As a Clemson fan, I think we match up better with OSU but both they and LSU are outstanding teams. It’s hard to go undefeated.

As a side note, I think Nate Stanley might end up being the best pro quarterback out of this draft. True, he can’t hit the broadside of a barn for Iowa, but he has a great arm and is built like Rothlesberger. I’m betting a team takes a chance on him and teaches him the position.

Is it possible to have a program like OSU, LSU, or Alabama without under-the-table payments to the players? I've heard so many stories from former college players, and about USC under Pete Carroll. Ninety percent of OSU's second-string players could start for Cal.

Happens everywhere. Some are just better and care more about it. You mention Cal. I’ve become a familiar fan by marriage, as my wife and her entire family are alumns. They’re great in the ancillary sports but stink in the revenue sports (football and basketball). Do they recruit smarter but less athletic athletes? Nope. They’re graduation rates are near the worst in the nation, going back to 2003.

Can’t blame it on academics, as Stanford excels in the class and on the field. Same goes for comparable schools like Duke, UVA, Notre Dame, UCLA, Michigan, etc.. Other programs just care more and put money and resources into it. I played at Va Tech in the early to mid 90s and our facilities were much nicer than Cal’s today. Oregon and USC blow them away.

Cal is like the LA Chargers of college football. I’ve been to home games against USC, Oregon and Washington and every game was minimum 50% opposing fans. When they played Tennessee in 2007, a co-worker and UT alumn said Memorial Stadium was 60-65% Vols fans. Cal won that game, if memory serves.

That’s right here in Orlando’s Citrus Bowl at Camping World Stadium on New Year’s Day. We also get Notre Dame vs Iowa State as a warmup on Playoff Saturday.

Your perception regarding Cal fans being outnumbered seems to be distorted by beer and bias clouding your mind. Attendance can be low in lean years, but Cal fans always greatly outnumber opponent fans.

I was at the Tennessee game and Cal fans dominated the Tennessee fans in every respect. Your co-worker may have been confused because he was sitting in the section reserved for Tennessee fans.

I agree completely and honestly, outside of USC football and UCLA basketball, the entire state isn't big on the money sports like many parts of the country. I LOVE college football and basketball, far more than pro sports and that's one of the biggest things I miss living in California.

The UC's have never been big on paying the big $$ to attract coaches or build cathedral-like stadiums and that's probably a good thing. Oregon is probably the closest to a big SEC/Big 10/ACC atmosphere on the west coast. It's going to be interesting to see how paying college athletes impacts the old ways.

LSU vs Oklahoma may be closer than originally projected...Jalen Hurts’ experience in that building will help OU and CEH’s sore hamstring may take away from the LSU attack.

The Clemson vs Ohio State follows and that’s a hard one to call. Big Game Lawrence hasn’t seen a defense like OSU this year but the Buckeye defense hasn’t played as strong a QB/RB tandem as Lawrence/Etienne except in practice.

I thought those were two key plays as well. The irony of the first one is that my brother-in-law and I always joke that you never see Tanner Muse from the front because he is always chasing someone from behind.

The 2nd play, the NCAA rules are ambiguous:

"Secures control of a live ball in flight before the ball touches the ground, and touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc."

The only interpretation I'm guessing was made was that he did not ward off the opponent? Live I thought it was incomplete. In slow motion it looked like a catch. They use slow motion to determine if a foot was in bounds so I'm not sure why they wouldn't use that in this case as well. I thought all the other calls that went against OSU were correct including the dropped pass in the end zone, targeting of Trevor and the roughing the kicker call.

Agree with u on the calls. The pass fumble call was tight but I also think he didn’t maintain control. The targeting call was obvious for me. All credit to Clemson because a lot of teams get spooked and pack it in after a start like that. Trevor Law is cool as a cucumber.

Having said that, the beating I watched LSU dish out has me worried for anyone playing them...
