New Generation finally getting glory, but is it fair to those who came before?

One thing that has been bothering about their success is that those who came before them had it a lot tougher, this is nothing personal against any of them though

1.Rome masters: let us go one by one for this one.Coria was brilliant on clay still didn't win it 2005 after reaching the final.Federer in 2006 played better clay court tennis than anyone in history except maybe 5 people,he didn't win it.Davydenko tried hard in 2007,he did not win it.Djokovic was at the same age in 2008 and he was twice the clay courter than any Today. He may have won it in 2008 but in 2009 fell to Rafa.David Ferrer was twice as consistent as any Today and a better clay courter but he did not win it.Murray played a better match in Rome 2011 SF than Zverev and co ever have but he did not win it.2 012 Djokovic got mauled by Rafa and Federer in 2013,a better player at Rome than any now got annihilated.
The point being from 2009 to 2016 Each of the finalists were from the big four (except 2010)And every time one of them was lording over the clay season. Then in comes Zverev in 2017 and wins it against a lowest of lows Djokovic.

2.Canadian Masters: Around their age Djokovic had to go through Federer,Nadal and Roddick to win it.Recently, Tsonga,a second tier player, had to beat Djokovic,Murray,Dimitrov,Federer.Heck, after being stronga in 2009 QF beating Fed,he still couldn't win it then.
Murray, around this age fell to peak Nadal in 2008 and had to go through Federer in 2010 and Delpo, who would later win US,in 2009 to win it.Nishikori fell to Djokovic near his best in 2016.Then Zverev ends up winning it against a man without a back.

WTF: Davydenko had to beat Prime Federer,GS Champion Delpo and others to win this.Nalby had to go through peak Federer.Murray didn't win it even after beating Federer in 2008 and had to beat Djokovic under high pressure in 2016.Nadal has been to finals and semifinals multiple times and was clobbered by Fedovic who probably have 2 of the highest peaks ever indoors. Then comesDimitrov and wins it against Goffin of all people.

Nothing against them but in light of recent years and other tier two player who had to deal with the big four their achievements do appear hollow to me.

Murray & Djoko are only about 11.5 months younger than Rafa. Delpo is 16 months younger than Murray.

Zverev winning elusive master titles that Fraud (Rome) and RAFA (Miami) didn't win.
Diva winning elusive titles that Novack (the real slam) and RAFA (YEC).
So be it.

I will say this though, good on Next Gen and Lost Gen for taking advantage , but I do think it's more about what the big 4 aren't doing than it is what the young guns are doing and that is disappointing . Tennis is used to seeing new generations push older ones out the door .

It is pretty annoying.

If 2017 Zverev had played the Rome 2006 final against either Nadal or Fed, he'd have lost 2-6 2-6 1-6 to either of them.

Just wait until he or Raonic or someone win Wimbledon under similar circumstances. It's going to happen.

It is not that I am not happy that they are winning but I would be happier if they were playing exceptionally while doing it,and actually backing it up in next tournaments.

Let's just take the big 3 out of the picture they are outliers, let us talk about Murray,Delpo e.t.c.At their age and even younger than them Murray was beating world no 1 in slams sf and master finals. He defeated Nadal Djokovic and Federer to win his masters in 2008 and 2009.And later lost so many titles from slams to masters because of the big three. There is no doubt that some of these guys are going to end up with greater or comparable slam count and masters haul.

People say Federer and Nadal Djokovic took advantage of weak fields however even in such tournaments they played near unbeatable level. If somebody wins say Rome without being near to what Davydenko was in 2007 SF or Ferrer in 2010 clay swing or even Stan in 2008 it will bother me a little.

Nothing is fair in life. You go after and take what's rightfully yours. Nothing is given on silver platter. Simple as that.

It would be pretty annoying seeing some NextGen or LostGen boy winning the AO in the next years against a Weak Field while Murray played amazing tennis and was stopped by Fedovic from 2010-2016 and when he finally beat one of them he got stopped by the next one

Well, in light of Zverev's recent slump, I won't criticize him if he wins Miami if it represents the springboard for another successful season in 2018. Zverev needs this win to gain confidence after being sub par since winning Montreal.

Plus, if he beats Isner playing at this level, it won't be a bad win.
