning every Masters 1000 tournament out there, but if he cannot move on to win a slam he is not GREAT in the same sense that a multiple slam winner is. Time for Andy to put up or shut up.

I think Murray will beat Nadal in the slams next year. But I am not sure whether he can beat Djoko (or Fed) in the final..

I think so too. That Tokyo final was a sign of things to come, imo. I also think Andy will take the #2 spot from Nadal next year as well. Probably some time in the spring/early summer.
