Nagreanu wants rematch after losing to Nadal

The world's number one poker player -- who humiliated himself by losing to Rafael Nadal in a live charity poker tourney -- is crying beginner's luck ... and now he wants a rematch ASAP, TMZ Sports has learned.

We spoke with Daniel Nagreanu ... who says he's still in shock that the world's top ranked tennis player publicly whooped his *** in Prague last week ... but he tells us, it was fate (and not skill) that lost him the game.

Nagreanu says "he got 2 lucky hands" ... and "that’s the only reason why he beat me."

For the record -- Rafa had only been playing poker online for 18 months before the tournament ... and it was his first time playing in front of a crowd.

As for a rematch ... nothing's been officially set, but Daniel told us "I’m down and ready to go for a rematch! I’d win this time. Obviously. I’m suppose to win every time"

No reaction yet from Nadal ... he's probably too busy dominating whatever else he's doing.

I know being a 'professional' at a card game isn't really an occupation to be proud of, but gambling has been around for thousands of years. It is not going to go away anytime soon..

Yes because TMZ never takes things out of context or blows things out of proportion.

Writing for TMZ is probably half of TT posters' dream job.

I didn't even read the article. The guys at TMZ have absolutely no journalism skills; and is one of the worst media organizations out there (including Yahoo, FOX News, MSNBC, CNN, etc).

"Professional" poker players are a joke. They just aren't used to the insane level of discipline, concentration, and psychological intimidation a champion athlete like Nadal brings to the table. I say let the guy humiliate himself against Nadal again.

Also, since they played cards last time, it seems only fair to play tennis for the rematch.

So now Nadal is going to rack up a H2H with the #1 poker player ! This just proves that H2H is nonsense :)
Or that Nadal is just a H2H GOAT, nothing more :)

LOL! Vamos!

You can't be considered to be one dimensional, if you are crossing over into multiple disciplines and destroying the competition. Good for Nadal! :)

I wouldn't mind going toe to toe with Rafa myself. He will destroy me on the tennis court, no doubt about it, but unlike the world poker champion, I would never let Nadal beat me in a back double bicep pose on a bodybuilding stage. Just sayin. ;)

Nadal could be the greatest bodybuilder in world history if he trained to be a bodybuilder (not that he would, Nadal has no interest in professional bodybuilding as far as I know), in which case, Nadal would beat you.

haha! Always enjoy your posts! :)

Maybe arm wrestling is the way to go, it's a neutral discipline.

Maybe Rafa had been distracting him with his elaborate array of rituals before playing his hand (arrangement of water bottles, touching body parts, taking too long to declare etc.) or maybe he was taking too many medical time-outs?

Or maybe it was the blatant tableside coaching from Uncle Toni?

Ahaa... Looks like pokerstars is sponsoring both of them.. publicity stunt????

Bingo! Thanks.

I have to say once more, I find it quite disturbing that one tennis star is sponsored by someone shady like "pokerstars" and is openly promoting and endorsing gambling.
The ATP and ITF should do something against this. This hurt the credibility and reputation of tennis. One of the top stars should not be associated with poker and organized gambling.

Djokovic is the real #1. The ITF World Champion for 2013.

The ITF hurt its own credibility when ITF awarded its loser!
Djoko was defeated three times (of 4 possible) at the ITF events.
So, Djoko is the real loser - the ITF World Loser for 2013!

Did Nagreanu complain about mono or back pain?
mebbe he choked on a cigar, or burnt his fingers lighting up. :) poor chap, gotta feel for him. Rafa using his superhuman mental strength developed after years of losing to Federer to beat superior players !

Poker requires lot of intelligence. Some of the brightest mathematicians and computer scientists are into poker.

It supports what I have always known: Rafa is not just brawn but also a whole lot of brain.

Truly an amazing person.

No they're not banned from casinos... There are a lot of professionals that aren't even well known.

Also, calling Negreanu the number 1 player is pretty hilarious. He's maybe top 10 for tournament players if you can rank them I guess, but in regards to cash games he's probably not even top 100 in the world.

Also sureshs, they basically played a sit n go. It's a faster paced tournament structure that's higher variance than a say a tournament with deep stacks and slow levels. Any donk can win a sit n go or even a big money tournament if they get lucky and get good spots.

Yeah that is what they were saying about Nadal when he first started beating Federer

IMO, poker isn't gambling, it's a skilled game. I don't think it's a "sport", but it's definitely up there with chess.

I play poker regularly, and in every single game I play, there's always "regulars" that make profits every single time they play. They never lose. They're just really, really good.

If it was truly gambling (i.e., like roulette, craps or anything based on pure luck) then there wouldn't be people out there that win every time and make a living by doing it.

Everyone knows you can't make a living out of craps or roulette. The house always has a slight advantage, meaning you will eventually lose over time. But with poker, you can have a sizable advantage over your opponents and win over the long haul.

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!!

Sorry but this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard on this board and it does say much. Have you ever played chess? Do you know what is takes?

The chess is an intellectual game and requires lots of skill. Poker is a joke.

I would like to see Nadal beating Magnus Carlsen or Viswanathan Anand in chess. LOL.
