Nick K. does he have adhd? How many tennis players have adhd?

He acts like he does have it. Or as someone who takes stimulants. No filter, no watching words. How many tennis players have documented adhd?

If you think Nicks behaviour is due to ADHD then you have no idea what ADHD is.
Exactly. My profession deals with this condition and training people to recognize, diagnose and manage it in others. Nick doesn't have it. And for the OP: watch tapes of McEnroe or Connors, whose behavior was worse than Nick's by far. Neither of them had ADHD either.

Hasn't it occurred to you that Nicks behavior is intentional in order to get attention and media spotlight, which in turn, pads his coffers? That's why I think he does it, it's all calculated. Everyone here talks about him endlessly, even with few results.

I do think he has it--perhaps coupled with/aggravated by serious entitlement issues and a deeply rooted self-esteem problem.

Thanks for this comment. I agree that Nick is doing it intentionally, to achieve attention. And he is succeeding. He is the most popular tennis player outside the Big 4, because he knows his "bad boy" role is what people talk about.

NK likes the attention and how it shapes his image more into the rebel type character..

When in reality hes a spoiled, upper class brat with no street experience or ability. I grew up around some of the younger guys on tour.. they have ZERO life outside of tennis whatsoever..

If you have beaten each of Fed, Nadal, and Djokovic on the first encounter, tennis will appear boring to you. The three guys have trained and played for years and years - and then lose to him the first time they meet. If I was in his place, I would have contempt for them and their experience, which is what he has, though he cannot say it. On top of it, tennis is a boring game to play and watch. A guy like him prefers team sports with much more money and fame.

Comorbidity rates with those suffering from mental health problems is almost 1:1. In other words, if you have one thing you likely have something else as well, i.e. depression and gender dysphoria. I can assure everyone here a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD is NOT complimentary of even 30 percent of Nick's temperament and personality traits. Once again, a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD is derivative and does not complete his psychological profile.

I keep hearing this. Whats the reason? Nothing to do with his on court actions I assume?

Some, but mostly his unbelievable arrogant attitude towards just about everyone. He just walks around as if he’s better than everyone, and by better I mean in every way possible. There were rumors going back 1o-15 years about how his Spanish compatriots disliked him, even Nadal.

On court, he’s often a dick to ballkods, linesman.

That's interesting. Ive seen him away from the match court at IW at couple times, and I did observe a bit of a negative attitude, but nothing really bad. And ive been watching his matches since '07 and never saw anything that really stood out. If anything I thought Almagro's on court demeanor was much worse. Goes to show theres a lot going on the fans don't get to see I guess.

Except when some working stiff plunks down his or her hard-earned scratch only to be treated to a self-absorbed brat purposely tanking a match.

Connors for all his 'whatever' was a ferocious competitor (read: professional) of the first order. . Connors, .however irascible, .was a pro. .Kygrios is a schmoe.

There is a difference between someone with anger management issues and someone with ADHD. Nick appears to have the former rather than the later. I work with adults with Developmental Delays and Mental Illness professionally, if anything Nick may have some kind of Mood disorder....but not ADHD based purely on the behavior we have seen. Is it possible he has it and has learned to mask several of the other traits of the disorder...I guess...but I highly doubt it.

Given that involvement in sports is recommended for kids with ADHD it's likely there have been quite a few tennis players with those traits. Apparently individual sports like tennis are much better than team sports.

I guess you would have to think about players who were known to have difficulty focussing in their junior years, getting their emotions under control and preferred actual matches to practice.

I can't remember where I read it, but I did read that tennis does lend itself towards athletes having mental illnesses. Whether we're talking about anxiety, panic, depression, or other more complex personality disorders which are generally co-morbid with those primary disorders (things such as Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcisstic, Schizoprenia, etc). Tennis is a really tough sport -- mentally speaking. The constant touring. The loneliness. Never really having a solid base. All of the timezone shifts. Constant travel. The majority of people around you are there for your career success... not your mental/psychological well-being. It's a sport like no other.

This is one of the reasons why I tend to give players like Kyrgios a pass. I really feel for these people. I honestly think in more stable environments, they would be able to better manage these disorders such that their behavior would be much better.

Like Federer. He fits that profile to a T. And still suffers from that impatience on court.

Adults who have ADHD but are highly successful in their careers often have a partner who is willing to organise their lives and be totally dependable. Which doesn't sound at all like any tennis spouse we know.....

It doesn't. Nothing "socially inept" in dating a person with your same interests and lifestyle.

I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one.
I'm thinking of all the exposure these guys have to a huge variety of people, and to continually engage in such relationships, I think, speaks volumes about ones social ability.

Sortve like how the Kardashians aren't going to get married to any scientists etc...

The filter between the brain and mouth seems to be not working. You can think irrational thoughts, but smart people will know what is appropriate and what could offend plus determine if it needs to be said. Think before you speak, always not the case with slick Nick.

I have aquantances who tend to be thinking out loud most of the time and then regret they said it and often apologize. I just look at them with amazement and say whatever. I believe journalist like to get Nick to speak because he often says what's on his mind and they take advantage of his lack of scruples.

Being aware of it helps, hopefully.

It's interesting that while people diagnose Nadal with OCD all the time, everyone knows Fed as a junior was highly energetic, unfocussed, couldn't regulate his emotions and had difficulty concentrating at school yet they don't make the obvious connection. Of course you can't diagnose anyone at a distance but clearly he has a personality type that's at least heading in that direction.

Why do people think Nadal has OCD?
Cant a guy just like to stimulate his prostate before every point on international TV?

Nonononono, Fed can't have any sort of disorder, the man's perfect. You're presumably a fan, you should know better than to doubt the Maestro.

Yes Nick has ADHD:

Assholish Dickish Hyperbolic verbal diarrhea Disorder aggravated by a case of extreme Djokophobia and Nadal induced rage.

Nick is essentially a walking avatar for 70% of TT.

I think he could well have ADHD. He does look around the crowd when returning serve and the apparent lack of impulse control. I also think his creativity could be a positive symptom. I think theres no doubt he has something, bipolar disorder is the other possibility, but if I had to hazard a guess I'd say ADHD is the primary condition, as while he does seem to have mood swings, he also seems to have chronic impulse control issues whether hes in a good or bad mood.

I think a few of the tennis players could have adhd, the sport lends itself to obsessive personalities (takes endless repetitions to master skill sets) and I think theres a fairly high comorbidity of ocd with adhd.

I do. I have a kid with adhd.
I have a friend whose kid has ADHD and he was put on meds and according to her it changed his mentallity, concentration and focus. Even though his behavior changed for the better, she claims his personality and uniqueness is gone, not entirely sure what she means by this though.

Taking amphetamine typically changes a person.
