New Alpha Starting Clamp

New Toy of the month:

I've been using the new Alpha Starting clamp for over a month now. It looks similar to the original Alpha clamp with two exceptions. First, the jaw is 27mm wide where the original is 20mm. Secondly the spring force feels about 20% stronger than the original.

With this new clamp there's no need to bury the string next to the clamp hinge. The stronger clamp force means you need only place the string half way down the clamp jaws to get a solid, non-slip hold.

If you're in the market for a new starting clamp you need to check this one out.

I recently recieved this clamp as well and was actually going to start a thread too so thanks for beating me to it. I included a link to some pics for people to see. This is the clamp that is now offered at TW, you can see the alpha logo on the pic on the tw page. Def a nice clamp, strong springs and I like the larger clamping area. I used it several times and each time i put the string in the first 1/3 of the clamp, not even close to the center or by the hinge like you had to the with other starting clamps.

So is it about the width of the Babolats

Yes, the new Alpha clamp has a similar width to the newer blue Babolat clamps. The difference is the newer Babolat clamp has a built in gap at the hinge point to minimize string crush.
